Chapter 1

"Let me go!"

Steve glared at his captor who smiled lazily back, not a care in the world. He had half the mind to punch the guy in the face if his arms weren't chained above his head.

He wasn't sure what metal it was that the chained were made of but apparently it wad strong enough to hold him. His wrists were slowly bruising by how much he had pulled at them. He sat with his back to the wall so he could keep an eye on the brunette who was fiddling with a machine piece in his hand.

"No, I don't think I will," Tony Stark replied, smirking now as he set the machine piece aside. "You're my bait."

Steve silently seethed. He wasn't anyone's bait. He was his own damn person. "They won't fall for it. They know you too well to know what you're planning. They won't come here themselves."

Tony smirked at this, tapping away at the control panels in front of him. The thin shirt he wore didn't hide the circle of light shining through the material. No one knew how the villain had acquired what they knew now to be a miniature arc reactor embedded in the man's chest nor why it was there but almost everyone knew he was fiercely protective of it.

"Really?" Stark asked with mock sincerity as he glanced over at a security monitor among the hundreds of others. "Then who is that knocking at my door?"

Steve grimaced, looking at the monitor and saw it was Thor. Of course it was Thor, the biggest pushover they had. No offense to him or anything but if he can relent to Loki after him attacking New York then obviously he doesn't have a will of steel.

Stark pressed a button. "Hello out there. How may I be of assistance?"

Thor on the monitor looked around confused before his voice came through a speaker. "Is thee invisible? Show yourself!"

Steve mentally facepalmed as Stark snorted. "I'm afraid I'm not, big guy. I'm talking through a speaker. Sort of like a phone."

Thor seemed to understand this, thankfully. It would have been a lot more difficult if he hadn't. "I see. I came to inquire about my friend, Steven?"

"Oh?" Tony asked, glancing over at Steve with a grin. Steve glared back. "What about him?"

"My friends and I have knowledge to believe you may have taken him," Thor explained, almost sounding slightly apologetic for some reason. "But if not then please take no offense to the accusation."

Stark looked as if he was trying his damn well hardest not to laugh and was clearly failing while Steve felt like banging his head against a wall. "I'm afraid I haven't seen him since the last failed plan of mine to take you all down."

"How disappointing," Thor said, looking downcast. "Though do not feel too badly. You were a worthy opponent in the last battle we engaged in!"

Tony smiled a little more at that. "I'll get you all next time. Perhaps ask Hydra about your Steven?" Steve blushed at the use of his full name on his enemies lips. "They have a thing for kidnapping."

Steve was surprised to hear the disgust in Stark's voice when he spoke of Hydra. Didn't he realize he was doing the same thing they do? Then again, Hydra normally tortures their victims. Stark hadn't hurt him...yet.

But there were more pressing issues at hand. Tony was telling Thor that he wasn't here and, knowing Thor, he'll probably believe it. He couldn't let his one chance of getting out of here slip away.

Steve took a deep breath, tugging hard at the chains as he leaned forward towards Stark in hope's that Thor would hear him. "Thor! Thor, it's Steve! I'm here! Stark has me chained up! Get the other's and—"

In a flash, Tony was in front of him, covering his mouth with a rough calloused hand that Steve had half the mind to bite into just to be an ass but it was too late for Tony. The damage was already done.

"Steven?" Thor called, looking rather worried about the sudden silence. "Steven, are you alright? We're coming to get you! Hang on my friend!"

Thor marched out of camera view, Steve wanting to sigh in relief.

Tony pulled his hand away, scowling deeply. "You shouldn't have done that."

"And what are you going to do about it?" Steve growled. He kicked out with his foot but Stark moved before it could make contact.

Tony didn't answer him, his eyes instead drifting up to the chains around Steve's wrists. Something in his expression changed, so quick that Steve almost missed it. It almost looked like...concern? But then that look of indifference was back so suddenly that Steve thought he perhaps had imagined it.

Stark stood up, Steve hating that he flinched back when he did but the villain didn't go for him, instead turning on his heel and walking back to the monitors.

Eventually, Steve was rescued of course. Clint had infiltrated the building's vents while Tony had been distracted by Steve causing a ruckus when the super soldier saw the archer trying to pry open an outside vent on one of the monitors that Tony hadn't noticed.

Steve had yelled and shouted, yanking on his chains to gain the man's attention but when he got it, he hadn't expected the words that came out the geniuses mouth.

They had shocked Steve, so much so that he had stopped pulling at the chains that made his wrists ache and bruise, staring uncomprehendingly at Tony who had flushed, glancing away and tried to make excuses for his words but none of it sounded convincing.

Clint had dropped down on Tony during that awkward moment, pushing the genius down onto his back and leveling his bow with an arrow drawn and aimed right at Tony's face.

After that, it had been simple. Natasha and Thor came in after Clint hitting a button on the control panels with his foot as he wasn't willing to lower his weapon. Thor had broken Steve's chains which apparently weren't indestructible to a god's strength. Natasha had cuffed Tony's hands behind his back and they'd all marched out of the abandoned warehouse that Steve had apparently been in.

Tony was handed over to Shield custody. Of course, he escaped a few days later. He always did. Shield never seemed to be able to contain Stark. He always outsmarted them and went back to causing the Avengers problems.

But still, Steve couldn't shake the words Tony had said to him. His wrists were healed by now, only having to have them bandaged for a couple days before his super fast healing rate healed them fully but whenever he thought of Tony which was more and more often these days, he couldn't help but think of those words.

'Please stop, you're hurting yourself.'

But why would Tony Stark, one of the most famous villains in the world, care if Steve was in pain?
