Chapter 1

Hey guys, I have been having a pretty hard time writing, but comments - especially long comments - are really motivating. Please help me find the energy to write by commenting if you like my work!

Midoriya Izuku had to cope with people calling him useless and beating him up since he was four, simply because he didn’t have a quirk. At least his parents still treated him like a person, they still loved him. And one day, his soulmate will surely love him.

Inko would take care of him to the best of her skills; she worked as a lawyer but still found time for him.

Hisashi was a fairly new Hero called Pyro, but then Izuku turned four, the hero commission wanted him to cut ties with his family after finding out his son was quirkless and his wife had a weak power, trying to even arrange a marriage with someone with a ‘better’ quirk so they could have a child with a powerful quirk.

He declined it and he was obliged to ‘retire’, as he still had not made his way to the top of the ranks, nobody questioned the hero’s departure in the heroic world.

The dragon quirked man ended up having to seek another career, Izuku expected him to be upset at having to give up his hero status because of him but Hisashi reassured him that he didn’t care for that, he wasn’t going to give up on him that easily.

Having loving parents is the only thing that kept Izuku going, he lost his one friend when he was labeled quirkless, Bakugou now being the major tormentor in his life, utilizing his quirk which inflicted multiple lasting scars on his body.

Inko did attempt talking to Mitsuki about it, but the woman’s argument was that ‘boys will be boys’ and that had the green-haired woman ultimately break off their friendship, it was apparent that the blond didn’t care that her son was hurting Izuku, and Masaru was too much of a coward to say anything.

Hisashi had sought to file charges to the school from letting the teachers treat their kid like that, for enabling the students to mistreat his son, but the police dismissed the case as soon as they found out his son is quirkless.

Regrettably there was nothing that could be done, changing schools wouldn’t assist in anything, neither relocating to another state, everywhere was the same.

When Izuku was ten, Midoriya Hisashi departed to work overseas, in the USA to be more precise, the job provided to him would pay him enough that it would enable Inko to remain home and care for Izuku for the next several years.

It was when Izuku was fourteen that he couldn’t take it anymore, his once childhood friend encouraged him to kill himself and All Might told him he couldn’t be a hero, he believed his parents would be relieved if he was gone, it’s not like he could keep living like this even if he wanted to.

What would he do when he becomes an adult? Nobody would employ him thus he would never be able to work or make money, he surely wouldn’t be accepted in any faculty and he didn’t want to stay under his parents’ wing for the rest of his life. What would he do when they are gone? Live on the streets?

He didn’t jump off the roof he was at after All Might departed, instead he went his way back home, when the sounds of explosions caught his attention he went to see what was going on, only to find his tormentor, Bakugou, being held hostage, their eyes met, red eyes full of fear begging for help and green eyes full of mirth, Bakugou looked at the greenette in horror, was Deku smiling? Was he thrilled he was going to die?

Izuku didn’t spare a glance at him as he left the scene, he knew a hero would end up saving the idiot anyways, being it too late or not, he should probably feel guilty over feeling this happy at seeing the bully so afraid, but he couldn’t help it, the boy was finally in his place, being hurt while everyone watched and did nothing.

Coming back home he walked to the kitchen and got a knife in his hands, this was his best choice, he had thought about it before, but as he pondered before, he had no future here, not while he was still quirkless.

Hearing a gasp from his right he discovered his mother with wet eyes gazing at him in terror, he wanted to tell her that he was not about to kill himself, but he didn’t want to lie to her.

The rest of the day was in a haze, he just remembered mother bringing him to his room and slamming the door behind her, he wondered whether mom was upset with him.

He didn’t budge from his bed, too exhausted to do much more than lay down.

“That’s it, we’re moving” Came the voice of a determined Inko who bursted into his room, she held her cellphone in one hand.

“M-Mom…”

“No! We’re moving! Sashi found someplace safe!” She beams at him, eyes still red from sobbing.

Izuku blinks slowly in bewilderment. “W-What?”

“There is a country where 80% of the population is quirkless” His dad stated via the phone. “I found out a while ago”

Izuku perked up at the news, someplace where most people were quirkless? Why wasn’t there anything on the internet about it? Why there was now news about it?

As if he could read his mind, Hisashi continued. "Apparently Japan and the USA have prohibited all material from Brazil from surfacing in researches, censorship was prevalent two hundred years ago, but it appears they never stopped with it”

“H-How did you find out then?” Izuku pondered out loud.

“Well, we can’t find any information online or in the news, but it doesn’t mean people won’t talk, they simply don’t believe it’s significant information, one of my colleagues came from Argentina, one of the countries neighboring Brazil.  She was talking about how people there didn’t care about quirks to make a point to the ones criticizing her about her ‘villainous’ quirk, I questioned more about it and she told me about most of its population being quirkless”

Izuku couldn’t help but feel optimistic, a whole country where quirked individuals were not the norm. “S-So we’re going to Brazil?”

“Yes”

“What about your job?”

