Chapter 18

Minji could feel every single part of her body twitch with nerves. Including her tail flicking back and forth under her shirt.

“Stop fidgeting… it’s not that big a deal,” Dong chuckled.

“How do I know that?!” Minji frowned.

The human reached over, placing a hand on the bunny’s thigh. She was careful as she drove, trying to ease the bunny’s nerves while they drove to Dong’s old home.

“It’s not my childhood house, but it is where my parents moved when I was in college and I stayed there for a few years before moving out on my own,” Dong explained. “My parents are actually really kind, very loving people,” She added.

“I’m still the bunny who’s dating you. Their only child.” Minji turned her attention back out the window, just a little too nervous for the entire ordeal. She figured this must’ve been how Dong felt during the train ride down, but her family was large and easily distracted. It was easy for Dong to slip away from her parents before being distracted by the kits or something else going on on the farm.

This was a full sit down dinner with just her and her parents.

“What if they don’t like me because I’m a hybrid?” Minji frowned.

“Oh, they won’t,” Dong whispered.

“How do you know?” Minji frowned.

Dong stayed quiet, parking the car on the street before looking back at the bunny.

“Because.” Dong turned off the engine before stepping out, not at all settling the bunny’s nerves.

“Because why?!” Minji asked while getting out of the car. “You can’t just say that and expect me not to still be nervous!” She whined.

“Because I know they aren’t going to care you’re a hybrid,” Dong whispered before taking Minji’s hands in hers. “Trust me on this,” she frowned.

“Okay…” Minji sighed.

Dong held her hand as they walked, making sure her girlfriend wouldn’t combust on the spot with how nervous she was. The walk up to the apartment building was fine, and the inside was pretty normal. Dong greeted the security guard as well as the other staff, each one greeting her with a small smile.

Minji tried to stay still but the second they got into the elevator she couldn’t stop her ears from twitching.

“It’s going to be okay,” Dong whispered.

“I’m trying really hard,” Minji muttered.

It wasn’t a long walk to the apartment and Dong rang the bell before Minji could stop her. The bunny gave a weary look, and all Dong could do was give her silent comfort before the door was opened.

“Dongie!” A large man smiled, immediately pulling her in for a tight hug. “Who is this?” He asked the second he laid eyes on Minji.

“This is Minji, my girlfriend,” Dong introduced.

“Nice to meet you,” Minji whispered, bowing slightly.

“Nice to meet you as well,” he grinned. “Come in, come in. Your mother is just finishing dinner,” He smiled.

Minji looked around immediately, seeing everything was pretty plain. Very few pictures but it still screamed homey.

“You’ve been working hard?” Dong’s father asked.

“Of course,” Dong chuckled.

“Is that my little Dongdong?” A feminine voice called out.

Minji’s ear twitched toward the noise, and she didn’t miss the look Dong’s father gave. The bunny looked away from him, trying to ease her nerves before she ended up having a heart attack.

“Mom!” Dong smiled.

Minji glanced up, and almost jumped at the kitten hybrid that walked out of the kitchen to greet them.

“Let me get a good look at you,” The kitten smiled while grabbing her daughter’s face.

“They won’t care that you’re a hybrid.”

It made sense why Dong was adamant on not all humans being the same. More specifically pointing at herself. She had hybrid blood even though she was a human. Now it was all making sense.

“Weary of humans?” Dong’s father asked, startling the bunny.

“Y-yes sir,” Minji whispered.

“I can see why. Humans aren’t the best,” he sighed. “But I promise you, you can let your guard down here,” He gave a warm smile, but Minji did keep her guard up anyway. She gave a polite smile and was immediately pulled away.

“Look at you!” The kitten gasped. “Such a pretty bunny, you must have a brain to match as well,” she purred.

“Minji is incredibly smart, she works in the tech field.” Dong smiled.

“I do,” The bunny blushed.

It was odd to have a normal conversation with humans. She had them with Dong and occasionally at work, but now it was different. They were so interested in everything Dong had to say and were interested in what Minji had to say as well.

“So you come from a farming or a weaving family?” The kitten asked Minji.

“Farming… I’m… actually quite shocked you know that…” Minji whispered.

“I lived near bunnies growing up,” the kitten chuckled. “I know bunnies are master farmers and weavers. But I know they do much more than that right?” She asked.

“Yes, um… most of us are farming and typically the younger kits do weaving until they’re old enough… I’ve seen bunny families become mechanics too,” Minji shrugged. “But mostly farming,” She muttered.

“Very interesting, now, if we asked you questions on farming, would you be able to answer it?” Dong’s father asked.

“To a point… I didn’t stick around to really learn farming…” Minji whispered.

“Oh, well that’s okay. Just curious,” he smiled.

The rest of the visit went as well as it could have. By the time dinner was over, Minji felt a little better, but not entirely at ease just yet.

“Why didn’t you tell me your mom was a kitten?” Minji asked when they got into the car.

“I didn’t really feel like it was relevant… Everyone has parents,” She shrugged.

Minji frowned at her girlfriend. Knowing that if she had just said her mother was a kitten she wouldn’t have been as nervous.

“What?” Dong frowned.

“I was absolutely terrified and you didn’t even try to say your parents aren’t full humans…” Minji whispered.

“And again I felt like it wasn’t relevant!” Dong defended.

“Relevant to tell your girlfriend that is afraid of humans… got it.” Minji stared out the window, shifting away from the human. “Take me home please,” She muttered.

“Are you seriously mad at this right now? We were having a good night,” Dong sighed.

“Pull over.”

“What?”

“Pull. Over.” Minji growled.

“You’re not seriously going to walk home…” Dong scoffed.

“I’m not. I’ll find a bus stop and take the damn bus. So you can enjoy your good night,” she muttered before getting out of the car. She took a few steps, hearing the car door open and shut behind her.

“Minji! Come on, don’t walk home in the dark.” Dong reached out and grabbed her arm, forcing her to turn and look at her. “I’m sorry,” She immediately said.

“Just stop,” Minji sighed, pushing her hand off. “I don’t want to fight but I also don’t want to ruin your night so just please…”

“I didn’t mean to say it in that kind of tone…”

“Then how did you mean it?” Minji frowned.

Dong went to answer, only to be stopped by Minji’s phone ringing. The bunny frowned as she pulled it out, seeing Yoohyeon’s contact information.

“Yooh, it’s not a good time…” Minji sighed.

“O-oh, um… can it be a good time? Please?” Yoohyeon sniffed.

“Why are you crying?” Minji immediately asked, catching Dong’s full attention.

“I’m at Siyeon’s place, and… and we’re fighting… I-I stepped away to just get out of it and I’m hiding in the bathroom…”

“How fast can you get to Siyeon’s place?” Minji whispered.

“Twenty minutes?” Dong frowned.

“We’ll be there in twenty okay?” Minji frowned.

“Okay, I’ll wait.”
