The Citadel
Sylvie slumps on the floor of the citadel. Light flashes outside. She stares at the window, it seems to be getting brighter and brighter. She imagines this is the effect of more and more time lines emerging, but she doesn’t get up to look. She feels desolate and without hope. She could just die here in this room where she’d been given everything she ever wanted and thrown it away.
Her heart aches. Her body aches for Loki. She feels broken; detached from her only reason to carry on now that she’s done the what she had to do. Why didn’t he see it the same way as her? She feels anger at him mixed with anger at herself because she knows that he was right to warn her and that’s why she had to send him away.
She had to throw him through the portal because he was in her way. She knew he wasn’t going to let her do what she had to do and she had to protect him - from her.
He said he understood her but he didn’t, not really. She had to do it. It was her grand purpose. She felt it in her bones.
This thought makes her wonder if she even had free will. If doing what she did was her destiny then did she ever really have a choice?
Why didn’t she listen to Loki? Listen to her heart? It was telling her then, and it’s telling her now, that the most important thing in her universe - in the multiverse - is him and how she feels when she is with him. She thought she needed to kill HWR to feel complete, but she just needed Loki. The other half of her soul. A home for her heart.
What has she done? She’s driven him away, unleashed something terrible, and she may never see him again. Devastated, tears roll down her face.
Suddenly brought back to reality she hears a noise. Someone is entering the citadel. She needs to leave in a hurry. She grabs the tempad from the desk, impossible to program she jumps through the portal hoping it will lead her to Loki.
