Yumi has been in love her whole life. The moment her gaze was locked on him, it had remained locked. As if she had thrown the key far away, as if the key had sunk deep into the ocean with no means of retrieval. She would do anything to be with him, his jet black hair, his gorgeous black eyes, he was absolutely perfect.
She had raised the knife multiple times against girls who have the nerve to get so close to her Senpai, to her Kai. She loved watching their blood splatter, a rush of euphoria would run through her veins, almost as if she had won an amazing prize.
The satisfaction she receives when the light escapes their eyes is absolutely irreplaceable, in the moment she feels like a spoiled child whose life was handed to them on a silver spoon, receiving everything she’d ever wanted in two snaps of a finger.
She adores Kai, she loves him. She would do anything for him.
Or she’s supposed to.
She laid on her soft white mattress, wide awake in the middle of the night. The moonlight shimmering onto her face, shining brighter than ever. Yumi was annoyed. Her thoughts were clouding her brain, resulting in an inability to fall asleep. She turned over in her bed, looking for a more comfortable position to sleep in.
However all that came to her was the silky blonde hair of her partner in crime. Yumi hated the way every time she stared into those rich brown eyes, they felt intoxicating, like she could get high by merely staring deep into them. Her soft hands and slender fingers always felt so delicate, despite being covered in cuts and bruises from their work.
Every part of Celeste was like a magnet pulling her forth, attracting her as if they were north and south pieces of a magnet. Yumi hated that feeling. She hated the way her chest tightens every time she hears Celeste’s beautiful voice, she hated the way her face flushed every time they got a little too close for a platonic relationship.
She despised the urge to cling onto Celeste, to brush her fingers through her silky hair, to admire every scar on her body, to feel her cherry red lips against her own. It was insufferable.
Yumi wondered what that horrible feeling was. Surely, there was a completely reasonable explanation for all of these thoughts. Maybe this happens to everyone.
Celeste looked extra attractive that day.
They met up at midnight as per usual, Yumi entered the hideout to find Celeste already practicing her archery skills. She had gotten so much better at archery compared to when they first met. Yumi admired the scene before her eyes, taking in every detail she could in the span of a few seconds.
The way Celeste’s fingers wrapped around the bow so elegantly, the way she held the arrow and the rope tightly, the way her arms… No, she mustn’t get distracted. These feelings will leave soon, they will disappear like nothing ever happened.
‘Hello. The red head just finished erasing the tape, and Elijah took all of the evidence to be set ablaze like you asked.’ Celeste greeted her with a brief report.
‘Alright.’ Yumi nodded her head, not taking her eyes off the other girl.
Celeste stole a small glance at her, her brown eyes as mesmerizing as ever.
‘Is there… Anything you want to say?’ She broke the thin wall of silence in between them.
Yumi really did want to say something. She called her there so they could plan their next move. She was supposed to tell her about their plans. Yet she couldn’t let the words leave her lips, it was like her ability of speech had suddenly disappeared at that moment. It didn’t feel right to kill for that man.
No. What was she thinking? She’d kill for his love, and she’s been killing for his love since forever. Despite her denial, her stubborn body still wouldn’t permit those words to exit.
Yumi didn’t know what to do in that moment, and so she didn’t remember much of what happened after. Her mind was frozen, she couldn’t think straight, it wasn’t her fault. It wasn’t her fault that now, the two girls were alone in Yumi’s grand estate.
Celeste seemed confused, after all, they didn’t normally meet in that house. Celeste is only ever permitted to go there when they have to execute a plan there, or when there’s some form of a party and Yumi needs an extra pair of eyes.
‘Yumi?’ She spoke. She spoke oh so gently, her smooth voice sounded horribly marvelous, Yumi could hear her heartbeat quicken.
‘I’m… sorry.’ Yumi forced out. It made no sense as to why she was apologizing, she could see the concern in Celeste’s face rise.
‘Are you okay? You’re acting weird.’ Celeste hesitantly asked.
Yumi wanted to jump into her arms, to feel her soft touch, to be as close to her as she possibly could.
She bit her lip, they sat in complete silence for a couple of minutes. Yumi didn’t know how to act.
‘I think… I don’t like him anymore.’ The words fled out of her mouth so quickly, startling even herself. What was she saying?
Celeste took a couple of seconds to digest that statement, staring at her in complete shock.
‘So, you don’t like him anymore?’ She leaned forward, Yumi felt like her chest was about to burst.
‘I’m… sorry, I don’t know what has gotten into me, you should leave. I’ll talk to you again tomorrow.’ She hastily explained, not knowing what to do. Her brain was sent into a panic.
‘Yumi. There’s something wrong, what is it?’ Celeste remained at her place, not moving despite being told to leave.
‘It’s nothing, leave right now.’ The dark haired girl pulled her gaze away.
‘Yumi…’ She spoke softly, staring at her.
‘Leave, it’s nothing. I’m just a little confused.’ Yumi sighed.
‘Well, you could talk to me about that if you’d like to, I’ll listen to you as much as you want me to. I’ll be going now.’ Celeste turned away.
Yumi wanted to watch her leave, to finally have a little peace so she could clear her head. But her body instinctively moved towards her, taking her hands and wrapping them around her own.
‘Celeste, I think I’m in love with you.’ She said, unable to stop herself from making such a confession. She had hardly even registered the fact she stopped the girl from leaving, much less the confession that escaped her lips like a jail breaker.
Celeste stared at her in complete shock, the two girls unable to say anything.
‘I’m so sorry, please forget that.’ Yumi released the girl’s hand from her clutches.
‘You do?’ Celeste stammered.
‘I… don’t know.’ She admitted truthfully.
‘Do you like girls, Yumi?’ She softly asked.
‘I don’t know.’ She resplied.
‘Would you kiss a girl?’
‘I don’t know.’
‘Would you kiss me?’
Yumi could feel her heart erupting like a volcano at that moment.
She silently nodded, still not returning their eye contact.
She could feel Celeste leaning closer to her, and she could feel herself leaning towards her as well. Celeste really was like a magnet, she could feel herself drawing closer to her, unsure of what to do, yes, but she was positive that she wanted this.
She could feel Celeste hesitating as well, yet neither of them backed down. They continued inching forward to each other, until eventually, their lips had collided against each other.
Celeste tasted wonderful, she was sweet like a cherry, her lips felt soft, she was soft. No word could ever describe how she felt in the moment, but she was sure she was happy about it.
‘Was that… alright?’ Celeste asked.
‘Yes.’ She nodded.
God, she was in love.
Yumi sat in a chair in her bathroom before her mirror, her ponytail finally released from the embrace of her hair tie. She could still feel her heart racing, as Celeste gently combed through her long hair.
‘Are you sure?’ She asked.
Yumi nodded.
She could hear the sounds of the steel scissors soaring through her hair gracefully, she watched as her long black hair slowly turned shorter. She had no reason to grow it for anyone anymore, after all, Celeste likes her the way she is, even if she did fall in love with a serial murderer.
She had finally laid down the knife. She had finally moved forward from him.
