A Black Cat, Ms. Nancy and a Knitted Blanket

Mickey finally decided to go on a morning run with Ian. Ian was very happy that Mickey decided to join him, though they had to push the run back because Mickey was not getting up any earlier the 7. They had got halfway through Ian's normal rout, Mickey heard what sounded like a cat freaking out and boys laughing. Mickey stopped in his tracks. "Red." Mickey said. "Hm?" Ian hummed. "You hear that? It's a cat." Mickey said. "Yeah I do." Ian said looking around trying to figure out where the noise was coming from. Mickey hears the sound getting louder as he wondered towards right. "Army, down here." Mickey said walking down the road. The sound of the cat got louder and louder as they walked down the road. Coming into view was two boy, around 14 years old, chasing around a black cat and throwing rocks at it. "Hey, fuckers!" Mickey yelled running towards the boys. The boys took off almost immediately. Mickey picked up one of the bigger rocks and chucked it at them, hitting one of them in the back of the head.

Mickey turns around and sees Ian bending down to pet the cat. The cat at first backed away but then slowly makes its way to Ian. Ian gently pets the cat's head. The cat had on a knitted yellow sweater on and a white collar with a tag hanging from it. Ian turned over the tag and it said. 'Caroline, Owner's name Nancy Gray If found please return to #### ######'. "Mickey, she has a address on the collar. Maybe we should bring her home." Ian said. "Yeah, yeah. Let's bring it home." Mickey said. "The tag says her names Caroline." Ian said as he scooped up the cat. They started walking towards the address.

"She kinda looks like Bazooka." Ian said looking at the cat in his hands. It's true the cat did look like Bazooka the stuffed cat. "Yeah kinda. Just with more fur." Mickey said reaching out to pet the cat. "I think that's the house." Ian said pointing to a beat-up little house. "Are you sure? That's house is literally falling apart. It looks like somewhere Ig used to get coke." Mickey said. Ian checks the tag again "Yup! That's the address." Ian said. They walked up to the house and knock on the door. The door was opened by a little girl who couldn't have been older the nine. "Hello" She said. "Um hi. We found this cat and the address on the tag was here." Ian said. "One second, please." the girl said closing the door. The door opened again a moment later and it was an old woman this time, presumably Nancy. "Oh my! My Caroline!" The old woman said reaching out for the cat, which Ian gladly handed to her. "Thank you for bringing her home." The woman said. "Oh it's no problem, ma'am." Ian said smiling. "Give me a second. I want to give you something to thank you for bring my Caroline home." Ms. Nancy said. "No, no. You dont have to do that- ma'am." Mickey said. "No I insist." Ms. Nancy said "Why don't you come inside for a minute while I find something.". "Well- I guess we could." Mickey said, following the woman into her house pulling Ian with him.

"Why don't you young men take a seat while I go find something." Ms. Nancy said. They both sat on the couch and looked around the living room. It was decorated with red birds, crosses and pictures of what was most likely Ms. Nancy's family. The little girl from earlier walks into the living room, now eating a ice-cream sandwich. "Hi." Ian said giving the girl a wave. "What are you guys names?" The little girl asked. "Im Ian and he's Mickey." Ian told the girl awkwardly. "Mines Atheana." The girl, Atheana said, going to sit on a little rocking chair. "Was that your grandmother?" Ian asked. "Granny Nancy? No, shes my great grandmother." Atheana said. Ms. Nancy walks back into the room holding a yellow and white knitted blanket. "Here you go, young men go." Ms. Nancy said handing the boys the blanket. "Oh, we don't wanna take your blanket, Ms. Nancy." Ian said. "Oh, dear I have plenty." Ms. Nancy said. "It's true. She knits A LOT." Atheana said. "Well thank you Ms. Nancy." Ian said "Yeah, thanks." Mickey said. "Oh your welcome, dear. And please just call me Nancy." Nancy said. "Well thank you, Nancy." Ian said, smiling at the women. "Well I hope to see you nice young men again soon." Nancy said as she walked them to the door. "It was lovely to meet you, Nancy." Ian said.
