Bucky

Alarms blared throughout the Avengers Tower.

"Someone's invading the Tower! Buck, you and Winnie get somewhere safe!" Steve ordered grabbing his shield.

Winnie began crying at her daddy's alarmed voice.

Bucky didn't pause to think. He grabbed Winnie and her diaper bag and ran towards the panic room that was behind Stark's closet.

It was the safest place in the Tower, but Bucky doubted that anything was truly safe with Hydra invading.

He knew it was them. He'd almost let his guard down and convinced himself that they wouldn't attack. But he should have known better...

"Lock the doors," he ordered J.A.R.V.I.S.

Winnie whimpered.

"Shh, it's ok." He knew that she was scared because she could sense his emotions. He needed to calm down. Taking a few deep breaths, he tried to not think about Steve and the rest of the Avengers fighting Hydra. He tried to not think about Hydra capturing them again. He tried not to think about what Hydra would do to Winnie.

Winnie was crying so hard that her breathing hitched.

Bucky curled around her so that she would only hear the beating of his heart. "I won't let anyone hurt you," he promised. He couldn't hear the alarms in here. He could only hear his own heartbeat and Winnie's irregular heartbeat.

They breathed together.

Stevie would protect them.

Bucky would never go back to being a mindless, muzzled soldier. He would never lose the memories of his family, of Stevie, of himself. He would never ever have to risk Winnie's life again.

Hydra would never ever take him again.

Winnie's small hand touched his face.

Bucky took a deep breath and started humming "Run Rabbit Run." His fear didn't matter.

The only thing that mattered was Winnie.

Bucky had kept her safe this long.

Hydra had never known about her. They just wanted him. They didn't even know that Winnie existed. Even if they found him, even if they managed to get into the panic room, they wouldn't take her. They'd only take him.

Winnie was safe.

Bucky kissed her and held her closer. He didn't want to say goodbye, but if he had to, he knew that he did everything within his power to keep her safe.
