In Which Its Game Night at the Avengers Compound
Peter sat in the empty Avengers compound living room in silent anticipation. He loved game night at the compound; it was never a dull moment, and the best part was tonight was his turn to choose the game. He had been thinking about it for weeks. He wanted to choose something fun, but not overly competitive. He had been weighing his options. Monopoly was fun, but Pepper always… ALWAYS won when they played that. They always had fun with cornhole, but Clint always won that, and Hulk always got mad, and made his own hole in the board. Peter loved playing Ping Pong, but with his school friends like Ned and MJ. When he played with the Avengers it always ended in a broken window, or broken paddles, or a broken ping pong table, or broken ping pong balls, and more often than not all four. It had been Scott’s turn to choose last week, and he chosen spoons. That had been very fun, until Thor broke Mr. Stark’s wrist while wrestling over a spoon. All these things were why Peter had finally decided on a much less competitive game, and gone with a more bonding game. Two Truths and a Lie.
Tony walked into the living room, and made a beeline for next to where Pepper was sitting.
“Oh look who finally decided to join us!” Clint laughed from his perch up on the rafters. Tony promptly showed him a certain finger (but in a loving way), and plopped down on the couch next to Pepper. He set his coffee mug down on the coffee table, and picked up a pen. He shoved it down the itchy cast on his wrist and began scratching with it. It felt so good!
“Stop that!” Pepper scolded and slapped his hand.
“It itches!” Tony complained.
Thor laughed from across the room.
“Oh? This is funny for you?” Tony shot him a glare, Thor just laughed more.
“Quite amusing,” Thor confirmed prompting more laughs from around the room.
“Oh, haha make fun of the injured guy! Very funny. Just you guys wait until April Fools day!” Tony warned pointing around the room.
“I am absolutely terrified,” Rhodey laughed.
Pepper rubbed her fingers through Tony’s hair.
“We’ll make sure you get them back,” She said lovingly. Everyone shut up. They knew they were in for it if Pepper got involved in any pranks. Tony smirked at everyone.
“Hear that? Be afraid!”
Steve opened his mouth to say something else, but was interrupted by Peter.
“Guys?! Can we be nice to Mr.Stark and play the game already?!” Peter said sounding a little strained, the kid needed to loosen up around the team a little. He always got awkward and flustered. Tony felt a little bad for him, but Right now the kid seemed more excited than nervous. Tony glanced at him; he looked like he was about vibrate out of hs chair with excitement. He was beaming ear to ear. Tony smiled. He loved the kids exitment.
“What's the game?” Nat asked from her seat directly below Clint.
“For Tony’s sake let's hope it’s nothing to hard,” Pepper laughed. Tony turned to her with mock shock and betrayal.
“You of all people!?” He exclaimed
"Don’t worry I took into careful account handicaps and past happenings," Peter said smiling, "We are going to play two truths and a lie."
There were some scattered grumbles from around room. Tony tried his best not to grown.
"I mean we don't have too..." Peter mumbled.
"No, I think it'll be fun," Scott spoke up and patted Peter the back. "It will help us bond."
"I'm with scott," Pepper spoke up, and one by one the rest of the team agreed. Tony had to agree with Scott they all could use a little more bonding time, even if he didn't like it.
"I'll go first," Pepper volunteered tossing Peter a friendly smile, "Tony, I won't hold it against you if you don't get this," Pepper said before continuing, "I'm married to a genius, I am allergic to strawberries, and I don't like it when Tony wears his suit in the house."
Tony was immensely confused. All of those things were true... wait the strawberries, was she not allergic? He was sure she was. He didn't dare speak though. He didn't want to risk the embarrassment of guessing wrong.
Apparently no one else wanted to guess either.
"Um-- Pep, did you forget to slip a lie in there?" Tony asked hesitantly.
"Nope," Pepper's smile was to big. What was he missing? he cast a quick glance at everyone else; they looked just as stumped as him.
"Um, Ms. Potts, I think you did," Peter said slowly. She laughed.
"First of all you guys are hysterical when you're stumped, and second I am married to the biggest idiot in existence," Pepper laughed (obviously very proud of herself).
"Hey!" Tony exclaimed, "Are we renaming game night tease Tony night?"
"But I love my idiot," Pepper cooed and gave Tony a little kiss on the mouth.
"Aw, I love you too," Tony smiled and kissed her back. He held her gaze for a second, the room melting away, then Steve coughed.
"Are you two done?" Nat had her arms crossed.
"Sorry," Pepper apologise, but nestled closer to Tony.
"I want to go!" Peter said and hopped off the wall he had been sitting on.
"Alright kiddo shoot. I'll get this one," Tony loved the kids inthusiasm.
"Okay, okay, hang on I gotta think," Peter stuck his tongue out a little and thought hard, "Alright I got it! Okay, I am small, i have blue eyes, and one time a building collapsed on me and almost died."
Tony knew this one.
"Good job Pete, but you gotta make it believable," Tony lifted his coffee to his lips, "We all know a building never crushed you."
There was an awkward silence. Tony took a sip of coffee.
"Tony, honey-- Peter's eyes are brown," Pepper said gently. This took a minute to register with him, and then he realized it.
Pffft! Tony snorted and coffee sprayed out of his nose and mouth.
"A building wHAT?!" Tony coughed, "Peter when did this happen!?"
What had happened? Why hadn't he been there?
"It was super epic! I was like all buried in stuff, and the I was like freaking out and then I was like Nah spider man! I got this! And i lifted this super heavy thing off--" Peter trailed off slowly, as realization dawned on him. Tony peaked around the room, everyone else was also gaping.
