Battle
The flight was almost silent as they raced to Europe.
Whispers would be heard throughout the group at different points of the flight, but crescendo as they drew closer. At the front of the jet, Steve and Sam both called for the others to prepare themselves before they landed. Bucky took Allie's hand in his and gave her a soft smile.
"Remember being in here with the kids when we went to Wakanda?" he smiled to her.
"I do," she laughed softly. "We'll have to find excuses to take them out more often. Steven and Sarah really loved it."
"What do you think of taking them to Romania?" he grinned as the jet landed.
"As if either of us would want to go back to Bucharest," she rolled her eyes slightly.
"I just thought you might want me to finally give you a tour of the place," he shrugged.
"After the state of that apartment you lived in? I may not have been inside of it, but don't think that Steve didn't tell me," she smirked.
"I was on the run!" he defended as everyone began to stand and made their way throughout the jet, taking out weapons and checking that they were loaded.
"You could have tidied things up," she shrugged.
"I tidy things up at the house," Bucky rolled his eyes.
"It's nice to know you learned your lesson," Allie nodded.
As Bucky rolled his eyes once more and turned to take his firearms. Allie glanced around and sighed to herself. Steve and Bucky both took notice, their brows raising with the simple question of what she was sighing about.
"I don't think I should be taking a weapon out there," she bit her lip.
"Why?" Steve's voice was soft. "You still need to protect yourself."
"I have my powers to protect myself," she reminded him. "Besides, I think it may be better for me to not have anything in my hands. I want to try and talk Annika down, not agitate her."
"Alright," Steve nodded.
Outside of the jet, it was still light. Allie was able to recognize the area that the city was in. When she'd originally fled from the rubble of the lab, she had been disoriented from the fear. She was surprised that the person who had found her was as discreet as they were about welcoming her into their home for the night. That had been one of the apartment buildings that laid inside the area.
It was eerily calm as the team walked out into the grass. Allie looked around cautiously before she glanced to her team. Taking in a breath, she directed pairs.
"Wanda and Peter, if things start to go wrong, take care of the bystanders. Don't scare them, but get them to safety. Stick together," she directed and the two nodded. "T'Challa, take Zemo with you. Be alert, be aware, step in if necessary, but look for Annika's followers. Sharon and John, you do the same in the opposite direction."
"Alright," Sharon nodded, almost appearing a little bitter that she was the one that was paired with John.
"Sam, don't fly until it's necessary. We know they're here, but I don't want you to be an easy target early on."
"I can do that," Sam nodded. "I'll have the shield with me to protect myself if I need to."
"Exactly," Allie grinned. "Steve, Bucky," her voice trailed off as the two waited for her instruction. "You're both with me."
"And what will you be doing?" Zemo questioned her.
"Finding a vantage point, observing, and going after Annika," Allie smirked at Zemo's nod of approval. "Alright. You know what to do, go do it."
The team split off into different directions. Each group was silent as they could be, cautiously keeping an eye on their surroundings. Steve and Bucky both turned to Allie who took a breath.
"We're going to want to go to one of these rooftops," she bit her lip. "I do know the area, so it should be easy to use one of these buildings at the edge of the city."
"Well, we're following you," Steve's hand gestured out as he glanced at her.
"Then come on," she nodded and took off.
It was an eerie feeling as they walked along the grass. The jet was left behind them, the other groups gone as the three continued to keep their gazes ahead. Noticing movement somewhere ahead and between buildings, Bucky's eyes only flicked its direction for a moment before looking away. Something didn't feel exactly right about the movement that he had seen.
Allie looked up to the roof of one of the taller buildings. Glancing at the windows that sat along the walls, it looked like an apartment complex of some kind. Looking to Steve and Bucky, she nodded.
"I want to at least try this rooftop."
"Allie, you don't have to explain. Just take us with you," Steve smiled over at her. "We're with you to the end."
"Of the line," Bucky added.
"What?" Allie looked between the two.
"Remember when I walked you guys home from your mom's burial?" Bucky looked between the two. "I told you guys that I was with you 'til the end of the line. Steve said it to me when he was trying to help in D.C."
"Right," Allie nodded soft and slow. "I appreciate it, but we should really get up there."
Glancing up the building, she spotted the fire escape. Looking in both directions first, she quickly asked the two to give her a boost up. As she stood on the metallic surface, she lowered the ladder to the two men. Securing it back in place once they'd both made it, the three quickly and quietly made their way up. No one uttered a sound or a word as they passed by the windows of apartments, desperate to not accidentally attract attention to themselves.
