lone star

Enid is extremely aware of the fact that she is almost all-powerful.

Sure some gods would argue that they are all equal in power but she knows the truth.

Some gods who rule over things like fire and earthquakes might come close to her, but what is a raging fire in the face of an infinite unwavering cosmos? She’d be happy to answer that for you. It’s nothing.

Fire is nothing, water is nothing, the air is nothing and the earth is nothing compared to her.

She is infinity embodied.

And honestly, her attitude is probably why the amount of worship she’s gotten over the years has plummeted.

It’s not her fault that humans forgot how to respect their betters. Like honestly, who do they think they are?

She gives them the moon every night and sculpts their constellations, what more could they want from her? Poets fawn over the things she’s created. They sing sonnets about the moon, write poems about space and make temples to track her stars.

And how do they thank her?

Some moldy bread they dug out of the back of their pantry? Rotten fruit from an old termite-infested tree?

Some of them would polish her temples and statues and she made sure to reward them properly.

She gave her blessed the ability to collapse entire buildings, hell even mountains if they wanted.

One time one of her blessed had the ability to call down meteorites from orbit.

Sadly most of her blessed were ungrateful, spoiled, and lazy.

They had taken the abilities that she so kindly gifted them for granted, so she had to punish them.

She had to take her powers back one by one.

Most people will never have to know what that feels like, but it feels like your soul is being rearranged, and in a way it is. To give a blessing a god will share a small part of their soul with yours and usually that part will combine with yours and eventually go back to the god after you’ve died.

So when a god needs to take that part back, they pretty much split your soul into pieces and look for the part that belongs to them.

The process can sometimes take days and that’s just the time it takes to find the piece. It might take even longer to extract it.

So did Enid develop a bit of a negative reputation for taking her blessings back?

Yes.

And nobody wants to worship a god who is also a total asshat.

A lack of worship can limit a god's abilities and lower their power over time. It does take a while but eventually, it will happen.

It was a safety feature created by the head god to make sure gods couldn’t mistreat mortals without consequence.

And sadly, Enid’s power had been fading for a long time now.

If this kept happening she might eventually become a powerless god and be forced to pass on her position to some non-deserving newbie.

So she needed to get some worship fast.

But she was far too proud to go groveling back to those disrespectful mortals.

She needed to find a different source of worship.

Something that was just as strong.

“Hey, Enid me and Divina are engaged!”

“Yoko stop making up words.”

You could say that Enid found exactly what she was looking for and now years later she was the one bragging to her best friend.

Yoko was having a nice peaceful evening at home with her beautiful wife. Her void was so peaceful and quiet. Nothing could interrupt this lovely moment.

“Yokoooooooooooooooooo! It worked I’m married now!”

Well goodbye tranquility.

The dark-haired girl turned away from her wife to look at her friend.

“Enid, what the fuck are you talking about?”

The blond giggled and started to bounce up and down in excitement.

“Remember that thing I told you about a while ago? About that village in the mountains? And the girl? The really pretty one with the braids? And the smile with the dimples. And the suuuuper cute eyes.”

The Goddess of medicine looked at her friend in shock.

“You didn’t.”

“I did.”

The blond replied in a sing-song voice.

Enid paused in confusion as she watched her friend run her hands down her face.

“Enid we talked about this, I know you haven’t been a human for a long, long time so you probably forgot. But they have feelings! You can’t just torment them for fun.”

The moon goddess shook her head frantically.

“No, it’s not like that Yoko! She’s like totally in love with me.”

“Enid I can’t help you if you lie to me.”

“I’m not lying! I didn’t have to go through with the actual plan. She took one look at me and was all like Oh Enid you’re so hot and all-powerful and stuff please marry me.”

Yoko truly hated her life.

“And then I was like wow how could I say no to such a pretty mortal and I’ll like totally save your people out of the kindness of my heart.”

So what if Enid was lying? What Yoko didn’t know wouldn’t hurt her.

And it’s not like she’ll ever meet Wednesday anyways.

“So when do we get to meet her?”

Fuck.

“Sorry, what was that?”

“Well, it’s not every day one of us gets married, especially not to a mortal, so we want to meet her.”

Double fuck.

“Well, I need to like check with the other gods first. And I promised her that I’d save her village and her people and all that so I should probably do that first.”

Yoko put a hand on her shoulder, successfully cutting off her rant.

“Enid I didn’t say bring her by today or anything.”

Oh, thank god, crisis avoided-

“Just bring her by tomorrow, one day should be enough for an all-powerful god like you to help that village right? And you don’t even have to worry about checking with the others I’ll take care of it.”

She knew what Yoko was doing, and she wasn’t going to fall for it.

“Unless you’re not all-powerful? Or is your lack of worship finally getting to you?”

Enid could feel her eyes flash black.

“I am Enid Sin-”

Never again

I am Enid, goddess of the cosmos, sculptor of the stars, and creator of comets of course I can have that village fixed in a day.”

Yoko let out a small chuckle.

“I’m just fucking with you E, you don’t need to use your god voice on me. Well, you should probably get going.”

“Why?”

“It’s the night after your wedding buddy. Surely you want to go spend it with your devoted wife and not with your best friend.”

Enid blinked slowly.

“Is it required to spend your wedding night with your spouse?”

“Enid it almost sounds like you don’t love this girl.”

“No no no nooooooo that’s totally not it. I just don’t know how her family is going to react and I’m pretty sure that they live in a dirt hut and I don’t know if I’m comfortable-”
“Enid you’re ranting again.”

“Oh sorry Yoko.”

The other goddess let out a small sigh.

“Enid just bring her to your room.”

She was completely backed into a corner.

“That’s a great idea bestie!”

Suddenly at the Addams' residence, a bright light shined through their windows.

Gomez and Morticia, who had been comforting their daughter all day, went to investigate only to have their door slammed open.

“Hey in-laws I’m here to take Wednesday to my place for our wedding night.”

“Yoko?”

“Yes, darling?”

“Next time you exclude me from a conversation like that in our own house I’ll turn you into a fish.”

“That is acceptable my love.”
