Chapter 12
“It’s just for a few months…” Dong whispered. “Okay?” She pressed a kiss to Siyeon’s forehead, hearing the small sniffles that escaped her lips.
“I’ll take good care of her…” Minji whispered.
“I know you will. Bora knows her schedule, but she has therapy every week now. Every Thursday morning. She hates shrimp and hates being left alone. Don’t ever leave her alone.” Dong pointed at Minji, not wanting her to forget that last part.
“I won’t forget,” Minji nodded.
Bora hated what they were doing, but it was the only way to keep Dong and Yubin safe. With more police poking around, it was the only way to throw them off their trail.
By dinner, everything seemed to have settled and Minji couldn’t help but watch Siyeon from the kitchen. They were hidden in Dong and Bora’s vacation home, enjoying the wonders of being by the beach.
“Tell me more about Siyeon,” Minji whispered, turning to look at Bora who was in the middle of cooking.
“What is there to tell?” Bora frowned.
“She hasn’t moved from the couch since Dong left…” Minji pouted, looking back at the blonde.
“She probably fell asleep,” Bora sighed. “Can you check on her?” She frowned.
Minji nodded her head, walking out of the kitchen and saw that the younger woman was indeed asleep. She looked back at Bora, seeing her entirely focused on the stove rather than the blonde on the couch.
“Siyeon-ah?” Minji spoke quietly, stroking her cheek gently. She watched as Siyeon slowly stirred awake, letting out a small mumble before opening her eyes to see Minji. “Hey… You okay?” She frowned.
Siyeon didn’t answer and honestly looked terrified that Minji was in front of her instead of Bora. She didn’t like it. She didn’t like the whole change.
“Bora… I don’t think she’s happy…” Minji frowned.
She heard the sounds of the stove shutting off and then footsteps. Both women turned to see Bora walk in, kneeling in front of Siyeon and pushing Minji out of the way.
“You’re okay,” Bora whispered. “Did you have a nap?” She asked, watching the blonde nod her head. “Good, good. Dinner is almost done… Are you hungry?”
Minji watched as Bora took care of Siyeon, and she was in shock. Every time she saw Siyeon, she was so put together and talkative. Not once had she ever been like this. But then again, she didn’t know what went on behind closed doors to their private lives.
“Is she always like this?” Minji frowned when they both went into the kitchen.
“No, she’s just having a rough time these days…” Bora sighed. “She withdraws into herself and can’t do anything for herself because she’s so scared.”
“So she’s like a kid?” Minji frowned, watching Bora nod her head.
“Kind of. Her therapist says it’s a way she sorts through everything mentally. Last time she was like this it took a few days, but with everything going on, I think she’s going to need more time to get over everything,” Bora frowned.
“Well she kind of does have a traumatic… back… story…” Minji muttered.
“It’s not like we killed her and still took the money. She chose to stay with us and nothing will change until she says the word.” Bora snapped quickly. She didn’t like the insinuation that they were really keeping Siyeon with them against her will. Dong didn’t plan on keeping her around but after her sister died, she made a promise.
“Aren’t you afraid that one day she’ll change her mind and rip your heart to shreds?” Minji whispered.
It was a possibility. Bora hadn’t thought of it. She refused to think about it. She didn’t want to think about that possibility.
“Yes, but… I’d rather her be happy…” Bora admitted. “And if she thinks she’ll be happier out in the world without us… then… I would let her go…” She sighed.
Dinner was quiet. Awkward even. Minji watched as Bora tried to get Siyeon to eat, and watched her fail horribly.
“Are you still chewing?!” Bora groaned.
“She’s taking her time,” Minji smiled.
Bora continued to try and get Siyeon to hurry up and right before Minji could take another bite, their doorbell sounded.
“Who the hell could that be?” Bora muttered before pulling her phone out to check one of the cameras. She immediately frowned when she saw the same detectives there at the front door. “Of fucking course…” She muttered.
“What do we do about her?” Minji whispered.
“How quick are you on your feet?” Bora asked.
“Very,” Minji answered.
“Go answer the door and just let me answer okay?” Bora asked, watching Minji nod her head. “Remember what we talked about Sing?” She whispered while Minji went to answer the door.
“Can I help you?” Minji frowned the second she opened the door.
“Hello again,” the detectives smiled. “Just wanted to know if we can come in and chat with you and your wife.”
“Now isn’t a good time…” Minji whispered.
“Oh? Is it not a good time? Why? Hiding something?” The other laughed before pushing the door open.
Minji rolled her eyes as they stepped inside, looking around the place.
“Chew it.” Bora glared, watching Siyeon carefully. Her cheeks were full of food, and she was afraid she was going to choke.
“We were in the middle of dinner. Hence why I said it was not a good time.” Minji glared at the detectives who were a little in shock at the third person seated at the table.
“Our apologies…” the detective frowned while watching Bora hold onto Siyeon’s cheeks. “Um… is she okay?”
“She’s fine. Just being difficult.” Bora muttered without looking at them. When she did turn to get a glance at who was talking to her she heard the sound of someone spitting and frowned. “Really?” She frowned when she saw the half chewed food on the table.
“Uh… Is this some kind of… kink thing or…” the younger detective frowned.
“No.” Bora scoffed. “Does it look like we’re having some kind of kinky relationship with her?” She glared. “How dare you assume that! She’s not capable of living on her own and needs help with her day to day life! And you come into our home and accuse that?!” Bora screamed at them.
Minji was surprised at how Bora was acting, but she trusted her to get the nosy detectives out of the house. She watched as Siyeon covered her ears, frowning at the entire ordeal.
“Singnie,” Minji motioned for her to come closer to her and she watched as the blonde hurried over, allowing herself to be held by the older woman.
“Sorry! Sorry!” The detectives quickly said, trying to cover themselves.
“We ought to tell your in-charge how intolerant you are.” Minji glared at them while rubbing Siyeon’s back.
“Um… no that won’t be necessary,” the younger detective quickly chuckled nervously. “We didn’t understand she was mentally incapable…”
“Who said she was mentally incapable?!” Minji gasped.
“That’s it. Get out!” Bora shouted. “You’ve both insulted my entire family!” She yelled, pushing them out of the home.
Minji held Siyeon tightly, keeping her comfortable until she heard them say more apologies before the door slammed shut. She felt Siyeon jump, and she held her tighter.
“Idiot people…” Bora muttered while walking back.
The smaller woman saw how Siyeon clung to Minji, and she was happy that she looked content.
“Should we finish dinner?” Minji sighed.
“We should at least try.” Bora flopped down in her seat, watching Siyeon slowly move back to her seat. “They might still hang around so…” She whispered.
“Didn’t plan on changing how I was acting,” Minji whispered.
“How are you Sing?” Bora asked, watching her shrug her shoulders. “Can you keep eating?” A shake of the head. “Really?” Bora frowned.
“Just a little more Sing,” Minji coaxed. “Just a few more little bites.” She smiled at the blonde, watching her nod her head slowly before taking another bite of her rice from Bora’s spoon. “Good… Very good,” Minji smiled.
