Chapter 4
Minji spent more time with the puppy, hanging out with her than she did her own best friend. She would swing by the cafe at the end of Yoohyeon’s shifts and would just enjoy her company.
“It’s a bad crush,” Yoohyeon groaned while walking down the road with the bunny.
“How bad?” Minji asked.
“She’s human for starters.” Yoohyeon sighed. “But she’s not like other humans. She’s nice, quiet, stays to her own little corner…” She added. “Where are we going by the way?”
“Hybrid bar,” Minji explained. “It’s my favorite place. Hardly any humans and I can really let loose,” She sighed.
“Oh… I’m… I’m not that great at drinking… So I try not to…” Yoohyeon pouted.
“It’s okay, you don’t have to,” The bunny quickly reassured her before looking behind them. “Just… Make sure your tail is showing when we walk in. They don’t really like humans in there…” She whispered.
“Got it,” Yoohyeon mumbled.
The bar was just as lively as it was when she met Bora the few weeks prior, allowing them to relax while they enjoyed themselves. Yoohyeon sipped on a soda while Minji sipped her wine. They shared a small bowl of different snacks, just chatting while they enjoyed themselves.
“So what kind of bunny are you? I’ve only seen bunnies with their ears up, and the one I grew up with said it hurt to keep her ears down for so long,” Yoohyeon frowned.
“I’m… Actually a cross, but don’t tell anyone that,” Minji chuckled quietly. “My mom was a lop and my dad was rex, so that’s why my ear has this white spot at the tip,” She let her left ear down, showing the puppy the white fur that surrounded the tip.
“Wow… That’s so cool!” Yoohyeon smiled.
“What about you? What kind of breed are you?” the bunny asked.
“Afghan, that’s why I look more human,” Yoohyeon sighed. “Lots of hybrids would make fun of me because of how thin my tail was and that I looked more human… So… When I got out of hybrid school, I just hid and pretended to be human,” She frowned.
Minji shook her head before taking a sip of her wine. She hated that even within their own species there were idiots who said you weren’t hybrid enough.
“Sorry for the sad backstory… Just… Made sense to explain why I try to be human…” Yoohyeon mumbled.
“It’s okay, I get it,” Minji sighed. “I can assume you know why I try to look human…”
“Because it’s easier?” Yoohyeon asked.
“Pretty much,” Minji frowned. “Lots of people think all bunnies are… Well… You know…” She muttered. When she looked up, she saw the confused look on her face, unsure of what the bunny was talking about. “Do you live under a rock?” She scoffed.
“Kind of…” Yoohyeon whispered.
“Well, they think bunnies are just… dumb and can’t do anything other than be strippers or prostitutes or anything related to that matter,” Minji explained.
“Oh…” The puppy muttered, looking down at her drink. “And what do you do for work?” She asked.
Minji stayed silent, deciding to have another sip of her wine, not bothering to look at the puppy.
“Is it bad?” Yoohyeon asked.
“I fall under the stupid stereotype, but yeah, it’s bad,” Minji sighed.
“What’s so bad about it? If I could I would do it…” Yoohyeon muttered.
Minji glanced over at the puppy, giving her a once-over before moving a few strands of hair out of her face.
“You could… You have a good face,” Minji muttered before looking down. “Good body…” She shrugged.
“How long have you been doing…. That?” The puppy asked.
“Couple of years. Pays the bills,” She muttered.
Yoohyeon was in awe, the bunny in front of her just screamed gorgeous and she was telling her that she would be good at the same things. She had never been told that she would be good at things others were good at and it felt good to hear it.
“Excuse me ladies, but these are from the gentlemen across the bar,” The bartender slid two glasses in front of them, each filled with a blue liquid.
Minji and Yoohyeon looked at the hybrids across the bar, watching them smirk and make little finger guns at them.
“You can give them back.” Minji pushed the drinks toward the bartender, watching his confused face. “And we’re sure.” She added.
The puppy watched the bunny glare at the others, frowning at the entire thing.
“Trust… No one,” Minji pointed at her. “Just because they’re our kind, doesn’t meant they don’t want to use us,” She muttered.
The puppy nodded her head, looking down at her drink again before hearing a small commotion and then the sounds of stools scraping against the tile floor. Minji didn’t even flinch, deciding to focus on her own drink.
