Chapter 4

Wednesday had dozed off, it had been a rather eventful 24 hours. Nevermore was only about 12 hours from San Francisco. When she opened her eyes, she was just barely entering the city. She saw lots of bright lights and people. It was starting to get darker, but that didn't affect how lively it looked. Wednesday looked out the rolled down window, hair in the wind. She began thinking about all the places Enid had probably been. She wish she got to visit the city under better circumstances. She wanted Enid to show her everything, to reach into her core memories and share them with her. Where did she go to school as a child, where did she get her typical morning cup of coffee, where was her favorite place in the city? She wanted to know everything. It was a cloudier night. She had only seen just a bit of it, but she decided it was a place she could actually grow to like.

"Are we heading to the Sinclair's estate?" Wednesday said, rubbing her eyes. "Not yet, we are waiting to hear back from the police department about the status from when the police went to search the area. Once we hear back, we can head over. I'm guessing we will hear back in the morning." Weems said. She didn't really want to wait, but it did make sense to hear from the police first, seeing as they are on our side. Plus it would be beneficial to share information. "Thank you for helping me, I haven't officially given you the credit you deserve. I couldn't save her without you." Weems just looked at her and smiled. "No need to thank me dear, but just answer me one thing. Is there.... anything going on between you and Enid." Wednesday looked at her with a shocked expression. "What makes you think that?" Her voice cracked as she quickly replied. "Well it's just that you're putting a lot of effort getting her back. I know you love a good investigation, but I can't really imagine you putting this amount of effort into another person. Also.. yesterday you mentioned her being 'back in your arms'. I hope you know you can tell me. I could even give you.. I don't know.. Advice?" Wednesday wasn't sure what to reply. I mean, Weems was being very helpful in getting her back, and she did owe her a favor by doing all this. " I have had some non friendly emotion towards her, yes." That's a definite understatement for what the raven actually felt. "I might even dare to say romantic emotion. But I'm unsure if she would ever reciprocate the feeling." The older girl chuckled under her breath. "I knew it. You know.. I didn't completely pair you two at random. I was hoping you two would become great friends.. perhaps even a little more. Just wishful thinking. Looks like I was right, opposites do attract after all." " I could never tell her this though. If she didn't feel the same, I couldn't bare to look at her again." "Honey, everyone knows she feels the same. I was skeptical if you were into her, clearly I now have my answer. Don't be afraid. Once we get her back, tell her exactly how she makes you feel." Wednesday hated talking about her feelings. This was getting too much and she needed to shut it down so she just nodded in response. Of course, she was correct. Wednesday wasn't typically a romantic, but that's what Enid deserved. She would tell her everything the wolf makes her feel. Bliss, pleasure, safety, trust, euphoria, excitement, ecstasy.

The girls pulled up to a dark, miniature castle style house in the northern part of San Francisco. This was the work of Wednesday's parents. Almost immediately after entering, they both slammed into bed. Enid was the last thought on her mind. She was itching to tell the girl that she - well that she loved her. That was the first time Wednesday thought about it. The L word. But its the only word that could possibly come close to what the wolf does to her. She loves her, Loves her. That sounds right. She couldn't wait to get the girl back in her arms and tell her just that over and over and over until her ears would bleed. She needed to know that Wednesday's heart belonged completely to her. Hers only and forever.

"FUCK" Wednesday shouted as she jumped out of bed. She overslept. No no no NO. Any moment wasted was a moment that went by where her girl wasn't safe. She ran into The principles room and shook her awake. "FUCK" Weems shouted. "Have the police tried contacting you?? Did we miss any calls?? Have they found out anything yet??" Wednesday was frantic. She needed to know exactly what was going on right now. "I'm going to call right now." The older woman said as she was searching for her phone. She found it under one of the blankets and began scrolling through the notifications. She began dialing a phone number. Wednesday didn't really want to know how many calls or texts or information they missed. It would make her feel sick. She watched as the principle lifted the phone to her ear and began talking. It was mostly just a lot of yes, no, yes, yes, yes she's with me, and things like that. Weems actually sounded relieved, which filled Wednesday with hope. "The police just returned back from the search 30 minutes ago, so we didn't miss much. They have Enid." The words made Wednesday drop to her knees. She was safe, Wednesday was going to start a new life with her love. She had never felt such relief in her entire life. "However, she is in critical condition. She's about to undergo surgery. She was found with other woman who are also in critical condition. Everyone in the household is being taken into custody." Weems hesitated for a moment, " Well, everyone except Esther.. she managed to escape. The FBI have decided to get involved. We are going to find her." She felt herself slowly grow livid, but then a smile overtook her face. She would track her to the ends of the earth. She was going to kill her, that was for certain. But that wasn't the most important thing on her mind. Enid was okay.. and she was going to see her. "We need to go to the hospital right now." Wednesday said. Both girls hopped into the car, still wearing what they were wearing the previous day, except Wednesday was clutching Enid's pink sweater that she had brought with her. She figured the girl would want it.

"She's still in surgery.. I'm sorry but you wont be able to see her for at least 10 hours. She isn't stable and she will need to rest before visitors." The words infuriated Wednesday. How could they deny her access to her girl. "It's alright Wednesday. Let's get some food while we wait. It will only do her harm if we try and argue or threaten the people who are taking care of her at the moment." Weems was right. And Wednesday was starving. She hadn't eaten since yesterday. They decided to head down to the cafeteria. Wednesday got a burrito and Weems got a burger. They both ate in silence, lost in thought. Wednesday could feel her soul light up. She was so happy that they had found the girl, but she also ached when she remembered that she would have to ask what happened. She was staring off at the wall. Then suddenly a loud noise filled the room. The sound normally was music to the goths ears, but not this time. Gunshots. Everyone in the cafeteria got up and crouched in a corner, and Weems and the girl followed. They all piled in the corner as they heard three more gunshots. Then suddenly, SWAT swarmed through the door and forced their way through the cafeteria. They looked at everyone in the corner, then quickly searched everywhere else in the room. "Clear." She heard one of the solider say, and the rest of the heavily armed men retreated. In that moment, she knew exactly what happened. Esther fucking Sinclair was in the hospital. She was in the same hospital Enid was. Wednesday knew if she was going to kill her, it had to be now. She didn't care if it was in front of the entire world. She was going to protect and avenge her future wife from the same girls own mother.
