Thor II
'How' he wondered, 'how did everything fall apart so fast?'. Siting on Loki's bed, Thor with glassy eyes observed the empty room. All personal belongings were gone, only the future remained. No indication that his brother had ever lived here. If anyone had entered the room not knowing it was Loki's they would have thought it a room for guests, not his little brother's. This lack of personal belongings is what made him realize that his brother may truly never come back. If Loki had left even one of his books Thor might have had more hope, but now seeing the bookshelves which had once been so bursting with books that Loki had started piling them on the couch, empty filled Thor with nothing but dread.
Tears started dripping down Thor's face. This was all his fault, he should never had gone to Jotunheim. If he hadn't then his brother never would have found out he was Jotun and and....No. Rage started filling Thor as thoughts started to race through his mind. 'If I had know that Loki was Jotun I never would have gone to Jotunheim, I never would have thought them monsters. Yet I had because that was what everyone had believed, still believed. OH NORNS what must have gone through Loki's mind when he realized that he was the same species as the monsters from our bedtime stories!'. The rage drained away as Thor felt sick. Loki had been terrified of the Jotuns as a child, often sneaking into Thor's bed because he was afraid they would come and eat him while he slept. Thor started cursing all the nursemaids they had as child as the rage came back.
But it wasn't just the nursemaids fault, their father had never said anything when people called the Jotuns monsters. Their mother at least would often glare or remind the person who called them monsters that they were a people just as the Asgardians were. Thor had never understood why their mother would say that in the past when everyone else agreed they were monsters, but now it all made so much painful sense. However in spite of that she had still kept the secret all the same, and how DARE they keep this secret from Loki and him! How DARE they let Loki and him believe the Jotun's were monsters when HIS brother was one! Seething Thor stood up and paced. There had to be something he could do! If he could just find Loki he could apologize for everything he had ever said about the Jotuns and tell his brother that him being one didn't matter and that there wasn't anything wrong with being Jotun! That Loki was still his brother and always would be no matter what.
But...
He couldn't find him. His Father couldn't find him. His mother with her magic couldn't find him. Heimdall with his all seeing gaze couldn't find him. Thor had never felt his hopeless before, not even when he had been banished on Midgard. He wanted his brother back...but he feared he never would...
Thor slammed the book closed in anger and slid it across the library table with all the other books he had read, if Loki say this be be horrified to see books treated in such a way, as well as shocked to see Thor in the library READING. A snort escaped Thor as he imagined the look on his brothers face if he saw him now, though the feeling of amusement quickly faded away as frustration took its place. Not a single book in the palace library had given him information about the Jotuns or Jotunheim. The closest he could find was only about the Asgard-Jotunheim war, and now knowing what he did he realized how much information was missing about the Jotuns side of the war. For instance the number of Asgardians killed in the battle was well recorded, but not the number of Jotuns. Nor did the books say where the battles on Jotunheim took place. Thor knew from his father's stories that the final battle took place in Utgard, where the palace of Jotunheim was located. Having always been interested in battles and wars, Thor knew that the battlefield could not have started in Utgard. Nay he knew that the Jotuns had been pushed back to Utgard, so how many villages had the war been fought in? How many innocent families had lost their lives just because they had been born in Jotunheim? Had Asgardians thought of Jotuns as monsters before or during the war? Had Asgardian warriors killed any how could not fight just because they believed them monsters? Had children been killed because Asgardians only saw them as monsters? Before Thor's thoughts could spiral down more along these thoughts a hand slapped him on the back startling the breath out of him.
"Thor! There you are we've been looking everywhere for you!" Volstagg exclaimed in a loud voice that had Loki been there would have gotten him shoved out of the library.
"Really Thor what are you even doing in here?" Fandral asked confused while Hogun just glanced around the room.
"I'm..." Thor had no idea what to say. How would his friends react if he told them the truth? That he wanted to learn more about the Jotun because Loki was one. Would they care if Loki was Jotun? It shouldn't matter to them, they were Loki's friends too after all. However Thor couldn't help but remember all the things they had said about the Jotun and how they like him had thought the Jotun monsters. What if even though they were Loki's friends they still thought of him as a monster?
"Thor? You ok? I think you should leave the reading to others cause your looking quite pale." Volstagg said in concern, the other two also looking at Thor in worry.
Pushing down the unease he felt Thor smile at his friends "I am fine, I just have a lot on my mine is all."
The warriors three all exchanged a look before Fandral's face burst into a big smile, "Well I know just what to do to help you clear your mind a bit!" Grabbing Thor's arm Fandral started pulling him away from the table and towards the library door "What you need is a bit of fun! The training area shouldn't be too busy right now so its a good time for some sparing yes? Then after we can all head down to the pub and have some drinks while chatting up the ladies there."
With Fandral leading him, and Volstagg and Hogun on either side of him Thor forced himself to follow with one last sad and angry glance at the pile of books. Maybe some sparing would help him think on what to do next....
