Chapter 21
The day after he proposed to Natasha, Steve gathered everyone in his place and told them about the news. Steve admitted that everything happened so fast and he didn’t plan any of it to happen even he was surprised at what he did. It felt so right at that time and he didn’t regret it one bit. The guys weren’t even surprised about it they knew that it was bound to happen one way or another.
“I’m telling her the truth.” He blurted out to his friends.
“Finally!” they chorused.
“I’m glad you finally earned the courage to tell her about it,” Bucky added calmly.
“I love Nat I want to marry her without keeping something from her. I want us to start fresh, no more secrets between us, I don’t want that anymore. That’s why she has to know and that’s what she deserves.”
“What if she says she doesn’t want this anymore? What if she says she won’t marry you after telling her truth?” Thor asked concernedly to Steve who looks like he was trying to imagine the scenario.
“But, what if she does want to marry him?” Rhodey countered Thor.
“Steve, what we want to say is are you sure about this? Once you do this there’s no going back from it you can’t hurt her you must never do that to her ever again.” Tony stated.
“You have your second chance so don’t screw it, we don’t know if there’s a shot for a third one so grab it like a last lifeline,” Sam added while patting his back showing his support for him.
“I’m just hoping for the best guys, sure there’s a huge possibility of me losing her again and I’ll deal with that if that comes, but there’s another possibility of her forgiving me and taking me back.”
“What I’m saying is I don’t wanna dwell on what-ifs anymore I have to find out the outcome may it be bad or good. If you love someone you gotta be accountable for the things you did right?” Steve uttered seriously.
Everyone seems to be taken aback by what Steve said, at that moment they realized how much he had grown. They could see the eagerness in his eyes to make things right for him and Nat. He is full of determination and you can see the love he has for the woman and they are willing to help and support him no matter what the outcome of this confession.
“We’re proud of you bud,” Bucky said sincerely
“Just learned my lesson Buck,” Steve replied solemnly.
When Steve told them about the plan he has in mind to tell Nat the truth, Tony immediately jumped into it and called Pepper for the necessary arrangements. The guys were all up for it too and helped tony out as well.
Steve looked at his friends and thought how lucky he was to have all of them not just as his friends but as a family as well. He just hopes that Nat would forgive him and would want to be with him again, so he can finally share this found family of his once again because she deserves all these amazing good people around her. That’s another thing he selfishly took from her when he left her. “I’ll make it right this time Nat.” he thought to himself.
“Everything is set!” Tony announced proudly after a couple of hours calling people for the arrangements.
Steve excused himself and texted Natasha to inform her about a surprise the next day. He was quite nervous so he didn’t talk to her and just texted her about it but he had to face the music and can’t put it off any longer. “Tomorrow is the day of either making it or breaking it,” he thought nervously and joined in with the guys once again. They could all see that he was filled with nerves so they tried to ease his mind out of it for now.
