Why Hawkeye deserved to survive Avengers Endgame
author
Summary
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I want to make that clear. But since the Black Widow film came out, hell since Avengers Endgame came out, and Natasha Romanoff [Black Widow] lost her life to save the world / return it to normal, the level of HATE that I’ve seen for Clint Barton / Hawkeye [now Ronin?] has been horrific!Natasha was an amazing and complex character, there is no disputing that, she dominated the franchise since her first appearance, and I legitimately cried at her demise. But to say it should have been Clint, and people posting threats to stop watching or making disgusting comments against the writers or Jeremy himself is simply childish. I want to show his qualities and why he deserved to live.
Note
Will give my views on each film, and Hawkeye's part in them.

End of Endgame

Wow. I went back and rewatched both scenes: her death and the aftermath. Cried. All over again.
Clint is never going to be the same. He [skipping to the end quickly] got his wife and children back, but at the cost of the only other person he really, deeply loves.
The film never specified / stated what happened directly after the Snap. We aren’t told if anyone helped him, or how long before they found out his family was gone.
Rhodey states earlier in the film, “What he’s being doing the last few years…”
Which I guess indicates he didn’t turn into Ronin immediately. I’m guessing though that the team, Natasha especially would have tried to help, but his grief became too strong and he needed a release. [again, guessing / my theory] And that’s what makes his and Natasha’s reunion that much harder, that he’s, [forgive the expression] fallen so far from the man he was.

After Hulk performed the Snap, Barton kicked the gauntlet and stones away, protecting all those who rushed to Bruce. Then he saw his phone vibrate, the hope in his eyes: it’s Laura!! :-)
When Avengers HQ is blown up, Clint, while injured, had to freaking RUN from Thanon’s minions through the tunnels, THEN managed to use his electric arrows, while running to slow them down.
His freaking pull up on the wire, running up the sewer scene while holding the gauntlet and using his sword… How can ANYONE say he’s not freaking awesome!!
Okay yes, he handed over the gauntlet, but he didn’t know that wasn’t THEIR Nebula – but then he stepped back to let the sisters sort their own shit out, AND grabbed the gauntlet and protected it soon after.

-

He proves his physicality once again throughout the franchise, showing his jumps and flips as he fights – I remember a very short but relevant scene to me in Civil War. Then, in Endgame, using his multiple physical skills, [running with the gauntlet, shooting arrows and using his Ronin sword].
Also, his 10 second scene with Black Panther, I don’t know why, but I loved it!

Remember back in Civil War?
“I’m Clint.”
“I don’t care.”
[fight]
Cue to now.
“Clint!” [shows his face] “Give it to me.”
And he hands over the most powerful weapon in the Universe, to a man whom the last time he saw, he had a fight with!
Not sure if it’s valiant or stupid but hey, loved it.

Then he gets right back to it – a human with no power, or super-suit or any other such extravagance, he keeps fighting.

Deleted scene:
Avengers: Endgame Deleted Scene - The Avengers Honor Tony Stark

I do not know why they deleted this scene from Endgame.

It was beautiful and meaningful without uttering a single word.
Clint leads the way in bowing / taking a knee in mourning for Iron Man / Tony Stark’s sacrifice and death.

While I made this with a clear message dedicated to the awesomeness that is Clint Barton / Hawkeye / Ronin, I think this bleeds into the true message of the film:
ANYONE can be a hero,
ANYONE can fight,
EVERYONE makes their choice.

Taking a quote from Humans [Leo Elster]:
“Humanity, it’s not a state, it’s a quality.”

What’s even more meaningful is if you look to everyone there:
An assassin, a cosmic superhero, a king, a hulk, a super soldier, a demigod, wizards & a sorcerer supreme…
All kneeled to a human.

But look how far humanity came:
Once upon a time, Tony Stark was a billionaire playboy with very little conscience.
Through pain and growth, be became Iron Man.
Then he slipped back into the popularity and fame, but with his sense of goodness imbedded.
Then he tried to protect the world [Ultron] and while it backfired, his dedication didn’t waver.
In Iron Man 3, he can now talk to Pepper / express himself with actual words and not full-childish antics.
Through it all, the ups and downs, he stays true to himself and his humor.
In Infinity War, he loses Peter Parker, which sets him up for Endgame, having FINALLY married Pepper and having an amazing mini-me, his awesome little Morgan.
His legacy is if you fight and never give up, you’ll find happiness – his was his friends and family:
• Happy
• Rhodey
• Bruce
• Cap
• Pepper
• Morgan
• All of the Avengers.

He, like Natasha, gave their lives to protect and save the people they loved.
And those left behind will never be the same:
• Morgan has her mother and Happy, but has lost her father.
• Clint has his wife and children back, but has lost his partner and best friend.
• Wanda lost her brother, her country and her lover but continues the fight.

What comes next, we will see.
