A/N: This is Part 1 to a fic idea I had for TFATWS. The plan is it will be a fluff and angst fic, and I hope you guys like it! :) It is a female reader fic as of right now, but I can write the next parts gender neutral if y'all would like :) Not quite sure the direction I’m taking with parings yet, but as of right now its looking like platonic sam x reader, and romantic zemo x reader, with possible bucky x reader. I’m very excited about this fic idea :) :) :)Warnings: mentions of PTSD

Part 2

Y/N sat across from the well-dressed man. Both forces staring deeply at each other, trying to read one another’s pasts through their eyes. It was a contest of who would speak first, neither wanting to give up the staring, until finally the man let out a small laugh.

“Your'e eyes look just like hers…well just as stubborn.”

“Who’s eyes?” Y/N asked

“My wife’s. She always stared me down like that when I’d take our son to go play in the rain, or when I’d beat her to the coffee pot in the morning.” he reminisced

’Bingo’

He was opening up.

“What were their names?”

“Heike. Heike and Carl.” he said as he gave a sad smile

But before the woman could talk more to him, she was caught off-guard by what he said next:

“What was his name?” he asked, motioning his head toward the box filled with picture frames she wanted to forget

They were her wedding pictures.

She had married a year after the Blip. After losing both her parents her and her then-boyfriend decided to tie the knot at the same church her parents were married. It was a small ceremony, but looking back, it was a shit show. The dress was picked out by him, and her bridesmaids were all his sister’s “friends” (and all were his past flings). His parents were stuck up, and she felt like a charity case; the bride with no parents and a therapy job. A year into their marriage she cam home with groceries to make his favorite meal: his mom’s recipe for spaghetti, when she walked in on him cheating on her with, of course, one of the bridesmaids. The girl was nice, but the two had been having an affair since a week before the wedding. In a short amount of time a divorce followed, and three weeks after that he was engaged again and a soon-to-be father.

“His name was Mark.”

“Is he travelling” the man said with a smirk

He knew damn well he wasn’t.

But Y/N realized that to manipulate the manipulator, she had to sob story her way through him.

The two could definitely connect through shared sadness: losses of marriage, and the loss of parents. But with both of their backgrounds in reading people and utilizing empathy, this was the best shot Y/N had at getting him to open up about why he was doing what he was doing.

Sam was gonna pay for this.
