Chapter 11
"Wanna try and get up and get breakfast now?" He suggested, voice softer than a wool coat.
"Oh yeah breakfast sounds pretty good just about now-" Sam paused. "I don't know if I'm willing to deal with the embarrassment of Sarah's looks though- she taunts me so damn much."
"If i had to endure it, you do too. Cmon, up!" He hopped out of the bed and hook Sams hand, urging him up gently.
Sam let out a huff of breath and nodded, walking out beside his boyfriend with his free hand shielding his face from Sarah's smug expression.
Bucky rolled his eyes with a light blush as he sat down at the counter. "Whadja make for breakfast?" He hummed, trying to look around her to the stove.
"Pancakes- they aren't as good as actual ones 'cause this came from the box." "Oh they better be the ones that at least use eggs in the recipe- the instant ones taste like sand paper." Sam cringed at the thought. Sarah rolled her eyes and nodded. "Yeah, they're the egg ones. Good lord you're picky."
Bucky snickered. "The 'sand paper' ones arent that bad. I grew up on em. Just add water, super simple. Especially in the Great Depression." He rambled. "Im sure these ones are practically gourmet for what il eat.”
"You sure ain't hard to please," Sam teased and Sarah rolled her eyes as she handed over two hearty stacks of pancakes. "Hey get off his back, at least somebody here is grateful." She teased. "Boys! Breakfast!"
AJ and Cass came running into the house, soaking wet. "What're we having?" AJ gasped, clearly out of breath from running around in the sprinklers. "Its 8 in the orning and y'all are in the sprinkler?" Bucky chuckled, though picked up the syrup and poured a heafty amount on the 5 pancakes he selected. The man had made himself at home, finally comfortable in such a domestic situation. He was welcomed with open arms, and every day they saw more of the Bucky Barnes he was before the war, before HYDRA, before everything. He would never be exactly the same, but the flirty, 'good with kids' man he was showed through his broody personality.
"Heck yeah we were!" Cass replied happily and Sarah gave her son a look. "What did I say about language?" She warned and both boys sighed. "Sorry ma," Cass mumbled, although he wasn't all that dejected. "But but- yeah we were out there, it's fun 'cause none of the other kids are up this early!" Hearing that, Sam laughed as he cut into his stack of pancakes. "At least you two have a good sleep schedule. Make sure not to mess it up when you become teens, trust me."
Bucky hummed in agreement but rolled his eyes. His heart clenched at the mention, knowing the both of them together struggled with sleeping due to nightmares. Buckys were ultimately worse, often waking up in 'winter soldier mode', or waking up screaming. Sam would always comfort him, never get angry when Bucky would put a hand around his throat, he trusted the man. He would wrap the super soldier in a hug, let him cry it out as he muttered small coo's and praises till they fell back asleep. Bucky would try to do the same, being a light sleeper as he woke up to any small movement the former Falcon made. He would coax the man to lay back down when he would jolt up, spoon him from behind and kiss the back of his neck, holding his hand and sqeezing occasionally to remind Sam he was still there.
"Il never understand how you kids have so much energy this early in the morning. Even I need coffee before im fully alive." He smirked, shaking his head before taking a large bite of pancake.
"Coffee taste like butt water!" AJ responded with a comedic and overly dramatic cringe that scrunched his face up. Cass giggled and rolled his eyes. "What, like bath water?" He joked and Sam cleared his throat, mouth half full. "I think you two nasty kids forget we're eating."
Bucky snorted and chuckled, eatibg another bite of pancake before standing up and rushing iver the counter. "Sarah, you eat. Il finish these for the boys." He begged, nudging Sarah aside as he grabbed the spatula from her hand.
"Boy, you better stop being husband material before Sam over here explodes-" Sarah laughed, giving un and grabbing herself a plate. Sam silently cursed his sister, being broken out of his dreamy stare in Buck's direction.
Bucky rolled his eyes but held a small smile, glancing up to Sam. He blushed when he met Sams eyes, sniling wider before lookingndown bashfully, flipping the pancakes.
"Frick you Sarah." Sam mumbled before continuing to pick at his food. He was mindful of his language around the kids, as always. Sarah just laughed before giving her sons a look. "Don't think about saying what Uncle Sam says, he has a stinky potty mouth."
"Uncle Buckys is worse!" Cass giggled, wheezing from how hard he laughed, causing AJ to join him. Buvky blushed and grimaced. "Rattibg me out..." He mumbled.
Sarah gave Bucky the same look he often gave the boys, although it was in a lighthearted manner. "Yeah Uncle Bucky," Sam teased, getting up from his seat once he finished his plate.
"Oh shut up." He whined, laughing, "Iike youre any better behind closed doors..." He mumbled, quiet enough for Sam, and maybe Sarah to hear.
Both siblings gave the Soldier a look, Sarah's being a cringe and a roll of her eyes while Sam's was more of an embarrassed scowl. "I heard him, Uncle Buck! Were you beating him up?" Cass asked innocently and Sam froze.
Buckys eyes widened and he coughed on the coffee he had sipped. "What? When did you hear- What?"
"Uhh- yeah, we were just wrestling- you should have been asleep." Sam seethed through his teeth in embarrassment, averting his eyes.
Bucky tried as hard as he could not to blush dark, to no avail. He couldnt help but snicker at the age old 'wrestling' excuse. "Yeah, we were wrestling. I won." He played along.
"Oh fu- ...frick off, I'm gonna win next time." Sam threatened, knowing only Bucky knew the connotation coming with that sentence.
"Id like to see you try." He smirked, head down as he flipped more pancakes, not daring to glance Sarahs way with how forward him and Sam were being.
Sarah looked between the two of them and groaned. "Okay okay enough 'wrestle' talk." She scolded and Sam rolled his eyes, although he was halfway thankful.
"Sorry, Sarah..." Bucky mumbled, finally glancing up at her with a blush. "Boys, come get your pancakes. You can go back outside when youre done." He told, sounding like a total dad.
Sam smirked seeing how the kids obeyed easily, getting and preparing their own plates before scampering off to the table. "You know, I think you're stealin' Sarah's kids from her," Sam teased.
"How so? Im litterally just giving em pancakes." He chuckled.
Sarah laughed and rolled her eyes to the ceiling jokingly. "It would've taken me threatening to take their Xbox for them to come to the table and eat." She hummed.
"Im just the cool uncle." He shrugged, a smile on his face as he shoved a plate of pancakes towards the two boys. "Yeah! uncle Sam is boring!" AJ laughed.
"I- oh wow, looks like I ain't the favorite anymore." Sam laughed, pulling a fake, dramatic pout in his boyfriend's direction.
Bucky pouted back teasingly, leaning over to kiss his cheek. Bucky was happy, completely relaxed. It was rare, even on his good days he was still on edge. But he was a totally different person that morning.
Sam grinned against the kiss to his cheek, his eyes closing happily for a moment. He was so proud of how far the man had come in so many ways, especially of how he was no longer afraid to be public with his affection.