The rooftop was flat and dingy. There was nothing spectacular about it, but as Allie glanced out, she was satisfied with how much of the city she could see. There alleys upon alleys and streets upon streets, but they sat close to a clearing. There was nothing there as she glanced at it, but it was a wide open space. Squinting at the sight, she realized that it must have been a park.
"Where do you think she would be?" Steve asked softly.
"Anywhere," her answer was honest. "Knowing this area, there are enough hiding spots that they could all be completely shielded. The trick is luring them while not being lured out ourselves."
"And how exactly do you plan on doing that right now?" Bucky looked over at her.
"By just being here," Allie glanced back to him. "I'm here and that's what Annika wants."
"I see," Steve nodded.
The three came to stand at the center of the rooftop. As they began to make decisions of how they could continue to spread along the city, a blast and a crash following attracted their attention.
"What the hell was that?" Bucky frowned.
"Shit," Allie looked at the destruction in the distance.
"Um, yeah, Allie?" Sam's voice came over the comms.
"Yeah Sam?" she asked.
"I gotta fly," he said.
"Then fly."
It was only a moment more before they saw the silhouette of Sam launching into the air and the glint of the shield ricocheting and shining in the light. Allie didn't look at Steve and Bucky as they heard crashing and watched as fires began to roar in more than one place. Ice began to climb other buildings in the distance.
"We need to get down there," Steve frowned.
"Yeah," Allie nodded.
"What's the easiest way to get down?" Bucky's question fell flat as Allie gave him a look. "Oh."
"It's not too terribly far," Allie walked over to the edge and the two joined her to look down to the ground. "We can slide."
"Slide?" Steve rose a brow. "I'm sure that's great for you but what if you made a pile of snow for us?"
"Nope," she shook her head. "Slide."
"I'm honestly with Allie on this one," Bucky looked to ground.
"Well," Allie let it sit with her what she was about to do. "This is probably not a great idea."
"Right," Steve nodded.
"And we might draw attention," she continued.
"Maybe," Bucky's sight stayed trained on the ground.
"But none of us care, do we?"
"No," the two men shrugged and looked over at Allie.
"Alright," she nodded and turned on her heel, walking to the center of the rooftop. "See you boys down there."
Taking a running start, Allie jumped off of the roof, creating a slide of ice and landing on the ground solidly. Steve and Bucky had both watched as she landed, turned around, and looked up to them.
"God I love her," Bucky smiled as he too backed up for a running start and slid down, followed by Steve.
As Allie turned to dissipate the ice, crashing could be heard around them before screams rattled through the air. Continuing to dissipate the ice, Allie nodded for her brother and husband to start heading in the direction of the noise, following closely after them.
A girl sat trapped under rubble begging for help. Steve didn't hesitate to rush to her side as he began to lift up debris. Bucky and Allie joined him, pulling what they could off of the girl and asking what had happened. The frightened girl responded by telling them that she didn't know. She blinked and the wall had come down on her.
"Either they figured out a frequency or they've started using other weapons," Allie frowned.
"Everyone be alert," Steve voiced over the comms. "Watch out for Annika's followers."
Behind them, another wave of ice encased a building. Allie looked at it in horror. Looking back at Bucky, Allie went to speak before he held up a hand.
"Let me stay and help Steve," he assured her. "You go. I'll be fine."
"Are you sure?" Allie took a step closer.
"I am," he nodded. "You go find Annika and finish things."
Allie bit her lip as she looked up at him. Sighing to herself, she reached up and kissed him.
"You two stay safe, okay?" she frowned.
"We will," Bucky nodded. "It's not like we haven't all been in wars before."
"Don't remind me," she sighed. "Hey Steve?"
"Yeah?" he asked as he pushed a large piece of debris over and away from the girl.
"You're the best older brother," she shrugged. "I love you."
"I love you, too," he smiled. "And I guess you're the best little sister."
"Jerk," she laughed as she turned back to Bucky. "I'm serious, stay safe."
"I will," Bucky nodded. "You better be safe as well. You can do this."
Allie smiled before going to turn on her heel. Bucky grabbed her hand and pulled her back, kissing her one last time before they nodded in acknowledgment to one another and she took off. Following the sounds of rubble falling and the yells from the citizens of the city, Allie made her way down the alleys.