“Excuse me, but when a couple of gentlemen send ladies a drink, they are supposed to accept it,” The dog hybrid glared, slamming is hand down on the bar next to Minji.
“And when a lady turns it down, the gentleman should know when to back off,” Minji snapped.
“Oh yeah?!” He growled before shoving her off the stool.
“Hey! Hey!” The bartender stepped in, glaring at the dog hybrids that were circling the two. He pushed them out, while Yoohyeon helped Minji up.
“Are you okay?” Yoohyeon frowned.
“I’m fine…” Minji sighed.
The two left not too long after, walking out of the bar. Minji hated every thing from that interaction and just wanted to be home at that point. Only it didn’t end.
“Look at that! No bartender to save either of you now,” The same hybrid chuckled.
“Back off,” Yoohyeon growled.
“Oh, now you’re going to stand up? What happened to the cowering little puppy at the bar?” He chuckled before pushing the pup back. “Got bite with that bark?” He snarled, pushing her again.
“Leave her alone!” Minji shoved the hybrid back, only to be grabbed by his little friend.
“Look at that, bunny has bite.” His friend laughed.
Minji tried squirming, feeling his arm tighten before they heard another loud shout. The bunny took it as an opportunity while they were distracted and bit down on the hybrid’s arm. She heard the loud yelp, letting her go before hearing someone yelling at them to stop.
“Stupid bunny!” They ran off when the person got closer, allowing Minji to help Yoohyeon back up.
“Are you guys okay?” A woman asked.
“Yoohyeon?”
The puppy frowned when she heard her name, seeing the one person she didn’t think she would see in this area.
“What are you doing all the way over here?”
“I was… With my friend…” Yoohyeon whispered.
“Who is she?” Minji glared, immediately catching the human scents on both women near them. She pulled Yoohyeon closer to her, watching them carefully.
“It’s okay… I know them,” Yoohyeon whispered to Minji. “They’re okay…”
Minji watched them carefully, frowning when Yoohyeon easily went to them. She stayed close while the puppy explained everything, and watched one of the humans put her hands on the pup.
“Come on, we’ll take you home.” The other woman whispered. “Does your friend need a ride?”
“Minji?” Yoohyeon looked back at the bunny, watching her shift from one foot to the other. “Do you need a ride?” She asked.
“I live nearby…” Minji muttered.
“And those idiots could be nearby, come on. We’ll at least drive you there. Even if it’s a block away,” The other spoke.
Yoohyeon held out her hand, leading Minji with her.
The bunny stayed on edge while walking with them, not entirely liking the idea, but it was truthful. It would’ve been dumb for her to walk alone only for her to get jumped again.
The car was extra, way too lavish for Minji, and she hated it. She listened to the women talk to Yoohyeon, barely answering any questions that were being asked.
“So you’re Minji?” The blonde asked.
“Yeah…”
“I’m Siyeon, this is Dong,” The blonde introduced her and her friend, giving her a small smile. “How did you meet her Yooh?” Siyeon asked.
“We met at the cafe.” Yoohyeon answered. “She’s friends with that kitten hybrid I told you about.”
“Ah, I know that hybrid well,” Siyeon chuckled.
“You know Bora?” Minji frowned, glancing at the blonde in the passenger seat.
“Yeah, her wife is one of the investors in my company. Quite the feisty kitten.” Siyeon smiled. “But you guys shouldn’t be in that area at night… don’t you guys watch the news? It’s horrible…”
“I live here…” Minji glared.
“Right… speaking of… Where do you live so I can drop you off?” Dong spoke calmly, trying to turn the conversation around.
“The yellow building at the end of the block,” Minji explained.
“Yellow..?” Dong frowned while trying to find a yellow building.
“That one,” Minji pointed, allowing Dong to slow to a stop.
Dong wasn’t sure, since the building was clearly red.
“Thanks.” Minji got out of the car, pulling out her keys from her bag and disappeared into the building.
“It’s yellow… to both of us…” Yoohyeon whispered, answering the unspoken question that lingered in both human’s minds. “Can you take me home now?” She frowned.
“Yeah… Forgot you guys are hybrids..” Siyeon mumbled.
