Chapter 2
Hey guys, I have been having a pretty hard time writing, but comments - especially long comments - are really motivating. Please help me find the energy to write by commenting if you like my work!
Hisashi had bought a cozy house a few blocks away from a school that Izuku would be going to and the Hero school his dad was going to work at.
They take some time to settle in, unpacking all of their things and getting familiar with their new home. Exhausted of moving things to their rightful place they sigh when they hear a knock on the door.
Izuku goes to open the door, he is startled to see a couple of people outside holding several tupperware in their hands.
“Hi! Sorry my english isn’t very good” A young girl with brown hair who looked to be the same age as him said with a big smile. “Uh, my parents and the others from the neighborhood want to welcome you! We brought some treats!”
Izuku was surprised to see so many people coming here just to welcome him, Hisashi peeks from behind him and his eyes sparkles when he sees some of the treats.
“Please come in!” He says giving the people space to enter.
The boy can only watch as several people enter their home, each bringing a different type of treat he has never seen.
“We came bearing gifts!” An older woman, probably the girl’s mother, said excitedly. “A little bit of brazilian treats for you all, I hope you find yourselves comfortable here”
Inko noticed the woman’s features and wonders. “Do you speak japanese? Sorry it’s just you look asian and it would be nice to see some people who speak the same language as us”
The woman doesn’t take offense, only chuckling at her question. “Oh yes, I am! I’m Uraraka Mio. I came from Japan to Brazil years ago, came here to get married to my sweetheart over there, Jonathan” The woman said in Japanese this time, pointing to her husband, a tan-skinned man with brown eyes.
Then the brown-haired woman points to the young girl. “This is my daughter, Ochako”
The girl waves her hand with a big smile. “Nice to meet you!” She felt more relaxed now that she could speak Japanese to them. Her first language was still Portuguese but she was better at Japanese than english.
They all introduced themselves, Mio helping translate what the others were saying to Inko and Hisashi about welcoming them and making sure that they can go to them if they need anything.
The kids were sent the kitchen with the tupperware full of treats, they ate some, Izuku loved each one of them, specially the ‘coxinha’ and the ‘brigadeiro’ ones, they tasted very good, but now they were going to put away some of it for later, Ochako was helping him.
“So…” Ochako began a bit awkwardly. “You guys came to Brazil seeking a job or something?”
It took longer than expected for Izuku to realize she was talking to him. “O-Or something, s-sorry, I s-stuter a lot”
“Oh there is no problem with that! And you don’t need to tell me if it’s too personal, I won’t pry”
Izuku fidgeted nervously, could he tell her? Well, he came to Brazil already because people were supposed to be more accepting of the quirkless, but he still was afraid. “I-It’s because I-I’m quirkless” he doesn’t look at her, eyes focusing on his shoes instead
“Ah, I’m sorry, I’ve never been to Japan but I hear people there can be assholes to the quirkless” She says rolling her eyes. “For real, it makes no sense to people be so mean about it, quirks aren’t everything”
Izuku looked at her with hope, she didn’t care he was quirkless, of course, she was born here, she didn’t learn the bad things from the outside.
“D-Do you h-have a quirk?” He asks.
She chuckles. “Yes I do! It’s called ‘Zero Gravity’, it allows the me to remove the effects of gravity from solid things when I touch them with the pads of my fingertips” She shows him the pink pads on her fingertips and he has to stop himself from reaching out and squeezing it, it looked like cat paw beans!
“One tip though, since you’re going to stay in Brazil for good, people don’t go out there asking if they have a quirk, it can be taken as an offense since most of us Brazillians are quirkless” She says kindly.
“O-Oh, sorry, I-I didn’t know!” He feels embarrassed now.
“No worries! Just remember to not repeat it, but anyways, you can be yourself here, you don’t need to worry about it! I’m sure you will make a lot of friends here!” She looks lost in thought for a moment “Ah yes, did you already get enrolled in any schools?”
“Y-Yeah, Santo Mateus I-I think? It’s n-nearby”
“Ah! I go there as well! That's great! Who knows, maybe we can be in the same class!” She says excitedly. “I can help you on the first day at school!”
“C-Can we be friends?” He asks shyly, he really liked her so far, but he doesn’t know how to make friends anymore.
She beams at him. “Of course! We’re going to be the best of friends!” She reaches a hand to him and he quickly reaches back to shake her hand.