She wasn't quite sure the time that had passed, but it could have only been a few minutes. She stood close to a building, peeking around the corner to take in what was taking place in front of her. She could hear the sounds of Sam flying in the air nearby, the sound from the shield rippling through the air. Footsteps sounded behind her, and when she turned around with her arms raised in defense, ready to blast ice at a moment's notice, she took in Bucky's face at the other end of the alley.
"James? What are you doing back here? I thought that you said you were going to stay with Steve?" Allie asked with a cocked brow.
"Well, I changed my mind. I thought it would be best to be with you," Bucky shrugged.
Allie paused for a moment as she looked at him. She had just been with him and he'd assured her that he believed in her and her ability to do what she needed to do. It wasn't like him to change his mind like that, but she began to give him the benefit of the doubt.
"Okay? Well, I'm still looking for Annika," she stated and turned around, looking around the corner once more.
"We'll find her, doll," he spoke as he came to stand behind her.
Allie froze. Doll. She was sure that he had just called her that, except, that wasn't what he called her. Without moving her head, she looked to the corner of her eyes where she could just make out his hands coming to be behind her. There was no vibranium arm. It wasn't Bucky. Thinking quickly, she turned with a fake smile.
"What did you call me?" she asked softly.
"Doll," he repeated. "Why?"
"Because if you're going to impersonate my husband," she began, lifting a hand and taking off the nano mask. "Do your research. He never calls me doll."
As the mask slipped from his face, a young man stood in front of Allie. He had taken in a deep breath as he looked at her. Her eyes settled into a furrowed flare, taking a deep breath as she looked at him.
"Now," her jaw set. "Where is she?"
From where Bucky really was on the field, he was still was with Steve and Sam had joined them. As they stood and took a breath, they took a glance around at their surroundings. It wasn't hard to miss the growing numbers of fire and the ice covered brick that stood in the area.
"Annika really is set on making things hard, isn't she?" Steve sighed as he looked up at nearby buildings.
"It's like this all over. There's no telling how many followers that Annika has with her, let alone followers with the same powers as her," Sam frowned.
"Then we just have to keep going," Bucky shrugged. "It'll be fine."
"You know, if you stand here, nothing will be done," a voice sounded from near them.
Stalking along the alleyways that were near them, Zemo's figure walked past them. Looking at one another, Sam, Steve, and Bucky all followed after the Sokovian.
"What have you seen?" Steve questioned.
"They keep themselves hidden," Zemo stated simply. "If Allison finds Annika, I'm sure it will be over fast."
"And you're sure of that?" Steve continued.
"If the leader is removed from the equation, the followers have no choice but to run to new solutions," Zemo shrugged. "The moment they begin to run for new solutions, they will be found."
"Luring them out," Sam deduced.
"Precisely," Zemo nodded. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I am going to continue looking."
All three men watched as Zemo departed from them. Sam and Bucky shared a look, each vividly remembering what Zemo was like when the Flag Smashers were the ones they were facing off against.
"I'd wonder where T'Challa is, but I wouldn't be surprised if he were right around us," Bucky sighed.
"Come on," Sam sighed. "Let's keep going, especially if any of the others need us to come and step in."
The young man that had attempted to trick Allie wasn't much of a talker. He briefly stalled as Allie had a sharp stare, demanding to know where Annika was at. She deduced that he was incredibly young, maybe barely around twenty. He was fearful and it was clear to her that he had never truly seen a fight like he was surrounded by now.
As loud, jarring noises sounded around them, Allie only glanced back in the direction of the noise for a split moment before turning back to the kid, glare narrowing as she waited for his answer.
"She's hidden," he sputtered out.
"I figured that," she deadpanned. "Take me to her. Now."
He only paused for a moment before nodding and guiding Allie throw twisting alleyways. Ice covered brick buildings sat around with the glow of fire bouncing off of the slick surfaces. Allie knew that it was Annika. It didn't take much to know that it was her. As she came to a clearing, she could just made out the figure of the other woman.
"Annika!" she called out. "It's time to stop this."
"Do you feel nothing seeing the lab?" Annika faced away from her. "The destruction that you left behind?"
"I still have nightmares of it," Allie confessed.
"Nightmares aren't the same as guilt," Annika countered as she turned around. "Do you feel remorse? Do you care that they all died?"
"Of course I care," Allie shook her head. "I've said it many times before. I never meant for what happened to happen."
