Luna Baby

Peter held Luna close to him. This isn’t something that a princess should worry about. With how young she was, she should just be studying and playing. His precious baby shouldn’t be stressed out about these things.

That is how The Professor found them. It was probably he had no been looking for them because she has been shouting for her daddy earlier. Great. Now he’s going to have to explain to him that Luna is his daughter. He never wanted to tell the others about Crystal or Luna. He doesn’t think they are ready to know about the Inhumans. The idea of aliens are not something people like to think about. Most people don’t believe in aliens so he wasn’t sure how they would react.

“Peter, thank you for finding her. Now, has she told you who her father is? Because no one else has any idea who she is. But she seems so sure that her father works here.”

Peter sighed, “Yeah, she is mine.”

“….What?”

“Professor, meet Luna Amaquelin Maximoff. Normally she lives with my ex-wife but there is some trouble back home, so until things settle Luna is here to stay with me.“

“…What?”

Peter looked over and saw that The Professor was very shocked right now. He’s not sure how much of the information The Professor is actually getting right now. Maybe that means he can get out of this without having to explain much.

The professor look at him a little more sharply after that. Ah, he caught that didn’t he. Rats.

“Peter, explain please.” He wheeled himself closer to them.

Okay, how would he go about explaining his ex-wife and everything to do with that side of the family. Considering her powers, that may be the easiest trying to explain. Everything else about her and that side of the family it’s a little more troubling. “What do you want to know?”

“Well, you said that you have an ex-wife. Maybe start there.”

Oh, he did catch that. How is it that he always catches what he doesn’t want him to see. And how would he even go about explaining Crystal?

“Well. Her name is Crystal. She has the power of the elements. And we have been divorced for a few years. I don’t know what else there is talk about this topic.”

“Alright, then what about Luna?”

Peter smiled as he looked down at her. “My little miss cute as a but ton. Well, she is our only child. She is the love our lives. I’ll be honest, she was the only reason we stayed together as long as we did. Crystal and I were almost always fighting. So, we decided that we didn’t want that kinda environment for her, so we got divorced. It hurts to be away from her, but Crystal was more prepared to take care of her. And I’ve always been a well known mutant and Luna would be in danger if she was in my custody all the time.”

“Would she really be in danger with you? You know that you could have came to us for help.”

“Yes, Stryker had been sniffing around me and my family about the time of the divorce. Plus, this was all before I came here. So to make sure Luna stay safe we decided she would live with her mother. Plus, Crystal has a family business so now Luna can learn about it earlier then we expected.” It probably isn’t right to call it a family business, but there’s no way he could explain that his ex is royalty. That is a whole another layer of things to deal with. And honestly if he can get away with it, he’s not telling nobody here. It’s none of their business. Don’t get him wrong, these guys are his friends but that doesn’t mean he has to explain family drama to them. He’s only explaining this to The Professor, because The Professor is his boss.

“A family business?”

“Yeah. Right now Crystal’s sister is in charge, but even so there’s a lot of things each member of the family has to do to keep the business running.“

“Well, that is good. You mentioned that she would be staying for a while, do you know for how long?”

“No, we don’t know how long the situation back home is going to be going on. So there isn’t a definite time as of right now.”

“Well, she welcome for as long as you need.”

“Thank you so much.”

And with that Charles wheeled away.

“…Is that true daddy?” Luna’s voice was so quiet.

“Baby, how long have you been awake?”

“A while.”

“….Well, yes. A bad man who doesn’t like people who are different was coming a little too close when your mom and I were getting divorced. So, to keep you safe your mother and I decided you would go with her.”

“But why? I wanted to stay with you.”

“ I know Luna. But part of being a parent is doing what is best for your child. You mom and I thought that it was the best way to keep you safe.”

“But how did the man know?”

“Because your daddy did stupid things as a kid. I didn’t think about the consequences of my actions and it came back to bite me.”

“Is that why you always tell me to think?”

“Yes, you got a bigger brain then daddy and I want you to use it.”

“Okay daddy.”

Soon enough after that Luna started to get bored, so Peter took her to the playground on school grounds. It is a new edition for the younger students to play on. When they got there, it was incredibly crowded. But Luna still wanted to play. So, with one final look at him; she ran off to play.

He sat on the bench and watched the kids play. After a while, the other kids noticed that he was there. They got excited and ran over to hear his stories.

“Quicksilver, what are you doing here? Normally you don’t come to the playground.”

“Yeah, what’s wrong?”

“Did something happen?”

He put his hands up to try and calm the kids down. “Oh there, nothing is going on kids.”

“Then why are you here?”

He leaned in close, “Can you kids keep a secret?”

Most of the kids said, yeah absolutely. One kid gave him a flat no. And Peter can’t tell if the kid was trying to be funny or being honest. He smiled at the kids then pointed out Luna. “My daughter is here visiting and she got bored of just sitting around, so we came here to play.”

The kids were all shocked. They had no idea the Quicksilver was a dad. Dad’s are lame. And sometimes really mean. So, how can an X-Men be a dad? The kids all started to shout out their questions.

“Is she really your kid?”

“Where does she normally live?”

“Why is she visiting?”

“Does she have powers?”

“How old is she?”

“Is she fun?”

“Is she shy or something?”

“Yeah, she didn’t try to talk to nobody. She just started playing.”

“I thought dad’s were mean and scary.” That one was quieter than all the other questions, so much so that Peter almost didn’t hear it. But he did and it broke his heart.        

“Hold on kids, one at a time.” He took a deep breath before he started to tell them. “Yes, Luna is my kid. Typically she lives with her mama. There are issues back home so until they are resolved, she is here to stay. Yes, she has powers. She has the power to perceive and alter a person’s aura for various effects. What that means is, she has empathy,telepathic resistance and precognition. She is six years old. She is tons of fun. No she is not shy, but she isn’t used to other kids. Typically the only kids she sees are her cousins. And they are a lot older than her, and most of the time they’re too busy to play. So she’s not used to playing with other kids. I was hoping that while we are here, you guys could help with that.”

“….As for dad’s being mean.” He wasn’t sure how he could answer that. “Well…uh…..dad’s are not supposed to be mean. We are supposed to…”Crap, what are father supposed to be?!  Think Peter. Think. “….We are supposed to protect our kids. We are typically the first line of defense for you kids. We love our kids. I can still remember Luna being put in my arms for the first time. My whole world has shifted, and at that moment all that mattered was  that little girl. She quickly became my everything.” He smiled at them. He’s probably messing this up. But he doesn’t know how to describe a dad. This whole time he’s just been winging it as a father.

“If you left her so much why don’t you talk about her?”

 “I don’t want her to be in danger. As a teenager I did a lot of stupid things, so people know that I am mutant. And I got scared. I don’t want her to be in danger because of stupid things I’ve done in the past. So, when me and her mom decided not to live with each other anymore we decided she would go with her mom. People don’t know who her mom is or where they live. And if that’s what we have to do to keep her safe and that’s what we gotta do.“

“Why were talking about her put her in danger?”

“Because no one here can keep a secret. Remember how all of you found out who my dad is. I had been a secret too. And all of you found out within a week.”

The kids giggled a little as they remembered finding out. Raven can’t keep her mouth shut about gossip. And that’s one of the reasons he can’t tell her about Luna. She wouldn’t be able to shut up.
