Bucky
Getting away had been great, but Bucky was just happy to be home.
Steve was carrying in their duffles looking better rested than he had in a while. "I was thinking of ordering Chinese. That sound good to you?"
Bucky was suddenly starving. "Yeah, just make sure you get extra sweet and sour."
Steve muttered something about cravings but made the call anyway.
Bucky settled in the living room playing New Girl reruns. He could hear Steve putting things away and starting a load of laundry. He'd almost fallen asleep when the doorbell rang.
Steve answered it, but Bucky didn't bother listening.
In a few moments, Steve had joined him with enough Chinese food to feed an army and two large water bottles.
Bucky grinned and snatched his sweet and sour.
Steve made a face when he mixed it with his rice.
Bucky stuck his tongue out.
"You're lucky you're a cute jerk," Steve said handing him another wanton.
Bucky purred. "You sure know the way to my heart, punk."
Steve kissed his forehead. "I know your heart better than mine."
Bucky pulled him in for a real kiss.
They spent the rest of the night binge-watching and cuddling.
Eventually, Steve helped him to their bed, and Buck lost himself to sweet dreams of better times.
He woke with a start. "Stevie!"
Steve jerked awake.
"I think the baby's coming." Bucky was trying to stay calm, but that was easier said than done.
Steve practically jumped out of bed. He threw on some clothes and slung their overnight bag over his shoulder. "The quinjet's en route."
Bucky took a deep breath. "If Hydra's going to come, it'd be now."
"Don't think like that!"
"We'll be vulnerable and distracted."
"We'll be safe. We've thought this through."
"Just promise me you won't let them get her."
"Bucky..."
"If it's me or her. You save her. Promise."
Steve shook his head. "I can't."
"Please."
"I'll do whatever it takes to keep you both safe."
They heard the quinjet land.
Bucky wasn’t ready. He’d been holding onto his baby so tightly that he was terrified of letting go.
