Chapter 5

Bucky was clueless as he changed in the bathroom, walkibg out in the too-tight tanktop and the tigh skinny jeans. Woukd he ever get clothes that actually fit him? What happened to the comfy jeans back when he was on the run in Romania? He smiled to Sam and walked out, calling out to the boys as he ledt Sam to finish gettibg ready.

Alright shut the fuck up, brain. Sam scolded himself mentally, trying to at least keep his eyes stuck on Bucky's upper half and no lower. He felt extreme shame for feeling the way he did so early on and shook his thoughts away as he too got dressed, opting for looser fitting clothes to contrast Bucky.

Bucky was already outside, kneeling on the ground with a scrub brush to scrub away the caked on dirt on the deck. He looked up when he saw Sam and smiled wide, beckoning him over with the jerk of his head.

Sam jogged over and knelt beside Bucky, doing his best not to stare at the man's flexing shoulder and back muscles. "So uh- where the kids? I thought they were with you."

"Sprinkler. They set it up all by themselves, they were very proud." He chuckled. "They sprayed me and now im all sticky." He groaned, but a smile stayed on his fsce.

"Do you need to change-? Are you gonna get cold?" Sam asked rather stupidly, knowing damn well there was pleasant warm wind outside. He was just trying to take his mind off the already too-tight clothes hugging Bucky's toned body, now soaking wet and clinging to the man even closer. It didn't help that the water made what Bucky was wearing slightly transparent, especially across his chest- "Suck it, uncle Sam!" One of the kids screamed happily, hose in hand. He pushed his finger against the nozzle and sprayed Sam right in the face before running away, cackling wildly. "What the- Hey you get back here!" Sam yelled half heartedly but didn't bother getting up to chase after the two.

Bucky was about to respond before he busted up laughing at the now soaking wet Captain America next to him. "Priceless. They were standing there for like 30 seconds, i'm surprised you didnt catch on." He teased.

"Oh like you weren't in on it! Distractin' me and shit, sheesh." Sam retorted playfully and bumped Bucky's shoulder with his own. Despite the fact he was wet all over, Sam couldn't be any happier than in this moment. No worries about the stability of the country, and despite so many responsibilities piled onto his shoulders, Sam couldn't feel more free whenever Bucky was near. "I- I uh-" I love you. It nearly slipped out and Sam cringed at himself. "So- anyway, uh yeah- I'm gonna go get some more brushes."

Bucky laughed at the 'distraction' comment, feeling a bit of self confidence realizing that he was having an effect on Sam like that. They were easing into things, but it had been 3 weeks. Things were moving along, and Bucky felt ready to be more than just that 'baby relationship' level. He hummed in agknowlegment, mentally frowning. Sam was gonna say something else, what was it?

Sam opened his mouth to say something, but his mind couldn't decipher what his heart was screaming at him to say. So, of course, he stayed silent and was on his way back in the house to 'get more brushes'. Obviously ignoring the fact there were more that enough cleaning supplies outside already. "Okay what the fuck? Why's it so damn hard to talk to him all of a sudden?" Sam talked out to the open air in the kitchen, thinking he was completely alone and free to verbally scold himself.

"You lovebirds really get that flustered around eachother? God, your whipped Sam." Sarah laughed, sitting at the table with a cup of coffee and a book.

Sam practically jumped like a surprised cat and spun around, groaning audibly seeing the snarkly look on his sister's face. "How the- how long were you sitting there??"

"Long enough to see you stuttering over your words cuz of your wet, sexy boyfriend." She teased, smirking and trying her damn hardest not to laugh. "Its honestly cute. You guys act like love-sick teenagers."

Hearing wet, sexy, and boyfriend in the same sentence sent Sam's mind further into the gutter and he cleared his throat. "Why don't you get yourself a boyfriend and stop drooling over mine?"

Sarah rolled her eyes. "Im a mom, and im not on the market right now. Nor do i wanna be." She reminded. "Now go back out there to your whip." She snickered and looked back to her book, taking a sip of coffee.

"You're too much sometimes, sis." Sam joked, but he appreciated her jokes. It helped him feel a little less shameful about his constant.. thoughts. Sam reorganized his mind and composed himself the best he could before stepping back out. "Sorry about that,"

"Youre okay babe." He smiled softly as he looked up to him, looking back down as he scrubbed at a particularly rough spot of dirt, the plates in his metal arm moving as he scrubbed the brush against the deck. "This fuckin.. I cant even get it with my metal arm!" He whined.

