Luna Baby

Peter went ahead and showed her his room so she could put down her stuff and Lockjaw could take a nap.  He held her hand as they walked downstairs. She can get pretty excited and when she does, she likes to run ahead. Normally that is fine but she doesn’t know where anything is here. So, until she gets a lay of the land she’s going to stay next to him. When she has a general feel of the place, then she can run wild.

Now that the shock of her appearing has started to wear off, Peter has started to think of some things that they can do. And hopefully she enjoys her self while she’s here. Because he doesn’t get to see her that often, and he wants to enjoy the time they have together.

“So, what do you want to do baby?”

“I want to see the school.”

“You want to see the school? But school’s are boring. Don’t you want to do something fun?”

“I like school. My tutor told me that’s where other kids learn, and I like learning.”

And that right there, is one of the reasons Luna is going to be a smart princess. Whenever he would read her stories about princesses, she would always wonder why they would have to be saved by men. So she always swears that she be smart enough that she would not need to be saved. And she’s already got a good head start, she has strong female role models in her life; in the shape mainly of her mother and her aunt. And that’s just on her mother side.

“It’s a good thing you like to learn. I won’t lie, I didn’t and I would skip class whenever I could. I regret that now. Don’t be like daddy, learn all you can. Then you could know everything in the universe.” He spread out his arms, to try and express just how much she’ll know.

“Everything?” Her eyes sparkled with excitement.

He was so happy that she wanted to learn. He was such a horrible student and he would worry about her. She could be a lot like him, and he would worry about that she would pick up his bad habits too. So the fact, she is so excited about school is great.

He lead her down to the kitchen to make her something to eat. It wasn’t anything too fancy, as he doesn’t have the same skill as his mother at cooking. But Luna really seemed to enjoy it. She had the biggest smile as she ate.

He misses this. He misses just being able to spend time with Luna. Nowadays he only gets her for like a weekend or so. But from what he’s hearing, it sounds like she’s going to be here for at least a week. Most likely more. And that means he gets to spend a lot of time with his daughter. But most of it will be stuff to distract her. Because well he’s glad to see her, her mother and that side of the family it’s fighting right now. They’re fighting to defend in their home. Luna is still too little to understand that, and hopefully she won’t have to understand that for years to come. So he just hast to distract her and hopefully she won’t ask too much about her mom. It seems like she already understands a bit. Because of what her mother said to get her down here. But hopefully it is not too much.

“Daddy, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing sweetie, just grownup stuff.”

“What kinda grownup stuff?”

“The kind that daddies got to worry about and not little princesses.”

“I don’t like that.”

“I know sweetie. But that is part of life. We got to do things we don’t like.”

He probably brought the mood down, because after that Luna started to seem upset. He wasn’t trying to make her upset, he just doesn’t want her to worry. It’s bad enough that his ex-wife hast to deal with Maximus and all that nonsense. He doesn’t want their daughter to be worrying the whole time she’s here. He wants her to have fun like she normally does when she’s with him. But he probably should’ve seen what was coming.

“Why do things have to change?”

That really caught him off guard. He didn’t think things had changed that much recently. “Luna, what do you mean by that?”     

“…..Daddy, do you still love mommy?”

“Where is this coming from?”

She looked so hurt when she looked at him. It broke his heart.

“Okay, uh…..” Peter thought for a minute before answering her. “Well, I love your mommy, but I am not in love with her anymore.”

She gave him a confused look, “What does that mean?”

“It means, that I love your mommy because she brought me you. I will always love her because she is your mommy. But I don’t love her the way a married couple loves each other. We tried that. And it just didn’t work for us. What brought this up all of a sudden?”

“Mommy is getting married.” She had tears in her eyes as she said this. Why does she have tears in her eyes?

Oh, he hadn’t heard about that. Well, good for her. He probably isn’t going to remarry. He’s gone down that road and he really can’t see anyone keeping up with him. So it’s probably better just to stay single.

“Is he nice?”

“I guess.” She was looking down at her feet.

“…Do you not like him?”

“I don’t know. I miss you.”

“….Luna, is there actually something going on back home? Or did you sneak here to come see me?“ If there is something going on then they will do want he’s been forming in his head for the two of them. But if she just came here because she missed him then he’s got a call Crystal and let her know that she’s okay and try to figure out what to do. Because kids don’t just run away. They’ll have to figure out what is going on in her head. I mean if this big change is scaring her then the three of them will have to sit down and talk it out.

She handed over to communication device. Oh she must’ve heard what he was thinking. He pulled her in close and called Crystal.

It took a few rings but she did answer.

“Pietro? Why are you calling? Is everything okay with Luna?”

“Yes, she is alright. I was calling to double check a few things with you.”

“What do you mean?”

“Is there something actually happening there?”

“Yes, didn’t Luna explain it to you?”

“She did say something was going on, but she’s also talking a lot about the changes going on right now.“

“What about them?”

Peter sighed, “ I was trying to make sure she didn’t just run away to get away from all the changes.”

“Luna wouldn’t do that.”

“Crystal, she’s really confused and upset about these.”

 “She knows better then to run away from her problems.” He could hear the implied, unlike you his ex-wife was trying to lay down on him. He’s not going to fall for it. This isn’t about the two of them, this is about their daughter.

Luna was really getting upset listening to this. “ Crystal please, whether or not you remarry isn’t my business. It would only be my business if the guy was hurting you or Luna. I’m just asking that once the thing back home is done, that the three of us sit down and talk.”

She must’ve heard the desperation in his voice because she agreed. Normally something like this will turn into a huge fight between the two of them. But maybe in with them being so far away from each other now it’s starting to calm down. Or maybe and things are very hectic over there and she’s just trying to get off the phone quickly.

The call ended soon after.

Luna was really crying now. So, he held her close to him. “I know that things are scary right now, but I can guarantee that your mom and I will always love you. Things are changing right now, but that one fact will never change. And no matter where we are in this galaxy, know that there are people who love you.“

“It don’t feel like it. Mommy is always busy with that guy and you’re here.”

“…I can’t speak for you mom, but I can tell you were planning a wedding is a very busy time baby. As for me being here, even when we don’t see each other every day I keep you close to my heart. You are never far from my thoughts. I miss you so much, but most of the time it is much safer for you to be with your mommy.”

“Why?”

“…People don’t like those that are different. There are those out there that want to hurt us because we’re different. And if to keep you safe I’ve got a keep you away for me then that’s what I have to do. It’s like your aunt and uncle, they’ve got to keep people safe even if it hurts them.”

“…Okay.”

He kissed her forehead and held her tight. He wishes he could take the pain away. But all he can do is try and let her know just how much he loves her.