Annika scoffed as she took a few steps in Allie's direction. Allie vaguely thought to when she and the others had gone after Zemo to stop him after he had framed Bucky. He was hurt by things that had happened on accident as well. Sighing, Allie held her hands up in front of her in a peaceful gesture.
"I don't want to hurt you," she assured Annika. "That's not what this is about."
"Then what is it about? Don't think that I don't know that there are others," Annika spat.
"And don't think that I don't know that you have others as well," Allie countered. "None of my team wants to hurt you."
"Is that right?" Annika's voice revealed her distrust.
"It is," Allie assured her once more. "Annika, there is destruction going on right now. Does anyone else need to be hurt for this to be over?"
"I don't care anymore," Annika's voice was smooth and eerie.
Allie glanced behind Annika and took in the sight that was surrounding them. She could hear the screams of those that were scared by what was going on. There were the sounds of her teammates rushing around the area as they attempted to stop what was happening. She knew that the others of Annika's followers were spread around, causing more destruction. If Annika didn't tell others to stand down, Allie was going to have to do what she didn't want to do. Fight her.
"Please don't make me do this," Allie pleaded with Annika.
"You killed him," Annika's voice was soft and pained.
"Please," Allie attempted to plead one last time.
Annika only took in a deep breath before reaching out her hand and attempting to blast Allie backwards with ice. Allie was able to react quickly as she brought her hands up, deflecting the ice that Annika had sent her way.
Where Sharon stood, she held her pistol cautiously as she continued to walk along the grass. Hearing the loud steps nearby, she quickly made her way over before sighing in relief as she realized that it was Steve and Bucky.
"Do you think she's found her?" Steve asked as he noticed Sharon.
"I'm not sure," Sharon sighed. "Who does she have with her right now?"
"She's on her own," Steve looked past Sharon as he noticed fire glowing.
"You guys let her go off on her own?" Sharon glared at them.
"It's Allie, she's strong enough and capable enough to be on her own," Bucky assured her. "Trust me, it's taken me a long time to realize that too."
"I don't care," Sharon frowned. "She deserves to have backup with her. I'm going to go help her."
"Sharon," Steve sighed.
"No," she shook her head. "I'm going."
Without another word, Sharon took off looking for Allie.
"Who would have known both of us would have headstrong wives," Bucky let out a small chuckle.
Sharon's footsteps were careful and soft as she followed the glowing of fire and ice that would appear in quick succession. Running onto the scene, she noticed as a boy slipped into the shadows, fear still etched in his expression. Looking back to the scene in front of her, she realized that Allie and Annika were fighting.
Relying on instinct, Sharon began to run in their direction before she was noticed by Annika who sent her flying backwards with a spray of ice. Allie's eyes flicked over.
"Sharon! Get out of here!" she yelled as held off another of Annika's attacks.
"You can tell me to leave, but I won't," Sharon called back to her. "Not like last time."
"I'm serious, leave," Allie repeated.
"Nope," Sharon called as Annika's glance shifted back to her.
In a split second, Annika had raised her hand once more at Sharon. As ice left her hands, Allie attempted to shield Sharon with a wall of ice. It was quickly shattered by Annika's blast. It was at that moment that she regretted not learning about what the remaining two frequencies had been in control of. Without thinking, she decided to throw caution to the wind as she looked at the ground.
"Fuck it," she muttered to herself as she concentrated on the dirt and rocks beneath and around Sharon. Focusing intently, she didn't expect much until she saw one pebble move. Brows raising before furrowing again, she held her concentration and found the ground shaking as it piled up in front of Sharon.
"What the hell?" Sharon's voice could be heard from the other side of the mound.
"Well, shit," Allie muttered to herself. "Found another one, Sharon!"
"I'll be damned," Sharon's whisper was hushed, but still audible.
Annika was staring at the mound as well before she turned to face Allie. Allie simply smirked over at her. Annika's seemingly shocked expression faded quickly.
"So we do have more power," she muttered.
"It looks like we do," Allie agreed, hoping that in her shock, Annika was calming down. Despite her hope, she was prepared to raise her hands at any moment to defend herself and Sharon.
"And yet, if you'd have stayed, we would have known this years ago," Annika spat.
"If I had stayed, I would have only been a lab rat to them," Allie countered. "You and I are both aware of that. I'm telling you the truth that I never meant for what happened that night to happen. What happened to your boyfriend, what happened to you, what happened to the others. I will never agree with what they put me through, but you can be assured that I didn't purposefully do it."