The moment their hands touch everything goes black and they find themselves in the void, they startle at the change of scenery, looking around in confusion. Then it sinks in, this is what happens when you find your soulmate! They are supposed to see the memory of when they got their quirks.
Izuku is just so shocked, his parents had described to him how it feels but this is so much, it’s amazing, it’s scary, he looks around and finds a little kid playing inside a small house, she is running through the corridors laughing as Mio goes after her.
“You need to take a bath you little stinky girl!”
Ochako laughs. “No!” She returns to run only to be stopped by Jonathan who picks her up with a smile.
“Gotcha!”
“Nooo” The toddler throws her little fists up dramatically.
“C’mon it’s time for your bath, Chako” He says pinching her nose playfully.
She shows off her tongue to him and slightly slaps his face with booths hands.
Her father laughs at her aggressiveness then stops when he feels light, looking down he finds himself a couple of inches away from the floor and in a blink of an eye he is on the floor again tripping and almost sending his daughter through the window, the girl just looks utterly delighted at the situation as she gets down and starts touching everything to make it float.
The memories faded out, Izuku couldn’t understand what they were saying since they spoke Portuguese but he still could tell what was going on with her running through the house, and then using her quirk on everything, it was adorable.
Izuku turns to look at Uraraka who was chuckling at the scene. “I became a little terror after that day, only stopped using my quirks after I threw up from overusing it”
He can’t help but snort. “T-That sounds h-horrible”
“It is!” She laughs then looks at him. “I heard from the quirkless that when they are sent here they see everything black for a couple of minutes before going back to reality since they never got their quirks, we will be back in a few seconds” She reassures him.
He nods, feeling a bit guilty that she was stuck with a quirkless person, but he also was so happy! He just met his soulmate and she didn’t seem disgusted to be his soulmate!
“A-Are you okay with t-this?” He blurted out.
Uraraka looks confused for a moment then realizes what he meant. “Of course I am! Though he will have to get to know each other better before moving into a more close relationship, don’t you agree?”
“R-Really?” It still surprised him to talk to someone so nonchalant about his quirk status. “A-And y-yeah, I a-agree”
That’s when they find themselves back in the kitchen, still holding each other’s hand, Izuku quickly retreats his hand as if burned in embarrassment while Ochako just giggles at him.
“C’mon! We need to tell everyone we are soulmates!”
“A-Are you s-sure?”
She rolls her eyes playfully. “You need to work on your self-esteem! Yes I’m sure! I’m not ashamed of you and don’t worry!!” She dragged him by his hand to the living room where everyone stopped mid conversation to look at them with curiosity.
“We are soulmates!” Ochako exclaims in Portuguese then repeats it in Japanese for the Midoriyas.
Her parents and neighbors squeal in excitement while Hisashi and Inko look utterly dumbfounded. The green-haired woman looks at her son with hope.
“Is she…”
“A-Alright with me being q-quirkless? Y-Yeah” He responded enthusiastically.
Hisashi slumps into the sofa sighing in relief and Inko beams at her son, motioning him to come closer so she can hug him.
The Urarakas stay longer than the other neighbors, talking to the Midoriya.
Izuku geeked out about heroes to Ochako in his room, he threw away all of his All Might merch, the brunette listened to him with interest, she was in awe of how he could tell the weaknesses of people’s quirks just by watching a video.
In a show of trust he showed her his notebooks, he was afraid she would think it was creepy but she instead was very wonderstruck as she read the pages of one his recents notebooks. Though she frowned at seeing the burn marks on it.
She felt angry just by thinking that someone did this to something that belongs to her soulmate. And then she feels concerned that the burns may not only be on the notebook, she eyes Izuku worriedly, he blinks in confusion at the sudden change of emotion.
“Did they hurt you?” She asks through gritted teeth.
She knew that he was bullied, of course he would be bullied in Japan, but she never thought they would go so far as use their quirks on the quirkless.
Izuku waves his hands dismissively. “I-It’s alright!”
“No it isn’t!” She exclaims angrily. “Filhos da puta! Como se atrevem!” She mutters in Portuguese something he can’t quite translate then she turns to him with a determined look “You won’t have to deal with that here! I promise!”
She doesn’t ask him to show the damage, not wanting to overstep any boundaries, but she can imagine that someone who could burn a notebook this much must have left some scars on the greenette’s body which makes her blood boil.
The boy can’t help but tear up at having someone other than his parents express such anger for him being hurt.
Ochako quickly comforts him thinking she made something wrong but he reassures her they were happy tears.
He was loving here so far.
