Regulus POV
I rounded the last corner and sprinted up the stairs taking two at a time, the door is slightly ajar which means I was correct at guessing that someone would be there tonight. Whoever it was had good taste. The Astronomy tower was by far the best place in the entire school. I take a deep breath praying to whatever god or deity looking down that may exist that it's someone decent before I blow out and open the door.
I stand there for a moment and just stare at the boy in front of me. I knew someone had come up here, the door was cracked and saw it as my perfect chance, but of course the gods hate me and my luck was the worst in all of existence. Sitting on the chair across from me staring with wide eyes was none other than James bloody Potter. For a second I thought about turning away, but the girl who loomed at the bottom of the staircase was far worse of a fate.
“Don’t say a word Potter,” I hissed as I stepped closer. To my surprise he didn’t just keep staring at me like I had three heads. I rolled my eyes and stood there contemplating my next move, my original plan seemed utterly pointless here, everyone knew that James was head over heels for Lily, but then again everyone also saw the very public rejection at dinner tonight, before I had time to properly come up with a plan I heard a shrill voice that made my blood turn cold.
“Reggie boo, where are you?” The voice was close, to close. Fuck it, I made a decision and braced myself before leaning down to catch James chin and turn it up to me. James' eyes widened.
“What are you-”
“I said not a word Potter,” I hissed before pulling his face to meet my mind in a fierce kiss, he stilled under me which I expected but then he leaned into the kiss moving his lips against my own as the door opened. At first I didn’t register the person behind me. The feeling of James' lips on mine was the same feeling of sunshine. Bright and warm and soft, god his lips were so soft.
“Oh!” A startled voice came from behind us that seemed to pull James out of a daze and he backed away blinking harshly, “I didn’t know you were already seeing someone Reg.”
“Well I am Greengrass,” I said coolly, “I told you in the common room I was meeting someone and you were still stupid enough to follow me and I don’t think my boyfriend here would appreciate the advances you tried on me tonight.”
“I’m sorry I truly didn’t know,” She looked frightened and about to cry, “I just know how our parents are and I just thought-”
“Well maybe you should stop thinking. Best run along before James gets angry,” I cringe inwardly at the use of James first name.
“Oh right of course, I’ll leave you too alone,” she rushes out closing the door behind her and I wait a minute before turning to face James.
When I see him his face is still pinched in confusion and he’s staring at the floor, “Look-” before I can get more than that out his eyes snap to mine.
“What the fuck Black?”
I sigh, and settle in the chair across from James, this was going to be a long conversation.
