It's Been A Long, Long Time
Imagine Steve and Peggy's reunion after seventy years. - Anonymous
Steve had called ahead that morning, to let the nurses know that he was coming. And had stopped at a local flower shop to buy her favorite flowers, after all, Bucky had once told him that flowers were the way to any woman’s heart.
With the bouquet in hand, Steve signed in at the front desk, and headed back to Peggy’s room, the nurses had warned him of Peggy’s condition ahead of time, there was no guarantee that she would recognize him.
Still, Steve felt like he had to see her, he owed her a dance after all.
At the door to room 304, Steve knocked and waited until her heard a muffled voice bid him to come in.
Opening the door, Steve saw her sitting in an over stuffed chair next to her window. The sunshine coming in through the window, made her now gray hair glow, giving her a halo of white. She was still the most beautiful woman Steve had ever seen, even if it had been decades since he had last saw her.
His mouth was suddenly dry when Peggy turned her gaze upon him, and she is unable to mask her look of surprise.
“Uh… h-hi, Peggy.” He said lamely after several tense seconds of silence, “I um… I brought you flowers… English Roses, your favorite.” Still Peggy was silent, her surprise turn to an expression that Steve couldn’t quiet name, was it sadness, anger, relief?
With tears welling up in her eyes, Peggy smiled.
“Steve, you’re alive?”
