New Year's Day
Please, don't ever become a stranger
Whose laugh I could recognize anywhere
Please, don't ever become a stranger
Whose laugh I could recognize anywhere
Maya opens the front door of the house, the key jangling in her hand. As she steps inside, she hears a faint rustling sound coming from the living room.
She walks over to the room and sees Carina, sitting on the couch, staring off into space. Her brow was furrowed, and her hands were fidgeting in her lap.
"Hello my love," Maya says, walking over to her. "Is everything okay?"
Carina looks up at her, her eyes were distant and unfocused. "Yeah, I'm fine," she says, her voice soft.
But Maya could tell something was bothering her wife. She sat down next to her and put her arm around her, trying to offer comfort and support.
They sat in silence for a few minutes, Carina lost in thought and Maya trying to figure out what was going on in her wife’s head.
Finally, Carina lets out a deep sigh and turns to face Maya. “ I ran into Arizona today and her daughter today at work”
Maya nods "Oh," she says, encouraging her to continue.
“The last time we saw each other it was disordinata, we fought and said things to each other and you know how in movies they make it seem awkward or someone is jealous, I thought it would be like that. But when I saw her outside Grey’s I didn’t feel anything, no anger, sadness. It was like seeing a stranger, a distant memory of a past and Maya all I could think about then was you” Carina continues readjusting herself on the couch to look at Maya better.
Maya cocks her head, eyes furrowed and lips pursed trying to understand what her wife was telling her. "It made me realize how important it is to me that I never become your ex." Carina explains seeing the confusion on her wife's face.
"I don't understand," Maya finally says, fidgeting with her wedding ring. "Why would you become my ex?"
“I just love being with you, love how you make me feel and I can't imagine ever losing that connection we have. I never want to feel like we're strangers to each other. I loved Arizona once and seeing her and feeling nothing god I don’t think I can survive if that happened with you. Dio ti amo così tanto non ci sono parole per descrivere quanto significhi per me.” Carina starts rambling in Italian.
Maya gently places her hand on her wife’s shoulder "Carina.. baby, it's okay. Take a deep breath and let it out slowly."
Carina looks at her with wide eyes and shakes her head. "I can't… I can’t lose you bella, not you too”
Maya wraps her arms around Carina and holds her tightly whispering reassuring words in her ear. "It's okay, baby. I'm here with you. You're safe. Just focus on your breathing. Inhale slowly through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth."
Carina closes her eyes and tries to follow Maya's instructions. Slowly but surely, her breathing began to regulate, and her heart rate starts to slow down. Opening her eyes slowly she turns around and looks at Maya with gratitude. “Thank you” she says softly snuggling into her wife’s embrace, feeling the warmth of her body against hers. The scent of her cologne was comforting and familiar.
For a while, they sat in silence, the only sound being the occasional sniffle from Carina. Maya strokes her hair, and every once in a while, leaning down to press a kiss to the top of her head.
"You see," Maya begins slowly, her voice low and soothing. "There's a force in the universe that's called cosmic pull. It's what holds the planets in orbit around the sun, and what keeps the stars in their constellations. But cosmic pull isn't just a physical force. It's also a force that binds us to the people we love. It's the reason we're drawn to certain people, why we feel a connection that we can't explain." Maya continues
Maya pauses as Carina sits up and settles against the couch looking at her wife.
"When you meet someone who you feel that cosmic pull towards, it's like the universe is telling you that you're meant to be together. It's an unexplainable feeling, but it's one that you can't ignore." she continues smiling softly at her wife.
Carina listens intently, eyes glistening a soft smile on her face.
"And once you're connected to someone through that cosmic pull, it's like you're linked to them for eternity. Even if you're physically apart, the connection is still there, pulling you towards each other."
Maya takes Carina’s hand in her and slowly raises their combined hands to her lips, gently kissing Carina’s knuckles.
"That's why I believe in us, in the cosmic pull that brought us together. I know that we're meant to be together, that our love is a force that can't be broken." Maya murmurs leaning in and gently wiping the tears away from Carina's face with her thumb.
“Woow that was beautiful bambina” Carina says voice trembling with emotion. Carina leaned in and pressed her lips against Maya's. The kiss was soft at first, but quickly grew more intense as she poured all of her love and passion into it. Maya eagerly kisses her back wrapping her arms around Carina’s waist, and pulling her in closer.
As they finally pull away from each other, Carina looks into her wife’s eyes, seeing the love she felt for the blonde reflecting back at her. "I love you," she whispers, her voice hoarse with emotion.
Maya smiled at her, reaching up to stroke Carina's cheek. "I know," she said softly. "I love you too."
Hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you
And I will hold on to you
