Meet The Sousas
Steve accidentally meets Peggy's Grandkids. -Anonymous
This had to be the most awkward situation Steve had ever been in, and he had been in quite a few in his twenty-five years of life.
“Who are you?” A little girl with braided pigtails asked as she stared up at Steve, who was standing in nothing but his work out sweats in Peggy’s kitchen.
“Um… I’m Steve, what’s your name, Sweetheart?”
“She’s Margery, she’s six. I’m Daniel, I’m ten.” A boy that must have been Margery’s older brother said as he came around the corner. “Where’s Grandma Peggy?”
So these were Peggy’s grandchildren, oh good God, what did Steve walk into?
“Um… your Grandmother is getting ready, she should be out in a minute.” Steve said awkwardly, “can I get you guys anything to eat or drink?”
“No,” Daniel said taking a seat at the island, his sister following suit.
Steve tried his best to ignore the tension in the room. While the kids sat at the island twiddling their thumbs while they waited.
“So… any fun plans for today?” Steve asked as he poured himself some coffee and tried to make conversation to pass the time, where the hell was Peggy, why was she taking so long?
“Grandma’s taking us to the zoo, we’re going to see the monkeys!” Margery said flashing her dimples. Reminding Steve of a much younger version of Peggy.
“That sounds like a lot of fun, what about you, Daniel what are you excited to see at the zoo?” Steve asked feeling a little more at ease, he could do this talking about the zoo was a safe topic.
“Are you shacking up with my grandma?” Daniel asked instead of answering Steve’s question, making the star spangled hero choke on the coffee he had just took a sip of.
“I’m sorry what?”
“That’s what Dad says, he says that Grandma is shacking up with a guy that is half her age, I figure that’s you,” Daniel said flippantly.
“I am not ‘shacking up with your grandma’,” Steve said, “I’m spending a lot of time with your grandma. I like her, she’s a very nice lady.”
“Do you live here?” Daniel asked, refusing to drop the subject.
“No I do not live here, I have an apartment down town.”
“But how much time do you actually spend there though?” The boy pressed onward.
“That’s none of your business.” Thankfully, there was no further conversation on Steve’s living arrangements or whom was shacking up with whom, because Peggy came in at that moment.
“Grandma!” Both kids jumped up from their seats to hug Peggy.
“Good morning, my darlings, what are you doing here so early, I thought your father said he’d drop you off at eleven?”
“He did, but Dad got called into a meeting so he dropped us off early!” Daniel said brightly. “C’mon, Grandma let’s go!”
“Alright, go grab your coats and we’ll get going.” Peggy said, once the kids were out of the room she turned to Steve.
“I’m sorry, Steven said he was going to drop them off at eleven,” she said annoyed.
“It’s fine, have fun at the zoo, Sweetheart I’ll see you when you get home,” Peggy grinned and kissed Steve’s cheek.
“I’ll make this up to you later, I promise.”