“I’m already in Brazil, my coworker and I made plans to come here after the debate, I told her about being a retired Hero and she got me in contact with one the Hero Schools there, so I’m a teacher in Santa Maria Machado now, I was going to get your two here after I settled in but after what your mother told me…”

“Ah” He felt ashamed now. “I-I just… I didn’t want to be a bother a-anymore”

“Oh Izu, you were never a bother” Inko remarked, stopping herself from weeping again.

“We’re getting you out of Japan tonight, I purchased you two airplane tickets already” His father said firmly. “You are both already know english so that will assist with communication, but we will need to learn portuguese if we want to settle down”

“I can learn!” Izuku stated delighted for the first time in years, he always enjoyed learning new things. “I-I will study on the w-way!”

“What about meeting his soulmate?” Inko realized, she nearly forgot about this minor thing.

Izuku didn’t appear worried by the possibility he may never find his soulmate, he simply shrugs.

“Fate always finds a way, we didn’t reside in the same state and yet we met didn’t we?” Hisashi pointed out to his wife. “And to be honest, Izuku doesn't need more people calling him shit simply because he is quirkless”

“Hisashi!”

“What? It’s true, his soulmates are most obviously japanese and Japan hasn’t been hiding how much they despise the quirkless”

“D-Dad’s right and I don’t want to find my s-soulmate anymore, they would just treat m-me like everyone else” Izuku replied nonchalantly, he has realized that if he ever met his soulmate, they would never accept him for being quirkless, it was his reality, sadly.

“Aright…well, we should get our things ready then, our flight departs at night, we have a few of hours to collect our things, Hisashi will deal with selling the house”

Izuku nodded enthusiastically, he was just so thrilled to know he would be leaving this miserable place, he truly was hoping that people in Brazil would be more tolerant, 20% was still a lot of people, what if the quirked people were the same as here? He shook his head, he shouldn’t think like way, this an opportunity for a fresh beginning.

They left for the airport after getting most of their things, leaving only the furniture of the house behind, they had a lot of luggage with them, their section was pretty much empty when they arrived and for a moment they thought they had missed their flight, but a woman came to greet them telling them it was the right place, she was also going to Brazil and saw their confusion.

“Not many people go there, I’m brazilian myself, only came to Japan for business” The lady explained in flawless english.

“Really? Are you…?” Izuku paused, what if she wasn’t?

The woman smiled warmly. “Quirkless? Sure, I figured you are as well?”

The greenette perked up, eyes going wide with anticipation and joy. “So it's true!  O-O h, how did you cope with -ppeople knowing about it h-here in Japan?” He questioned, suddenly concerned for her.

“Oh I simply ignored them, I’m work for the high ups, you know, the folks Japan needs to deal with if they want our food to keep being shipped here despite their apparent disdain for my country, so since I’m here on their behalf they have to be ‘polite’ to me and deal with my presence” she smirked. “It was hilarious seeing them attempting to be cordial to someone they plainly despise”

Izuku was in amazement, she sounded so confident for someone quirkless, she held herself like she was someone important yet still was sweet and pleasant. Could he grow to be like her someday?

As the plane arrived and they got in, there were only the three of them inside, so the lady from before opted to seat close them.

“You look like a decent child, I hope you will find peace in my country” She remarked assuming he was heading there because he's quirkless.

“I-I hope so too! Oh, w-what’s your name, miss?”

“Oh, silly me, I forgot to introduce myself, I’m Maitê do Santos, just call me Maitê and you are?”

“M-Midoriya Izuku, I-I guess you may call m-me Izuku then!”

Inko was delighted that her son was chatting to someone like him, someone who understood him, so she silently listened while they chatted.

Izuku asked hundreds of questions to the lady about Brazil, she didn’t appear irritated at least, she was really quite polite and would reply with the best of her ability, she even taught him a few phrases before directioning him to a free website that assisted teaching you whatever language you desired.

So for the remainder of the trip he either chatted to Maitê or would attempt studying Portuguese with his mum. They had a lot of time to get to know one other as the journey would take practically two entire days.

When they arrived at the airport of Brasília after 42 hours of travel they were tired, sleeping inside a plane would make anyone sore, Maitê bid them goodbye, having to take another flight to Paraíba, Izuku was a bit saddened to see her go, she was the first quirkless person he has ever met, but he was going to more people like him here.

He brightened up again when he spotted his dad searching for them farther into the airport, he waved his hands pretty fiercely till the black-haired man noticed him and made his way to them.

“Dad!” Izuku sprinted towards his father, nearly tackling him to the floor, but the man didn’t even budge from his position.

“Hello there champ” Hisashi murmured warmly, throwing his arms around his kid, squeezing him firmly.

Inko approached them with a smile, glad to see her husband again.

While his mother and father reunited as well, Izuku looked around analyzing the people at the airport. There were like only 2 people with apparent mutation quirks, the rest looked pretty much like they didn’t have quirks or at least not apparent ones.

He just hopes things will be better here.
