Chapter 18
"Shannon, when have you seen Shannon?' Serena asked nervously.
"At the hospital. Her girlfriend is in."
"What's happened to her girlfriend?"
"Fall down the stairs. But me and my colleagues think Shannon pushed her. But she won't admit it."
"I hope you are not wanting me to get involved."
"No, of course I'm not. I don't want you anywhere near that bitch."
"Then why are you telling me all this?"
"I just need to know if."
"If what? Bernie if what."
"If she ever hit you."
"No she didn't. I told you she never hit me. She hurt me with words instead."
"I promise I'm not going to let anyone else hurt you physically or emotionally ever again."Bernie said with tears in her eyes as she stroked Serena's face.
"You can't promise that."
"Yes I can. Please don't freak out but I have to tell you something."
"What's that?"
"I love you Serena Wendy Campbell."
"I love you too Bernie Wolfe." Serena smiled as they kissed each other passionately.
The next morning Bernie woke up and reached over to hold Serena but her side of the bed was empty. Bernie jumped out of bed and ran downstairs.
"Are you ok?" Bernie asked as she saw Serena sat at the kitchen table with her Dad.
"I'm fine darling." Serena smiled as she took a sip of her tea.
"Good." Bernie sat down beside Serena and kissed her on the cheek.
"Serena's been telling me about Shannon turning up."Raymond said as he poured Bernie a cup of tea. "I don't want that woman anywhere near my daughter."
"Dad."
"I mean it Serena. She's hurt you enough."
"I won't let her near Serena Raymond. I promise."
"Good. Is that the time I better get going."
"Where's you going?"
"I'm filling in at work aren't I."
"Oh yeah I forgot. See you later."
"Bye you two."
"See you."
"I'm sorry about my Dad."
"Don't be. You're his daughter. He's just protecting you. You're not worried about Shannon are you?"
"No I'm not. I'm really not. And do you know why?"
"Why?"
"Because I've got you. And you make me feel safe."
"You are safe,beautiful."Bernie put her arms around Serena and hugged her tightly.
"I'll make us some breakfast." Serena smiled as she kissed Bernie and went to the fridge.
"Do you fancy a full English?" Serena said as she rummaged In the fridge.
"I fancy you." Bernie smiled.
"I fancy you too gorgeous. So do you want a full English?"
"Yes please. Oh what does Dom want ."Bernie asked as her phone started ringing.
"Answer it and you'll find out." Bernie stood up and left the kitchen. About 10 minutes later she came back into the kitchen. "Is everything OK?"
"Not really, no. Come and sit down for a minute please."
"What's wrong?" Serena asked as she sat down and Bernie held her hand.
"Lucinda's Mum has come to see her. She knew straight away that Shannon had done this to Lucinda. Lucinda's Mum told her that she had the tell the police the truth so she did."
"That's good isn't it?"
"Yes but when Shannon turned up and saw the police, she ran up to the roof and now she's threatening to jump."
"What are the police gonna do about her?"
"They darent go near her incase she jumps. There is someone that she's asking to see." Bernie said as she squeezed Serena's hand.
"I hope your not going to say what I think you're going to say."
"I am. I'm sorry baby, she's asking to see you."
