A Kiss…Where It Hurts…Out of Love
Hazy green eyes opened hesitantly, adjusting slowly to the harsh artificial lighting overhead. Their brightness made her squint and her body tense up, and that action sent a jolt of searing pain throughout her being. A wave of nausea followed soon after. The air smelled different; too clean and foreign. It added to the sour feeling in her stomach. She tried to push up onto her elbows, to better take in her surroundings, but the pain in her abdomen made her cry out.
“Lexa!” Finally something familiar filled her vision. Golden blonde hair, ocean blue eyes, and the prettiest pink lips she’s ever seen. Ever kissed. Her mouth was dry and sticky and it hurt when she spoke, but she persevered. “Where, where am I? What happened?” One of Clarke’s steady and too soft for the ground hands lifted her head, while the other offered her a cup of water. She took an eager sip and let the cool water ease the sting in her throat.
“Titus shot you with a bullet that was meant for me.” Solemn blue eyes averted their gaze towards the floor and seemed otherwise stuck there. “I managed to keep you alive until we could get you to Arkadia; to my mother. You coded twice on the operating table, and lost a shit ton of blood.” Clarke motioned in the direction of a solid black IV drip hanging at the head of the bed. “The novitiates donated blood to save you. Aden was first in line.”
Lexa’s fingers traced over her abdomen, and across the gauze bandages that encircled her middle. She winced and Clarke gently brushed her hands away, instead taking them in her own and bringing them to her lips. “You’re gonna be okay, Lex. Yu gonplei nou ste odon”. Clarke left soft kisses on her fingertips, and then bowed her head and barely grazed her lips over Lexa’s stomach. Directly over the wound that would eventually heal and be just another battle scar.
Tears slipped from Clarke’s eyes like rain from a clear blue sky; it was equally as unexpected as it was beautiful. With what little strength Lexa could muster, she reached up and thumbed away the tears that fell in a hot stream down Clarke’s cheek. “Ai hod yu in, Klark.” Clarke pressed her salty sweet lips to Lexa’s and returned the sentiment, “I love you, too.”