"Bullshit! I saw you! I saw your face!" Annika cried out.
"I was scared and hurt, Annika," Allie took in a breath. "Do you know what it's like to find out that you've had seventy years taken from you? Because I do. My brother does. My husband had his autonomy taken from him for that long. It's a horrible thing, Annika."
"Annika, you need to stop this," Sharon had appeared from behind the mound. "Allie's not the enemy."
"I want to help you," Allie nodded. "We can learn more about that formula and how it changed us. There's still one frequency left that I don't know."
"Fire, ice, air, earth," Sharon listed off. "It sounds like they intended for their army to be able to control the elements and the earth around them."
"And yet it can be used for good," Allie tagged off of Sharon. "Annika, you and whoever else has these powers, we can change for the better."
For almost a brief, split second, Allie watched Annika seemingly think about what they were saying. A brief second of hope that everything may finally be over. It was shattered in an instant as Annika frowned.
"No," her voice was firm as she quickly turned and wind began to bluster as she held her hand out towards Sharon. Concentration was evident on her face as she twisted her hand and Sharon screamed in pain. She'd used the air around Sharon to break her leg.
"Sharon!" Allie yelled.
Annika had turned back to face her. The anger and fury had stayed with Annika. Lifting her hand and continuing to use the wind and air around them, Allie felt as she began to have trouble breathing. Annika was beginning to choke her.
It was funny how things could happen to you more than once in your life. For Allie, she hadn't truly thought of the fact that there would be two times in her life that she could think of that she was being choked. The air cut off from her. The edges of her vision blackening and the space that she could still see growing smaller.
Yet there she was, Annika cutting off her air in the same manner that she had done to Annika herself when they had been in Washington D.C. before Steve had gone missing and she thought that her kids lives were in danger.
"I should thank you for showing me this ability," Annika glowered at her. "I thought you may appreciate knowing how it feels."
"Annika, please," Allie didn't know if the words truly uttered from her lips in the moment. She wasn't sure if anything left her body apart from her struggling breaths.
"Annika!" Sharon's voice shouted.
"Stay out of this," Annika kept her hold on the air around Allie as she glanced away for only a moment to blast a wave at Sharon, knocking her backwards with a painful grunt.
Allie knew that in Annika's rage, they'd both been lifted above the ground. She had nothing to cling onto as she tried to beg Annika to let her breathe. It became more personal as Annika came closer, the air no longer being the only thing to take away her air as Annika's hand wrapped around her throat, intent on finishing the job with her own hands.
"Annika, please," Allie attempted to croak out once more.
"Annika, don't let yourself become the villain," Sharon pleaded once again, groaning as she leaned up to look.
"All three of us are villains," Annika spat as she maintained her glare on Allie's reddening face. "The differences between us are clear. You both deny being the villain, I don't."
"Annika, Allie is not the villain," Sharon tried to reason with her. "She was a victim, but look at how far she's come. She survived. You can too, you just need to let Allie go."
"You will never be a hero," Allie watched the tears form in Annika's eyes as she spoke.
"Many people would disagree with that," Sharon frowned.
"Many people are wrong."
The last word that left her lips was the last that she intended to utter as she squeezed around Allie's throat with more pressure. Brows furrowed, Allie attempting to bring her arms up to pry Annika off of her to no avail, Sharon watched in horror before reacting on instinct. It was a flash of movement that felt as if it moved through Jell-O. Sharon wasn't fully aware of the moment that the cool metal came to be in her hands as she rose the pistol and pointed.
The deafening blast rattled in Allie's ears. Her jaw dropped and Annika's did the same. Holding eye contact, the two looked down to see Annika's abdomen turning red. Allie fell out of Annika's grasp as the two both found themselves back on the ground. Allie was choking for air as her vision began to slowly come back. Despite her struggling, she watched as Annika was about to lose her balance. Reaching out despite the pain she was in, Allie caught her.
Allie dropped herself to the ground, gently laying Annika on the ground in front of her. Not far from her view, Sharon lowered to the ground, pistol still sitting in her hand. Allie and Sharon only made eye contact for a brief moment before Allie's eyes were locked on Annika's. It wasn't hard to hear Annika's struggle to breathe as the wound quickly took its toll. Allie's instincts brought her hands to the wound where Annika hissed and glared at her.
"Let me help you," Allie pleaded.
