Chapter 3
Minji sat up in her bed, seeing the stream had ended right where she wanted it. She felt exhausted and didn’t entirely want to get up just yet, so she rolled over to her side, reaching under the bed for the little wipes she kept there. She cleaned her hands and reached for her phone, seeing a few texts from Bora.
She smiled at the messages asking if she was available and why she wasn’t picking up. So she just called her.
“You are so annoying! You don’t have a job anymore! What were you doing?!” The kitten screamed into the phone.
“I have a lot more time these days for that second gig,” Minji chuckled.
“Disgusting, did you shower?” Bora asked.
“I literally just finished… In more ways than one,” The bunny smirked. She heard the loud yowl before a hiss, causing the bunny to laugh. “Don’t hiss at me! It’s my only job now. But I made half my rent already, so I’m probably going to keep this up for a while…” She mumbled.
“Well, I was going to come over and hang out, but since you’ve recently ruined your own bed, or at least I hope your bed…” Bora mumbled.
“I’ll meet you,” Minji quickly said, forcing herself to sit up. “Just text me where,” She sighed.
“Alright! See you! Be clean!”
It didn’t take as long as Minji thought it would to clean herself off in the shower, what took the longest was drying her hair and keeping her ears clean. Once everything was done, it was only a little over an hour and she was almost ready to go. She chose basic clothes again, knowing that Bora would probably drag her around for a bit before anything. So she stuck with basic leggings and a light sweater.
She put the address in her maps, taking the bus all the way to the spot Bora wanted to meet up at. Different types of hybrids were on the bus with her, along with many humans, but it wasn’t that bad. She kept to herself and got off at her stop, walking down the street to the shop Bora texted her.
She heard a few wolf whistles from annoying puppy hybrids, causing her to roll her eyes at their remarks. She heard the shouting and barking, calling after her to give them the time of day, but she kept going, ignoring them.
“It’s about time you show up!” Bora groaned the second she saw the bunny walk into the shop. “I need another set of eyes,” She frowned.
“For what?” Minji asked.
“Yubin is going to take me on a vacation. I need some new clothes.” The kitten continued to walk toward a small shop.
“You have an entire bedroom full of clothes, why do you need more?” Minji frowned while following her.
“Because I want her eyes to be on me all vacation,” Bora smirked. “She’s seen me in everything, need to make sure she still wants me.”
The two went from shop to shop, each one looking more expensive than the last. Minji skimmed through the racks, her fingers finding the price tags, and felt her eyes almost fall out of her head. She had no idea how much money Yubin made, but she was certain it was way over what she ever imagined.
“I’m getting hungry…” Bora whined after purchasing another dress.
“Well, we did spend hours shopping…” Minji mumbled.
“You didn’t buy anything?” Bora tilted her head when she saw the bunny wasn’t holding any kind of shopping bag.
“Nothing caught my eye,” Minji lied. She saw a million things that caught her eye, she just couldn’t afford them. The fact that a simple small shirt cost three months of rent was beyond her.
“Mm… Too bad. Let’s get a bite.”
The kitten dragged her to a cafe, one that Minji had vaguely remembered. Until she saw the same puppy.
“Bora!” The puppy hybrid smiled.
“Hey Yooh!” the kitten smiled. “Looks a little slow today, hope you’re not working too hard,” She pouted.
“Just keeping the place clean, making drinks every now and then…” The puppy shrugged. “What can I get you?”
The two ordered their drinks and sandwiches before moving to a small table. Minji looked around, seeing everything that surrounded them.
The walls were bright white, the tables too clean, and everything about it screamed stupid rich. She glanced at the menu, seeing how overpriced everything was, and felt a knot form in her stomach. All of the humans mingling with hybrids… She saw the types they were, all different types of rich. She hated it. Hated how everything screamed shiny and expensive.
“You okay?” Bora frowned.
“Just not in my element I guess,” Minji shrugged.
“I know you aren’t used to this… But you could be… You have the looks, the confidence… You really could blend well in this,” The kitten explained quietly. “You’ll make more than enough money and no one would even dare ask you what it’s from,” She whispered.
“Yeah, because they’ll know that I got rich from being a stupid sex icon,” the bunny glared.
“And what’s so bad about that? Minji, own that shit. You can’t keep hiding in the shadow of that forever…”
“Can we stop talking about it?” Minji sighed.
The two watched the staff behind the counter, watching them chat while making a few things for the others that walked in. Minji watched the same puppy hybrid walk out with a tray, walking over to the table across the cafe, only to be tripped by an obnoxious dog hybrid. She heard the loud laughter and howling, watching the puppy hybrid stumble and spill most of the drinks on her tray, herself, and the floor.
“I hate how they treat her here,” Bora sighed.
“Is that normal?” Minji frowned.
“Yeah, they can smell poor hybrids from a mile away.” She frowned.
“What do poor hybrids smell like?”
“It’s different for everyone,” The kitten explained. “Yooh smells like… Like concrete most of the time, but she does mask it well with this wonderful perfume, but you can still smell it,” She shrugged. “Expensive hybrids smell different,” She shrugged.
“So I smell different to you then,” Minji muttered.
“You smell like hay honestly…” Bora scrunched up her nose, glancing at her best friend. “But you’ve always smelled like that,” She shrugged.
Minji nodded her head, happy that she had a scent she couldn’t get rid of. A scent that screamed poor to other hybrids.
“Hey! There’s a giant mess here!”
Both hybrids glanced over, frowning at the sight of the others pointing out the obvious mess that was made by them.
“Just go home… We’ll take care of it from here.”
Minji saw the tears in the puppy’s eyes, and she knew that feeling. She knew the feeling well.
“I can handle it…” the puppy whispered.
“You’re going to smell like milk and coffee, just go home Yoohyeon.”
The bunny frowned at the sight, watching her walk into the back. She felt a horrible drop in her stomach and it made her want to yell at the idiots who made her that upset. She look down at the still-wrapped sandwich and coffee in front of her, and she shook her head.
“Look… Thanks for the coffee… And sandwich, but I think I’m just going to head back home… i have a headache,” the bunny frowned while getting up.
“You’re just going to leave me here?” Bora frowned.
“Sorry,” Minji sighed.
She walked out of the cafe, found the bus stop, and sat on the bench. She didn’t understand how the world could still be so cruel toward them. They were kind of human, and still contributed to society so why treat them differently…
The same puppy hybrid sat on the bench with her, causing the bunny to glance over at her.
“Hey… That… I’m sorry they treated you like that,” Minji mumbled.
“Oh… It’s fine… It happens,” The puppy shrugged her shoulders, looking up at the other hybrid. “You don’t have to show… Sympathy…” She frowned.
“But it’s wrong of them to act like that toward you…” Minji frowned.
“Look, I don’t need some sympathy from a human,” The puppy sighed.
“Human?” Minji glanced at her, causing the puppy to nod her head. “I’m… Not a human…” Minji chuckled.
“You’re not?”
“No,” Minji laughed before letting her ears stand up.
“Oh!” The puppy’s ears perked up, and Minji was in awe at how well her ears blended with her hair. “You hide like me!” She smiled.
“You want to look human?” Minji laughed.
“Kind of … Easier to pretend to be human than suffer at being a hybrid,” She explained. “You get it,” She whispered.
“I do… I really do,” Minji smiled.
