Chapter 3
November 24, 2019
Peter smiled at his apartment. It was perfect. He had a second bedroom to turn into a little greenhouse, and maybe a distilling room. That would be awesome. He could put together all his potions and tinctures, then sell them at his shop around the corner. This was going to be an amazing place to live.
Since everything was here, it was time for him to start unpacking. Peter started in the bedroom, setting up his bed and then unpacking his clothing into the dresser. He wanted to get everything else done first, so he could set up the greenhouse. That was the part he was most excited about and he knew he could get lost there for hours.
Having finished with everything except hanging some decorations, he put his hand on the doorknob of the second bedroom. Then, there was a knock at the main door. As much as he wanted to ignore it, he had better manners than that. He sighed and then turned around to open the door.
Someone was bringing him a gift. He had the impression of dark hair before his attention was taken by the open top wooden box. “Heya, Neighbor. I just thought I’d drop off a housewarming gift. The cookies were made by a friend of mine, you wouldn’t want any I baked for you, and the wine is a decent year.”
Peter smiled as he stared. "Thank you. This is wonderful." As he was handed the box, he felt a small tingle. Probably just static electricity. Then, he stepped inside and set the box down, but the man stepped in with him. "This is something near and dear to my heart that I wanted you to have."
It was the ugliest taxidermied squirrel he'd ever seen in his life. Peter accepted it with an internal look of disgust. "Well it's certainly.. Something." He couldn't lie, so he couldn't tell him it was lovely. It certainly was not lovely, not in any way shape or form. Thankfully, he was able to set it down as he grabbed the gift box again.
There was the sound of the door closing, and then he emptied the box of wine and cookies. They smelled wonderful, but mostly he wanted the wine. It had been a hard day, moving everything and then unpacking a whole apartment. He poured himself a glass and then went into the living room. "Now how am I going to turn this place into a greenhouse?" Maybe he could put flower beds inside along all the walls? He didn't want to live without them, but he also needed to utilize all the space he had. It was only a one bedroom apartment, after all. The location was too perfect for him to pass it up, even if he'd really wanted a two bedroom. Oh, well. He'd make the best of it.
