Chapter 5:
The first day of school

Megumi once again had this dream or rather a horrible memory of his sister Tsumiki's death. In a week it will be exactly the day of her death...
The first day of school started strangely, Megumi woke up to his father's voice.
"Get up, it's time to get up" Gojo said while trying to shake Megumi off the blanket
Megumi finally let himself open his eyes and see his father's face.
"Are you still mad at me?" Gojo spoke calmly
Megumi realized how much his adoptive father cared for him and how this concern grew after Tsumiki.
Megumi never understood what pushed the 19-year-old police trainee to adopt 2 children aged 6 and 5, but here they are 10 years ahead.
He didn't really remember his life before Gojo. He knew Tsumiki wasn't his biological sister but that didn't change their sibling relationship. He did know that his biological father married Tsumiki's mother before they both abandoned them. And he knew his biological father was a bad man but Gojo never told him exactly what he did. But he knew why his biological father abandoned him...it was because of him, because he was born his mother died and he knew it broke his soul and he blamed it on Megumi.
The boy almost forgot his adoptive father's question
"No, sorry I attacked you yesterday it wasn't right" Megumi couldn't look Gojo in the eyes
"It's...it's okay, it's just that I just want you to be okay" Gojo sat down in bed, next to Megumi
He wasn't wearing his sunglasses it was just him with his tired blue eyes, Megumi knew that it was always hard for Gojo to fall asleep since he was a child.
"You know you don't have to go to school today"
"No it's okay, I'm just worried about Maki she doesn't text me back" Megumi was really worried
"From what I understand she will be staying at your friend Nobara's house for a few days until her parents return, but these bastards said they won't make it to the funeral"
Megumi rarely saw his father angry but this was still strange. He knew he didn't like Zennin, because it turns out his biological father was the brother of Maki and Mai's father, and after Gojo started the adoption process they interfered, but Megumi knew they just wanted the money registered in his name, because Megumi's biological father was the heir He was supposed to inherit all the assets of the Zenin family, a very rich family, and Megumi didn't really understand that but Gojo told him that he was now the heir of the Zenin family, and when he was 18 years old all the assets would pass to him. Maki and May didn't care about it and they didn't hate him like their parents did.
"Are you sure you want to go to school today? I'm sure your teachers will understand" Gojo spoke bringing Megumi out of his thoughts

"Well get ready and I'll drive you to school" Gojo spoke
"No it's fine Yuji will drive me there"
"Well I have to go to the station call if something happens" Gojo got up from the bed
"Yes of course"
"Bye"
"Bye"
Gojo before leaving the room looked at Megumi worriedly but eventually walked out.
After half an hour Yuji Itudori appeared in front of Megumi's house
"Well are you ready for the first day of school?" Yuuji asked with excitement to match
"Yeah I guess, say did you hear anything from Nobara? About Maki?" Megumi asked his boyfriend
"She said they won't come to school today" is what he answered
"Are you ok?, I mean about Tsumiki she was also stabbed to death like Mai" Yujo asked then fell silent as if regretting asking the question
"I don't know but we have to move on." Megumi said in a sad voice
"Well let's get the depressing energy out and listen to songs, what songs do you want?"
"Please don't put on your nerd songs" a mysterious voice behind them
"Ahhhh!!! Sukuna! How long were you there?" Yuji yelled
"Don't you remember? I came here before and you wanted to drive to show how cool you are to your boyfriend" Sukune smiled teasingly
"Why are you even here, aren't you usually a breeze from the first few days?" Yuuji yelled back at his older brother
"Didn't you hear? They are questioning all the students today about what happened yesterday"
"really?" Megumi erupted
"Yeah, I'm surprised you don't know about it, aren't Gojo in the police?"
"Yeah...I guess he just forgot to tell me" Megumi said
"Well here we are" Yuji said to the two
At the school there were at least 3 police cars none of which belonged to Gojo, Megumi also noticed that there were reporters everywhere, and he also noticed one reporter who looked really familiar to him, he had long black hair and he gathered it in a ponytail.
"There you are" a voice from outside startled the three
Megumi looked out and saw their friend Panda (don't ask he just prefers to call him that)
"What the hell is going on here?" Yuji asked Panda
"Do you know what happened yesterday?"
