Steve
They were still getting nowhere.
The files didn't have any information on where Buck would go or where he was. The files had plenty of information about what Hydra did to him like videos and pictures of torture and experiments. The files made him sick to his stomach.
He made himself read anyway. He needed to know what they did to Bucky, even if it killed him.
Nat insisted that he would go out of the country because that's what she would do.
Steve didn't think Buck would go far from Brooklyn.
But they'd looked everywhere that they could think of, everywhere that even whispered of anything that might be him.
"Cap, I get that he's your best friend, but why are you pushing yourself so hard? It's obvious he doesn't want to be found." Sam always looked too close, but he and the rest of the Avengers were curious.
They were all looking at him now.
But what could he say? The truth was a secret that he had died for once. "My da died in the war. My ma worked relentlessly to keep a roof over our head and food on the table, but times were tough. I was sick enough to put even more strain on her. I couldn't keep out of a fight to save my life. Everybody thought I'd be an Omega which would have made things even worse. If Bucky hadn't shown up when he did, I'd probably have died in an alley. Some bullies were picking on me for being little, sickly, and likely an Omega. I didn't have much power behind my punches, but I wasn't about to back down from a fight. Buck jumped in and probably saved my life. He wasn't much bigger than those bullies, but it was harder to beat both of us than just me. He dragged me to his home and had his ma patch me up. And just like that, he was there. Every time I got sick or over my head, he'd be there pulling me through it. He'd chew me out, but he'd patch me up anyway. After my ma died, he convinced me that it'd be cheaper to live together. He quit school and picked up as many jobs as he could to help pay for my medicine. I wanted to quit too, but he wouldn't let me. When he was drafted, he was terrified but not for himself. He was worried about me. He knew I'd do something stupid, and he was right. He only kept fighting 'cause of me. I should have sent him home, but I didn't know what to do without him there. Hydra wouldn't have had him if it weren't for me..."
There was so much more, but the highlights would have to do.
Steve wearily stood and walked out. He just wanted to go home, but his home didn't want to be found.
