Chapter 4
All to soon, it was time to get the little ones back into the school. There was the usual grumbling and complaining but everyone went without too much fuss. Luna was able to stay a tiny bit longer before Peter lead her back to his room.
Lockjaw was snoozing away on the floor, which in retrospect made it incredibly difficult to make their way to the bed. But they managed. He put on some music and then stood on the bed. He reached his hand out for Luna to take.
“Mommy says that I can’t stand on the bed.”
“At her place, that maybe the rule but here…” He was able to get her to stand up, then they were jumping and dancing all around. “Here, you can.”
It didn’t take long for Luna to get into the spirit of things. They were having so much fun. And when they got tired, they plopped down on the bed laughing. It was amazing that such a simple activity could bring so much joy.
Luna gigged as her feet kicked. It’s fun just taking a moment to enjoy the simple things in life. Even if it’s just the two of them jumping on the bed.
Now as all of this was going on, the kid that said no, he was not joking. As soon as he was back inside of the school, he started to tell everyone he could. It’s part of his power, he is not able to keep a secret. It’s a bad side effect in situations like this. In no time at all; the whole school knew about Luna. Now whether or not they believed it was another story.
Erik was patrolling the corridor. Now normally they don’t start patrolling until late at night, but he just can’t seem to handle himself right now. So, to clear his mind he was patrolling. As he was passing Peter’s room, he heard a little girl’s giggling.
That was an odd sound to hear in Peter’s room. Most of the time, when you walk passed, you can hear music. Whether it was rock or something else depends on the day. But a little girl is not so normal. Maybe one of the students was looking to borrow one of his cassette tapes. Erik knocked on the door and waited. After a minute Peter opened the door.
“Hey man, what’s up?”
“Peter, why am I hearing a little girl in your room?”
“My daughter is visiting for a while.”
That got Erik to stop and look at him. “….You have a daughter?” His voice was quite. “I thought that was just a rumor.”
“Rumor?”
“The entirety of the school is talking about it. I thought it was just a rumor a child started.” That got Erik to think. That means that he is a grandfather. He has a granddaughter.
Peter saw his dad get could up in the fact. He couldn’t imagine what is going through his mind. “Well, she is here if you want to meet her.”
Erik’s voice got caught in his throat, so all he could do was nod. Peter stepped back to let him in the room.
The first thing that Erik noticed was the giant dog in the middle of the room. It was bigger than any he had seen before. It took a bit to tear his eyes away but when he had, he immediately caught sight of a blonde little girl on the bed. She seem to be having the time of her life jumping on the bed. He took a single step forward before the dog awoke.
The dog was up and growing at Erik before anyone could blink. Immediately Peter got in front of him and put his hand out. “No Lockjaw. This is not an enemy. Stand down.” Peter kept repeating these phrases until the dog finally back down. Or really, he just stopped growling.
“Daddy?” Luna stopped jumping to look at them properly.
“Luna, don’t you want to meet your grandfather?”
“Grandfather?”
“He is my dad, making him your grandfather.”
Luna slowly got down but Lockjaw would not let her get closer. His job is to protect her and he is not going to let some stranger close to her.
Peter was certain that Lockjaw was annoying his father but when he turned to look at him he was smiling.
Erik was a little miffed that the dog was not letting him get close to his granddaughter, bud the dog is just protecting her. And with his size Erik doesn’t imagine much can get past him. Who knows what a dog that size could do to a man trying to come after her. So, while it is an inconvenience he can’t get close to her it’s all in the name of protecting her.
“Dad, I’m so-“
Erik was already waving Peter’s apology away. “He is only protecting her, and that is always a good thing. You said his name was Lockjaw, yes?” When he saw Peter nod he turned back look at the pair. “I am a stranger coming close to someone he loves. He has every right to try and protect her from me.” He was tremendously happy that the youngest member of his family is such a fierce protector.