Sam's eyes nearly popped out of his head and he had to force himself too look away. Since when were Bucky's arms so fucking hot all of a sudden? "Hey be careful you might uh- You might scrub a hole through the deck- Here," Sam got on his knees beside Bucky and offered to take the brush.

Bucky smirked and eyed Sam as if he knew exactly what he was thinking, but sat back on his calves and handed him the brush. He wiped his wet hair out of his face, the dark brown locks sticking to his forehead before they were pushed away. "The sad thing is i think i probably could do that." He laughed.

"I wouldn't be surprised if you did someday," Sam responded lightheartedly. He heard mischievous giggles and the water hose being dragged across the groun nearby. "You little shits better not spray us again or you can't touch the shield for a month!" He yelled and both Cass and AJ ran away. "Kids, I swear to God." Sam chuckled to himself.

Bucky snickered and moved so he was sitting with his back against the wall. He had one leg bent, arm propped up on it as he held a muddy rag, the other leg tucked under. "They remind me of my sister when she was little. Always getting into trouble." He smiled.

"Youre really good with them. Theyre lucky to have someone like you in their life." He complimented, poking Sams muscley shoulder. "I am too..."

Sam swatted Bucky's hand away in playful gentleness, but his smile turned from one in happiness to one in love. Glancing over his shoulder to be sure the kids weren't looking, Sam stole a chaste kiss from the man, being sure to keep it quick so they could avoid making out in public.

Bucky gasped in surprise but gladly reciprocated, his flesh hand cupping Sams jaw gently. When Sam pulled away he pouted. "Again." He frowned, trying not to laugh at himself.

"You sure?" Sam asked softly, but already his lips were only a hair's length away from Bucky's slightly parted ones. Without a second fault to convince him not to, Sam connected their lips once again, this time being sure to not pull away and make it last.

Bucky smiled into the kiss with a small hum, the vocalization ringing through their connected lips. He brought his other hand up to cup the other side of Sams face, holding him there so he couldnt break the kiss.

Sam ignored his burning lungs, his eyes fluttering shut. One of his hands found their way to resting flat against Bucky's chest, the other sneakily resting on the man's waist. He could feel the toned muscle below the dampened fabric of the shirt and that spurred Sam on to making this moment last as long as possible.

Bucky broke the kiss for a split second, sucking in a breath as Sam did the same, leaning back in to crash their lips together once more. Sams lips against his flet like fire, like magic, soft and smooth yet sloppy and sweet. It was addictive, he got lost in the feeling as his head rode on cloud nine.

Sam murmured a silent, breathy "Bucky..", opening his mouth to say something else, but he couldn't speak for he heard the quick footsteps of kids. "Hey uncle Sam- Eww!!" Sam's shoulders tensed and he quickly pulled away from his boyfriend, casting a woeful glance in the man's direction.

Bucky blushed dark, flustered at being caught, but smiled sheepishly and brushed it off with a small chuckle. He looked to Sam as if to say 'whatd you need to say?'

Sam parted his lips to speak and glanced at the kids, shooing them away so he could have his alone time back with Bucky. AJ nudged Cass's side and pulled him away, the two of them running off to pull more shenanigans. When alone again, Sam heaved a soft sigh. "So, uh.. That was.. somethin' else..."

Bucky laughed. "Youre bad at this." He teased. "I havent 'danced' since 1943 and youre still actin’ like a 15 year old." He laughed harder, pecking Sams cheek.

"Oh shut up!" Sam retorted lightheartedly, shoving Bucky's side with his own. "I just- I don't wanna take things too fast and seem like a creep or anything- you know? Your.. your boundaries come before my wants."

"Ease up a bit. Im okay." He whispered, feeling the most relaxed and at peace than he had in a long while. He leaned into Sams side and snuck an arm around his torso. "Youre my safe place..." He whispered.

The storm of worries calmed in Sam's head and he smiled softly, leaning his head against's Bucky's shoulder and letting his eyes shut. "And you are mine.."

Bucky kissed his forehead, smiling as he watched the boys tackle eachother to the ground, their screeches and laughs spreading through the humid Louisiana air like music to Buckys ears. He could get used to this, he thought. It was still awkward and hard at times, but it felt good to be so... domestic. Relaxing. Just him and Sam in Delacroix, living their best life and giving them the ability to recooperate, and for Bucky to start healing a bit from all the ptsd he suffered with.

Here, with Bucky, Sam finally felt the freedom to set his worries aside and finally put his full attention on what he valued most. Not his career, not the press or his reputation. For his family. He readily welcomed Bucky in, considering the man not just his boyfriend but part of his family too. Part of his heart. And he trusted Bucky not to break it.
