Chapter 36
Nat's POV
I knew I had to drop off Wanda early so I can visit Pietro grave, I even had to pry her off the bed since she wouldn't wake up, but I decided that today I'll do it at 3.
I arrived at Uni meeting up with Yelena who told me that she hadn't gotten any sleep last night for binge watching Stranger Things, we met up at the entrance and headed to class.
"Woah what happended? It looks like you got hit by a dump truck." She snickered.
"And what's got you this chipper early in the morning?"
"I had lots of coffee and two hours of sleep okay?" She sassed.
"And really blonde? You really like me that much that you decided to go blonde?" She chuckled.
"Last time I checked you don't own blonde." I rolled my eyes.
I still can't believe that we chose the same university, it was when our first day of class I had known when she unknowingly tackled me to the ground.
"Uh Nat you've got a you know right here." She chuckled as she pointed at her neck.
"Shit goddamit Wanda is this payback for making you look like a dalmatian." I muttered.
"Rough Night?" She laughed.
"Shut up, it's 7 am and I haven't had my coffee yet." I grumbled.
"Here, I bought extra incase something like this happened." She said handing me a large cup of coffee.
"I owe you." I said taking a sip.
"Oh I know." She said as we took our seats.
"I wonder what Wanda looks like when you said dalmatian." She quipped.
"Trust me when I say she can't walk properly."
"Damn that bad?" She laughed.
"Well I saw a dude asking her out yesterday so yeah I guess."
"And here I thought Natasha Romanoff doesn't get jealous."
"He was all over her."
"Ahuh and the only solution you thought was banging her to oblivion."
"That's such a weird to put it."
"Anyways, while you were busy fucking your girlfriend I decided to buy a dog."
"Oh god did you really name it Fanny?"
"First of all it's a she, second of all yes I did."
"I already feel so bad for that dog."
"She loves me."
"Keep telling yourself that Yel."
---------------
Wanda's POV
As much as I loved what happened yesterday I can't get through the day without one stumble.
Even Tony made a comment about it, I had to spend half an hour covering up every mark on my neck yet Jane managed to notice one.
"I see Nat really did a number on you." She teased.
"Shut up it's too early for this."
"What happened yesterday that led to this."She said pointing at me.
"Well she saw Vis trying to ask me out, and before I could say no she already interrupted and nearly threatened the guy."
"Didn't know she was the type to get easily jealous."
"She isn't." I chuckled.
"Anyways, let's get to class I have somewhere to be later." I said as we walked through the halls
"Aren't you worried about Vis?"
"Why would I be worried?"
"Just a thought." She shrugged.
"Nope, not worried." I said walking in class.
"I'll see you at lunch Jane." I said taking my seat.
"Yeah see you." She said as she walked to her seat, taking out her phone.
As I was about to take my notes out, Vis sat down next to me, he cleared his throat tapping my shoulder.
"Hey Wanda about yesterday." Vis started.
"Yeah?"
He stopped as he noticed the marks on my neck, confirming his suspicion.
"I thought your friend was just in on the joke, just so you wouldn't go out with me." He scoffed.
"Excuse me?" I said confused, he was such a nice guy yesterday what changed?
"What does she have that I don't, she's just a dyke that's stopping you from finding a real man."
"Okay, I'm gonna stop you there, my girlfriend has been with me for 4 years and I don't need someone like you to tell me what I need and don't need, it's 2021 and you're still homophobic? You really need to get your priorities checked." I said slamming my hands on the table.
"Miss Maximoff may I ask how important it is that you have to disturb my class." The professor said in a monotone voice.
"I would like to change seats sir." I said.
"Very well, take a seat next to miss Foster, next time you disturb my class, your out." He said.
"Yes sir."
Thank god he let me sit next to Jane, I took my bag and notes and made my way to the empty seat next to Jane.
"God I thought he was nice turns out he was an asshole." I huffed.
"Trust me when I say men will do that just to get the girls." She said.
After class Jane and I went to this local food stop for lunch, I ordered some fries and a milkshake while Jane ordered a cheeseburger and coke.
"Ok now tell me what happened back there."
"I thought Vis was gonna say that he's okay with what happened yesterday but turns out he called Nat a "Dyke" and that she's just stopping me for finding a real man, like what's that suppose to mean?"
"The dude really did a 360 and went straight to homophobia." Jane chuckled.
"He thought it was some sort of prank just so I can reject him."
"Well now that he's out of your hair, how are thing's after Pietro?"
"I planned on visiting later, I just need to stop by to get some lillies."
