Chapter 19
Natasha was able to take a break and Steve made sure to make use of it. They decided to explore the town and Steve brought her to his favorite spots where he would sit in a corner and sketch the scenery around him.
She remembered each place vividly, but she wasn’t ready to hell him that. The places he brought her to, were the places they used to go to and spend the entire time talking about the simplest thing, about how their day had been and it would even dive in deeper as they immersed themselves in one another.
The day continued with them having fun and just pure bliss everything felt so right and that brought warmth to her heart. She finally admitted to herself that she could never hate this man who’s right by her side now, she was done running from the past, she’s done feeling all the pain and anger towards him and she can honestly say that she was still in love with him that she never stopped loving him despite the pain he caused her.
They decided not to bring a car, they wanted to roam around without a plan and just be spontaneous about it. They found themselves in a subway as they made their way home it was packed and they ended up standing, then suddenly their song played along with the speakers. Steve gave her a playful grin and started singing along with it. She missed that, she noted to herself she missed that voice that would lull her to sleep at night, that voice when he would sing pouring his heart out as he makes them breakfast or when he would just burst out singing just because he feels like it. She suddenly had this urge to join him and that’s what exactly she did.
“Take my hand, take my whole life too, for I can't help falling in love with you,” she sang along with him and Steve gave her an ear-to-ear smile, she could see the gladness in his eyes and that brought warmth to her heart. She wrapped her hands along his neck while looking him in the eyes searching through his soul and all she could see was love in his eyes and she could no longer help herself she wanted to kiss him badly. Losing all restraints in her being she began closing the gap between them and kissed him passionately. Steve was gobsmacked for a second but eventually responded to it. They were a panting mess the moment they pulled away from the kiss. They looked at each other with pure love and Steve was looking so bright and so full of life, he was smiling like an idiot and he couldn’t get rid of the smile and pink flush on his face.
“If there’s one thing I’ll repeat in my life that would be the day when I met you. I’d do it again and again if you’ll let me. I love you so much, Nat.”
Natasha couldn’t hold it any longer and started bursting into tears, she was holding it in for so long that she couldn’t do anything when the floodgates went loose and all of her emotions are pouring out of her continuously.
Steve pulled out his dog tag pulled out the ring hanging from it and looked at her in the eyes showing the ring in front of her.
“Will you marry me?”
He asked her looking so determined while being scared of her answer as well.
She stood there frozen in front of him, she couldn’t believe he was asking her this again. She wasn’t thinking straight, she lost the ability to and all she did was throw her arms around him and awarded him a passionate kiss once again.
The people around them started cheering the moment Natasha threw her arms around his neck but it seems like she was wrapped around their bubble for her to notice anyone but Steve.
“So, was that a yes?” Steve asked her the moment she pulled away from him just to make sure.
She was still in tears and just nodded as an answer. Steve took her hand and put the ring on, they both looked down on her hand and gazed at it in amusement. The ring looked nothing like the ring he got her before. This one was a simple white gold ring with a great polish that reflects the simple diamond accents topped with a brilliant oval cut Emerald with a wonderful depth of color. Steve looked at her with nothing but love and adoration, he brought his hands on her cheeks wiped her tear-stained face delicately, and closed the gap between them once again.
She was still on cloud nine when Steve brought her home, but the moment she closed the door behind her that’s the time when everything that happened that day sank in her. She said yes to him and she was happy with that and don’t regret it at all, but suddenly a gnawing feeling crawled inside her and immediately thought of the lie she told him.
“I need to tell him the truth.” She blurted out.
Wanda and Maria looked at her curiously and confusedly. They were observing her the moment she got in and they saw the genuine happiness on her face but was suddenly filled with worry and that got them worried as well.
“What happened Nat?” Wanda asked her worriedly, “what’s going on? Did something happen?” Maria added.
“I need to tell him the truth.” She repeated once again and showed them the ring he gave her.
They looked at her shocked and then brought their gaze at the ring and then back to her. Her friends were speechless, but they have to admit that the ring was gorgeous. It’s simple and it screams elegance much like their friend Natasha, it suits her well.
