James POV

I’m left in the hallway quite confused. I know that Regulus was there. I saw him . I gave him the perfect opportunity to come back into Sirius’ life. It’s not like I don’t see the glances he sends Sirius across the great hall or the concerned looks he sends if Sirius gets hurt on the quidditch pitch. No matter what Sirius says, Regulus still cares. So why is Regulus pushing Sirius away.

“Nice of you to join us Mr. Potter,” Professor Flitwick says as I walk into the room but I barely hear him and I make my way towards Peter, Remus and Sirius.

“What’s wrong with you?” Sirius asks, nugging my arm with him.

“Nothing,” I try to shake off the feelings I have but Remus catches my gaze, giving me a questioning look. I just look away.

“I think I’m going to talk to Regulus,” Sirius announces and I almost fall out of my chair.

“What?”

“Mr. Potter, first you come to my class late and now you interrupt my class, would you like detention or just for me to take house points?” Flitwick asks and I can feel the eyes of my classmates on me.

“I’ll take the detention,” I mumble, eyes cast down. I lose enough house points as due to the marauders pranks might as well just take the detention. How bad could it be?

“Ah, I hear Slughorn needs help cleaning his classroom. The second year brewed something fierce today,” I groaned inwardly and Professor Flitwick's eyes gleamed, he knew what he was doing.

“Prongs what the hell?” Sirius asks, pulling him up from the floor.

“You can’t talk to him yet, Pads,” I cling to his hand.

“What but-“ he looks confused.

“I know. I know. He was there I promise. I know it was him.”

“Why do I sense a but?” Remus asks, sitting closer. Peters listens but is more scared of getting caught and getting detention.

“I tried to bring it up earlier and he completely acted like he didn’t know what I was talking about,” Remus sends a look, “I know Remus but I know he cares.”

“How are you so sure Prongs,” Sirius looks up at me with his puppy eyes that make you want to give into him.

“Because I see the way he looks at you. People don’t get worried over people they don’t care about. Maybe he’s scared to give him time. Everyone thinks we’re dating and I’m your best friend, you’re bound to have to talk at some point,” the truth is i don't know if Regulus will talk to Sirius. He's pushing his brother away for a reason and I can only hope to be a bridge between the two.

“I hope,” Sirius had tried contacting his brother when he first escaped. Regulus didn’t answer and came back from the break cole and harder than when he left. Soon it was everywhere, Sirius was disowned and Regulus was not the black heir.

Sirius tried to get Regulus to leave many times over the first couple months and Regulus burned every letter Sirius sent and headed home when he tried to talk in person. The brothers' relationship was a tricky one but perhaps this arrangement could fix things between them.

Just then the bell rings and we start packing stuff, “great i don’t even know what we’re doing.” Remus pouts as we walk out.

“Don’t worry Wormys got us, don't you,” Sirius throws his arm across Peter's shoulder.

“Honestly, you are helpless. am i the only one who paid any attention.”

“yes but don’t worry we’ll pay you back,” I promise thinking about the hogsmeade trip coming up.

“Yeah sure you will,” Peter rolls his eyes but looks pleased nonetheless.

“Is it hard because I really don’t have the brain capacity to handle this right now, the big quidditch map is this weekend,” Sirius complains.

“I'm not doing it for you Pads,” Remus says sighing, “Prongs has the same match and will get his done on his own.”

“But Moony, my wonderful boyfriend, the love of my life,” Sirius tries as they walk to the doa.

“Not happening black love you though,” he places a kiss on a serious cheek before setting stuff on his bed.

“ I’m sure your regulus would do James’ homework,” Sirius pouts and I snort.

“Sure he would.”

“Okay maybe not but still.”

“It’s no use Pads, I’ll give you the instructions and we can work on it together tonight,” Peter flops down on his bed.

“Hey, that's not fair, I have detention tonight and I don’t know what I’m doing.”

“Don’t worry Prongs you can copy mine,” Remus offers from his spot in his bed.

“Oi! So you’ll give Prongs your work but not me that’s betrayal,” Sirius places a hand over his heart.

“I give you much more, unless you want me to give that to James,” Remus raises an eyebrow and I take my chance.

“Why Remus I thought I’d never get the chance I long for you so-hey!” A pillow smacks me in the side of my head

“Go swoon after your own boyfriend.”

“Okay,” I smile slyly before darting out of the room.

“Hey! Get back here!” Sirius tries to stop me but I just laugh and keep going.

“Where are you going, Potter?” Mary asks as I reach the common room, she's sitting with Marleen and Lily by the fireplace.

“Oh,” I blush a little, “nowhere.”

“Probably off to see that new boy of his. I saw them in the hall earlier, they’re quite cute,” Marlene chipszx in

“Didn’t peg you for a pureblood snob,” Lily scoffs.

“I- what?” I am confused.

“Regulus Black, really Potter? You couldn’t have picked someone with purer blooded than that.”

“Oh it’s not like that Lily,” I protest, I don’t want her to think I cared about that stuff.

“Sure and he’s not a Slytherin and doesn’t hex muggleborns.”

“He doesn’t,” I snap suddenly defensive and her eyes are wide, “you don't even know him so before you pick on my boyfriend again, maybe learn a little about him.”

I don't even give her a chance to reply before I storm out of the common room. I stop to catch my breath. What the hell was that? Lily and I don’t fight and especially not over Slytherins.