"Good choice."
--------------
Classes continued throughout the day as I ignore everytime Vis tries to talk to me, and have been avoiding him til the end of the day.
I took a cab to the cemetery, bringing some lillies along the way. I used the second gate to enter, walking towards his grave from the back.
I noticed a certain redhead kneeling next to his headstone placing her forehead and hummed our song.
After she finished she sat back down her back facing me, I got close enough to hear what she was talking but now close enough for her to notice me.
"Did you know Yelena went to the same Uni?" She laughed.
"I can't believe she managed to tackle me without me noticing. My parents missed you, they said they'll try visiting as often as they could." She continued.
"Of course I'm here, I've been visiting you this past week, so that's that."
I began zoning out as I admired how she tell's Piet all the latest news that's been happening in our lives, and how she's been visiting him this past week but what snapped me back was when I heard my name.
"Wanda said she'll try and visit you, I knew this has taken a toll on her and I really wanted to help her, I just don't know what to say." She said making my heart sunk low.
"We've been together for four years now and I just feel myself falling for her even more." I smiled at what she said.
"She told me that you use to sing that song to her when she has trouble sleeping, I hope you don't mind that I'll do that whenever she can't sleep." She sighed.
"I really what to marry her Piet, and all I gotta do is just say Wanda will you marry me? I just need-"
"I will." I exclaimed making her jump.
"What the? Wanda?" She said turning around.
"Wanda what are you doing here?" She asked.
"No wait that's a stupid question to ask." She quickly said.
"To answer your question yes I will marry you, and the second I came here to place these." I said showing her the bouquet of lillies.
"How much have you heard?" She asked.
"All of it to be honest." I said giving her a rueful smiled.
"Wanda I was planning something special on how to propose to you." She smiled.
"You can still plan it and propose again you know."
"Do you want to ask again or I'll just have to answer?"
"I'll ask again if you want." She chuckled.
"Of course I want to."
"Well then Wanda will you marry me?" She chuckled.
"You know I will." I kissed her.
"That's great." She said against my lips.
"Now let's get back to your brother." She said pulling away.
We sat back down in front of his grave stone, I placed the lillies on the headstone as I whispered how I miss him.
"Hey Piet, I'm sorry I haven't visited you even once since your funeral, It's just hard that knowing that instead of me seeing you, I'll just see your name plastered on a stone." I sighed as i bit my lip.
"I hope Talia said good things about me, it should've been me that's suppose to visit you everyday and here I am being a coward." I said feeling Nat's stare on me.
"You're not a coward malysh, everybody has different ways of processing greif and that's alright." She said giving me a side hug.
"Piet you know I'm not always that lucky with people, I just hope you're proud of me." I said pursing my lips.
"He is malysh, we all are."
"Can we just sit here for a few more minutes then go home?"
"Of course darling."
We sat the in silence, Nat's head leaning against mine as I put my head on her shoulder, I kept looking at Piet's engravings as I read it over and over again.
"I have an idea." Nat said breaking the silence.
"What's that?"
"How about everytime I pick you up we come her for even just a few minutes and then go home."
"I'd love that idea." I yawned.
"I think we should get going now. We'll see you tomorrow Piet." She said standing up.
"I miss you Piet I love you." I said letting Nat help me stand up.
We went to Nat's car and drove back home peacefully, I decided to not tell Nat what happened earlier with Vis and just wait for the right moment to bring it up.
"Hey malysh?"
"Hm?"
"Since I proposed earlier, do you want to wear that ring on your necklace or just stay as it is?"
"I'll just wait for the day you'll propose to me again to make it official but for now this we're now fiancés." I smiled.
"Fiancé, I like that."
"Good, now let's go home."
After we got back to the apartment, Nat made us my favorite dish that I haven't had for so long which was paprikash.
"I didn't know you can cook this." I smiled
"My mom taught me when you went to Dr. Raynor alone."
"Well send Melina my regards because this is delicious. It taste like how my mom use to make." I said my smile slowly fading.
"Hey, I'm the one who cooked this I'm just good at reading instructions." She joked.
"You should cook for me sometime."
"Send my mom the list of food you want me to cook and let her send me instructions."
"Oh I will."
"You said it taste like how your mom used to make, you mean she used to cook for both of you?"
"Yeah, she was the one who taught me how to cook and bake in the first place."
"Have you ever thought that she tried looking for you?"
"I don't know, she never tried contacting us."
"We've been together for four years but you only brought you mom up every once or twice."