As awful as her actions had been, Allie couldn't help but still feel bad for Annika. She'd been a teenager when the lab had gone up in flames. As far as Allie was concerned, she didn't need to die.
"No," Annika bit out. "I'll see you in Hell."
Horror washed over Allie as she watched Annika's breathing slow before ceasing altogether as she stared up at the darkening sky. Her breathing shallow, Allie looked up to the sights in front of her. Heart dropping to her stomach, she knew that people were still trapped in the ice and behind fire. Annika and her followers had finished each blast that they'd done, trapping her friends and innocent lives even in her death and their elusiveness.
"Allie?" Sharon's voice was raspy as she laid on the ground a ways away.
"She's gone," Allie glanced over at her. "But, they finished all of that fire and ice and now the people are trapped."
"I know," Sharon nodded as she took in a deep breath, dropping the pistol to the ground and looking to her leg, wincing at the sight.
"You were out there. How many people are trapped?" Allie looked between the buildings that were covered in ice, a ways away a person even caught in ice.
"Too many," Sharon groaned.
"I need to help them," Allie sighed as she looked back down to Annika, closing her eyes
"Allie, there's no way to get to them," Sharon groaned as she attempted to crawl over.
"There is a way. It just won't be pleasant," Allie looked to the ground.
"Allie, no," Sharon shook her head. "It causes you too much pain. Think about what happened last time."
"Sharon, it's the only way I know to get them out now," Allie frowned. "It worked then and it will work now."
"This isn't just a shelter we're looking at! If you do this, you could die," Sharon's eyes were widened in terror.
"And if I don't do this, they will," Allie pleaded.
The two women held each other's gaze for just a moment more before Sharon nodded and Allie stood up. She took in a deep breath and gently began pulling in her own ice as she heard yelling still echoing across the battlefield.
It began in wisps. The ice that she had made was the first thing to make its way to her. It moved quickly across the ground as it snaked through alleyways. It was something that Allie was accustomed to. She knew her own powers like the back of her hand. It was when the next waves of wisps began that it changed.
The wisps began to move at a much slower pace, winding around objects and people as they too moved in Allie's direction. Members of the team began to watch as it would flow past them, the sparks from fire shining against their faces. Wanda and Peter were still swinging against the scene, determined to help break people free from the ice.
As Steve turned to face Bucky where they stood on the battlefield, they both looked down at the strings of fire rushing past them. Each of them took a look at where the strings of light began and followed them and there path. Looking back up to one another, Steve's brow rose.
"She was able to talk Annika down?" he suggested.
"Look at how slowly this fire is moving, though," Bucky pointed out. "If Annika was dissipating her own fire, it would be moving much quicker than this."
"And that would mean?" Steve asked slowly.
"Oh god, she isn't doing what I think she's doing," the blood drained from Bucky's face as he looked Steve in the eye.
"Oh no," Steve realized what Bucky meant.
"Shit! And Sharon went to find her!" Bucky didn't hesitate to take off in the direction that fire was going.
As he ran, more bursts of fire and ice cascading in the direction he went. Yelling could be heard and it didn't take long to realize that it was Allie, and she was in pain. Above, Sam was flying in the same direction having caught a glimpse of what was taking place from the sky. Swooping down towards Allie, he was knocked back by wind that surrounded her.
"Allie!" Bucky called out, but there was no response. "Allison!"
The wisps of fire that surrounded Allie's body didn't stop. Instead, it grew and grew, her yelling more intense with each wisp that began to wrap around her. It was a ball of oranges and yellows, brightly shining against a dimming sky. Whipping wind that surrounded her lifted her from the ground, a ball of fire in the sky instead of the ground. Bucky became frozen in place as he watched Sam try once more to reach her before being thrown back once more.
The fire was intense, just as the newly forming wind was. Hair blowing into faces, Sharon watched, a frown etched onto her face as she saw Allie's silhouette in the midst of the ball. From where he stood, Steve had a hand covering his face from the bright and blinding glow. Bucky couldn't find it within himself to care to cover his eyes.
As the last of the wisps found themselves wrapped around Allie and she finally started to lower back down to the ground, the fire finally dissipating. She struggled to breathe as she looked forward through a hazy cloud in her vision. She could just barely make out the glint of her husband's vibranium arm as she began to let her eyes raise up.
Eyes met between Allie and Bucky before hers rolled back and her body collapsed to the ground.
