Jilly
Drabble 3 - For the Dancing and the Dreaming
Lily's POV, when they finally got together in their seventh year
Lily didn't need much.
James made such an effort on her, he always had. In the beginning, his efforts were more jokes for himself than hers. Always making such a scene that he'd say was for her.
"I'll swim and sail on savage seas," he would say dramatically, "with no fear of drowning!"
Sirius would then pipe in loudly, finishing his sentence like it was a game.
James had wanted Lily to finish his sentence.
But Lily was not astounded with his words.
After all, she had no need for rings of gold or poetry. She only ever wanted a hand to hold hers; through all of life's sorrows and delights.
And finally, after years, James got it right.