"I never liked talking about her." I said taking another bite of the paprikash.
"Well we're talking about her now." She said taking the wine bottle out.
"You asked."
"I'm not pushing you to talk about her when your not ready."
"You know what I've been pushing this down for ten years, let's talk about her."
"Are you sure?" She asked me as she poured wine on my glass.
"Yes now ask away."
"You're saying for the last ten years she has never contacted you even once?"
"Nope, not even one message, that's why I got scared when you took your driver's license."
"I'm still sorry about that." She said downing her cup in our sip.
"I know and I forgave you."
"So does that mean she doesn't know that Piet's gone?"
"Even I don't know."
"Where was she from?"
"All of us came from Sokovia, they moved here once we turned 7." I said then I remebered something.
"Remember my birthday four years ago?" I asked.
"Yeah how could I forget." She muttered.
"My- He said that I was just as filthy as she is and that's why she left. I didn't know what he meant by that and I just dismissed it."
"What do you think did he meant?"
"I think my mom left us for another woman but that's still doesn't explain why she hasn't tried contacting us."
"We'll just have to wait til then, maybe one day she'll just pop out of nowhere."
"I'm still not getting my hopes up."
We just sat there for a minute when she spoke up to divert the topic not wanting to make this awkward for the time being.
"Do you still speak sokovian?"
"Yeah, Peitro and I used to talk to each other when we're alone, and it became a great past time." I said taking a small sip of wine.
"Can you say something for me?"
"Sure let me think." I said.
"Can you say something in russian in return?" I asked.
"Я любил тебя с того момента, как мы впервые встретились, и теперь я хочу провести с тобой свою жизнь." (I loved you since the moment we first met and now I want to spend my life with you.) She whispered.
"Të dua Natalia deri në fund të jetës sime." (I love you Natalia til' the end of my life.) I whispered back.
"I heard you say my name, what did you say?" She asked.
"That I'll love you til I die." I smiled.
"I find you talking with your accent very appealing." She said raising her glass.
"You look like that one meme of Leonardo DiCaprio raising his glass." I laughed.
"Good to know that every women fantasize getting fucked in a sinking ship." She chuckled.
"You didn't have to put it like that."
"Aside from that what you said was very long, what does it mean?"
"The same as yours but worded differently." She chuckled.
"Have you ever thought of going back to Russia?" I asked.
"No, I don't want to actually." She said lightly shaking her head.
"Why?"
"Well, Russians still haven't shed that view, even decades after the fall of the regime that kept homophobia in place." She said with a rueful smile.
"I forgot the Soviet Union thinks homosexuality was a punishable crime."
"Exactly, I would love to let you see the place I grew up but I'm not risking our lives especially yours." She said downing another drink.
"I was thinking more like Greece or Italy." She said with a one sided smile.
"I know this is like a random question but do you speak other languages besides Russian?" I asked cause I really need to know, four years of being together yet this topic hasn't come up once.
"I haven't told anyone one about this beside Russian I'm fluent in French, German, Chinese, Italian, Vietnamese, and Latin."
"Where the hell did you have time to learn all of those?" I said in disbelief.
"When I was four I was fascinated in every language and wanted to learn everything but these were the only ones I managed."
"I basically forced my parents to take me on lesson not caring if I had ballet and karate." She chuckled.
I just stare in awe at the girl in front of me, how did I ended up with someone as perfect as her.
"You know what I noticed about you when you think." She smiled.
"And what is that?" I smiled back.
"Everytime you would always smile your nose scrunches up and you just look so adorable." She pointed out.
I just sat there and would listen to her even if she talked about nothing I would still give her my fullest attention.
"And when you remember something amazing or exciting your eyes lights up and twinkle." She added.
"You would also tilt your head to the left when you find something annoying or hate it.
"I really love it when you ramble." I mumbled.
"What was that?"
"Oh did I say it out loud?"
"Yeah you actually did." She chuckled.
"I love listening to your rambles, your voice gives me this soothing feeling that makes me want to lay in your arms and sleep."
"Speaking of sleep, wanna join me to bed?" She yawned.
"How could I say no to an offer like that?" I chuckled as I wrapped my arms around her neck.
"I wasn't offering, I was telling you." She said carrying me.
"What are we waiting for then?"
We laid down facing each other as Nat hummed the same song, brushing a stray strand of hair from my face and tucking it behind my ear.
"I'll never get tired of hearing that song when it comes from you." I smiled.
"Good, or else I'll have to find another song." She said kissing my forehead before we drift off in the night's moonlight.