The three of them got out of the car and stood in front of Panda
"Yes those two girls were murdered yesterday" Sukune spoke
"The police believe it's one of us" Panda spoke
"Why do they think it's one of us?" Yuji snapped
"Because the killer was wearing a fucking ghost mask, they found it on May's house security cameras"
"And they think it's one of us because?" Megumi asked
"They think only students would be dumb enough to do that" Panda said shrugging his shoulders
"Alright losers I'm going out of here stay out of trouble" Sokuna walked away towards his group
"How cool is this, we're like in a horror movie" Panda said excitedly, Panda was known to be a huge movie nerd
"How cool is that? Someone just died" Megumi quickly said to Panda
"Sorry, it's just that it's almost like the plot of "The Scream"
"What's the scream?" Megumi asks
"There's no way you don't know what these movies are" Panda spoke quickly in disbelief
"Is this the movie where the masked killer calls this girl and asks her three questions and if she doesn't answer correctly he kills her?" Yuji asked and Panda confirmed
Megumi thought it was a bit odd that Yuuji described this scene specifically but let it go
"Yo! Megumi, Yuji Panda" a voice appeared from behind
"Oh hey Yuta, Toga" Panda greeted the two back
"What's going on here, why are there so many reporters and police?" Yuta asked
"Why really?" Toga sign in sign language
"Didn't you hear? Mai Zenin and Momo were murdered yesterday" Panda said
"What?!!! But just yesterday we saw her at this party" Yuta shouted
"Yes it happened at about 10 at night" Megumi spoke for the first time since the conversation with two started
"How did you guys not know about this? There were about a million messages about it" Yuji spoke
"Yes...we were a bit busy" Yuta said and turned really red, Megumi didn't want to know what "busy" was
"Maki isn't your best friend? Call her and ask how she's doing" Panda spoke
"Right! Maki! Where is she? Is she okay? Is she hurt?" Anxiety returned to Yuta
"She's fine, she stayed at Nobara's for a few days and she won't come to school today" Magumi spoke
"Well see you later I have to call Maki" Yuta said and walked away with Toga
"Well I have to make it to my class, my father Yaga will really kill me if I'm late" Panda also walked away leaving Megumi and Yuuji there alone
"It must suck to be the son of the headmaster of the school" Yuji said
"yeah i guess"
"Well what class do you have now?" Yuji asked
"Math, what do you have?
"Chemistry" Yuji said looking disappointed
"Attention students, we are canceling today's first lesson for a meeting regarding what happened yesterday and to support the families of the victims, please proceed to the auditorium" Principal Yaga's voice was heard over the public address system
"Well I guess we'll go in?" Yuji asked his boyfriend
"Yeah I guess.
"Nobara:
She woke up earlier than she expected and she saw that Maki was already awake
"Hey how are you?" Nobara gently asked her girlfriend
Maki hadn't changed her clothes since yesterday and her hair was all messed up, under normal circumstances she would have told her she found it hot but she wouldn't say that
"Like shit" Maki looked Nobara in the eye
"I called my parents and they said they won't come to the funeral because of their business trip, they don't miss Mai at all, they always wanted to get rid of us, they always hated me and Mai" Maki said angrily
"That's not true, I'm sure they're not that bad" Nobara wasn't sure of her words
"You don't know that, they always hated me especially, they somehow tolerated Mai because she did what they told her, but they always hated me because I'm rebellious, they even almost ruined Megumi's life because we are related"
Nobara just stood up and hugged Maki
"We can stay home today and eat ice cream" Nobara said to the green-haired girl
"Please, I can't stand all these pitying faces from the other students"
They both saw Nobara's mom's message on the fridge that she had to go to work early and that they could stay home today
They stayed on the sofa and ate chocolate ice cream and watched a movie to pass the time,
Maki told her how the funeral would be tomorrow at noon because the police still had to take the evidence, and how the family fortune would cover the funeral.
"Who do you think will come to the funeral?" Maki broke the silence
"Well I guess our friends and part of the town, we are a small town after all" Nobara spoke back
They were interrupted by the sound of Maki's phone ringing, Maki already feeling better answered the phone
Yuta: OMG Maki are you ok? I just heard
Maki: Yes, I'm fine
They talked a little
Maki: Well see you tomorrow
Yuta: Call me for anything you need, if you need a listening ear I'm here
Maki: Bye
Yuta: Bye
Maki put the phone down and went back to the couch to the worried Nobara
"you are fine?" her girlfriend asked
"Yes, I think I am."
