Chapter 5
Yoohyeon laid on the concrete, a small thin cushion under her chest and arms as she adjusted her camera. Her focus was incredible, not once making a sound.
Minji laud under an umbrella, a bit away from the younger woman who seemed to be entirely focused on whatever she needed to capture.
But to Minji, it just looked like she was laying on the ground taking pictures of grass. She watched as Yoohyeon cradled the expensive camera, heard the many clicks and then saw Yoohyeon barely adjust herself then a series of more clicks.
“Ma’am… Yubin.”
Minji glanced over at her maid, seeing her extend the phone to her. She took it carefully placing it to her ear.
“Yes, my love?” Minji sighed.
“Taking a bit longer than expected at work. I’ll be home late tomorrow…” Yubin muttered.
“Oh… Alright.” Minji frowned.
“Don’t be so upset… You have Yooh with you right?” She asked.
“Of course. I’m watching her take photos of grass right now. Enjoying the sunny weather,” The older woman smiled. “Take care of yourself. Don’t get hurt too much please.” She never wanted her wife to be hurt severely, but she knew that sometimes it came with the job description.
Yoohyeon had sat up after a few minutes, a few minutes after the couple had bid their goodbyes and ended the call.
Minji watched her, tilting her head as Yoohyeon stared at the camera, fingers rested on certain buttons. It was almost as if she wasn’t moving at all.
But Yoohyeon was. Minor movements. Just browsing the photos she had just taken.
“Yoohyeon-ah,” Minji called softly to her, watching her turned her head in her direction. “Come please,” She beckoned.
The younger woman stood up, taking the camera with her. She was careful in the yard, sitting next to her on the open lounge chair.
“Yes?” Yoohyeon whispered.
“What are you taking photos of?” Minji asked. It had been killing her curiosity for hours watching her set up and only take a few photos of the grass.
“Oh!” Yoohyeon smiled, moving to kneel next to Minji. “A ladybug.” She turned the camera toward Minji, showing her the extremely zoomed in photos of the little ladybug walking up a blade of grass.
Minji was in shock at how well the camera worked. Well, she assumed it would since it was rather expensive and Yoohyeon had been extremely apprehensive about the entire purchase.
“That… looks really good! Like a professional!” Minji smiled, hearing a loud, mocking laugh in return.
“A professional wouldn’t have done this…” She started listing all the things wrong with the photos, how the subject of the image was a certain way, how the perspective was off, how everything was just screaming amature.
“I still like it,” Minji whispered, ultimately stopping her from rambling. “How are your studies going?” She asked.
“They’re okay. I’m focusing on Spanish right now,” She sighed. “It’s hard,” She muttered. “Not as hard as English, but it’s hard…” She frowned.
“You’re not going to give up are you?” Minji asked, watching her shake her head.
“Maybe a break soon. Go back to Chinese for a while until I can get the brain moving for it again,” Yoohyeon shrugged. “Can I ask for another big purchase?” She asked quietly and quickly.
Minji perked up at the question, knowing that Yoohyeon would decline her payments and only ask for things to be paid for. It had been two months since her last purchase.
“What is it?” Minji asked.
“I want a personal library corner in my room… I love reading and I want to start putting books in it, and the window that’s there… it’s perfect to sit and read…” Yoohyeon mumbled.
“So… you’d like us to buy you books? And shelving?” Minji frowned.
“Yeah! You can buy it and I’ll put it together and make sure it’s all good,” Yoohyeon shrugged, attempting to lessen the blow of just how much money it entailed.
“Why would you put it together? We’ll have someone do that for you. And we’ll take a trip to the bookstore. Let’s go,” Minji stood up from the lounge chair, walking back into the mansion.
The older woman couldn’t help but think of all the extra rooms they did have in their home. They had a workout room… two offices, one of the guest rooms had been converted to Yoohyeon’s room and it was rather large with a connecting en-suite bathroom…
One of the extra guest rooms could be a library… Yubin loved to read… It wouldn’t be absolutely horrible… a nice relaxing room…
Minji had two of Yubin’s best men ordered to measure the area Yoohyeon wanted her little library to be, and then sent them to find bookshelves that wouldn’t collapse after just a few months of use. She gave them a few locations to purchase from, knowing they wouldn’t disappoint.
The bookstore trip was sudden, and Yoohyeon was in love. Minji trailed behind her, watching her pick up various books, read a few pages inside or just the back or even the inside cover jacket just to see if she was interested.
“Okay… I think I should be done…” Yoohyeon muttered after picking five books.
“Why?” Minji frowned.
“Because books are expensive…” She mumbled.
Minji held her hand out, taking one of the books and immediately found the price. She took another and based off of just those two, she assumed it was all moderately the same. She did quick math in her head and couldn’t help but laugh.
“What?” Yoohyeon pouted.
“Darling, this will barely make a dent. Get more books. I want you to be happy,” Minji whispered.
Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the sudden flash of pure happiness cross Yoohyeon’s face. She wandered further, finding more books she was interested in and even picked up a few language help books, new languages that Minji never even thought Yoohyeon was interested in too.
By the end of their trip, Yoohyeon had somewhere around forty new books. She had the biggest smile on her face and couldn’t help but hug Minji tightly after the purchase was made. She did, however, feel bad about the cashier having to box everything for them.
But soon enough, they were back in the car, already headed home while Yoohyeon already had a book open.
“Baby… can you not in the car,” Minji whispered, gently shutting the book. “I’ll want to look over your shoulder and I’ll get motion sick,” She frowned.
“Oh, okay…” Yoohyeon shut the book completely, placing it in the box.
“Your room will be off limits for the rest of the day. They’ll be bringing in the bookshelves and you’ll be able to shelf them however you’d like tonight. But I do want to spend some time with you,” She whispered, placing a hand under Yoohyeon’s chin.
The younger woman turned in her touch, facing her with an unreadable expression.
“Yubin will be back tomorrow. I’ll need someone to sleep with me tonight,” Minji whispered.
“Oh, okay,” Yoohyeon smiled.
“Such a good pup for me… How did we get so lucky?” Minji sighed, placing her hand on Yoohyeon’s cheek. She felt the younger’s cheeks warm at the comment, and an idea went off in her head. “Do you like being called a pup?” She smirked, hearing the embarrassed whine. “Oh this changes everything…” she whispered.
