Chapter 20
They remained quiet for a while when suddenly the door opened and Clint showed up behind it. He stopped a bit and ask “what’s going on, what’s with the long faces? I got pizzas” he said confusedly not knowing what was going on while holding up the boxes of pizza.
When he got to settle down with them on the couch, Maria started filling him in about the situation Natasha got herself into.
“I need to tell him the truth,” Natasha repeated full of disdain.
“Why do you have to? You can just go on and continue having fake amnesia, you’re happy now, both of you are. What’s the problem with that? Why ruin it?” Clint blurted out like it was the most obvious thing to do.
“So you’re telling her to continue pretending to have amnesia for the rest of her life, is that it?” Wanda intercepted unbelievingly. “Well, that's not fair is it!” she added.
“Unfair? How is it not fair?” Clint asked.
“Yes, it’s unfair she’ll make him look like a fool in the course of their relationship,” Wanda said determinedly.
Maria and Natasha just looked at the two bicker while weighing both of their reasoning.
“So what, that doesn’t matter as long as she’s happy because that is what she deserves.” Clint retorted dismissively.
“I know what to do.” Natasha blurted out and that stopped Wanda and Clint from their discussion. Maria looked at her curiously then suddenly all eyes were on her as if waiting for an explanation.
“I’ll tell him I hit my head hard and tell him I remember everything, that way he’ll never find out about my fake amnesia,” Natasha said, sounding like she’s trying to convince more of herself than her friends.
“What?” they all yelled unbelievably at her.
“How are you going to that Nat?” Maria asked confusedly.
“I’ll get myself into a fake accident.” She said not entirely convinced about it.
“You’re crazy Nat,” Clint said.
“Okay, let’s say we theoretically agree with your plan, what kind of accident would make him believe that you regained your memories?” Maria asked curiously.
That question got her thinking and started imagining scenarios on getting hit in the head and regaining her memories. She was trying hard to think about it, she even thought of bringing Steve to the gym and she would show off her boxing skills and eventually get by the sandbag hard and she’ll tell him she remembers everything. She found it ridiculous and didn’t dare to voice out that plan.
They could see she was struggling to think of any ideas and decided to cut her out of her struggle.
“Nat,” Maria called out to her “that plan, aside from being dangerous it sounds really stupid.” She laid out to her flatly.
She looked defeated and had that look that she agrees with Maria. She released a heavy sigh to them.
“Nat, you know what? It’ll be much easier if you just tell him the truth.” Wanda told her reassuringly.
She looked at her friends and could see that they all agree with Wanda and she too knows that it’s the right thing to do. She regrets lying to him, but she can’t do anything about it because what’s done is done and all she can do now is hope for the best, that he’ll forgive her about this and get past through this and start on a clean slate.
She made up her mind, she was going to tell him the truth and she has to do it soon, the sooner the better just like ripping off a bandage. Later that night she was about to call him and meet with him in the morning so she could tell him the truth, but he beat her to it, he texted her to get ready for tomorrow and invited her out for a surprise. “I guess it will have to wait till the evening.” She thought to herself.
