Chapter 6
Things were going well after that, until something changed.
"What's wrong?" Loki asked Nebula. She'd been acting differntly all day, tense and closed-off.
"Gamora's back," Nebula muttered, finally stopping avoiding the question.
"Gamora?"
"My sister."
Oh. Loki didn't know much about Nebula's sister, but it was enough to make him wonder if he could get away with killing her. Nebula had only mentioned her twice, but he'd heard Thanos's children talking about her a lot. Mostly to hold how much better she apparently was over Nebula's head.
"Do you want he to kill her?" he asked.
"No," Nebula snapped, and then relaxed a little. "I want to be the one to do it. To finally prove that I'm better than her. To win."
Loki nodded. He almost spoke again after a few minutes of silence, but someone entered the hallway. Nebula stood in an instant, and Loki did the same. He didn't know the new woman, which most likely meant one thing.
"Gamora," Nebula snarled, confirming his thoughts.
"Nebula." The reply didn't sound menacing, but Loki didn't relax. He still wanted to kill her, even if Nebula had told him not to. He wanted to make her pay.
Her gaze swung to him. "Who's this?"
Loki sketched a bow. "Loki of Asgard, at your service." For death, he added silently.
"He's here to get the Tesseract for us," Nebula told her sister. Loki grinned.
Gamora almost imperceptibly tensed. "I see." Loki studied her. Jealousy? No, he didn't think so. But why else would one of Thanos's most valued children not want Thanos getting his hands on another Infinity Stone. Did she just not trust him? Which, of course, she shouldn't, but that made her a threat.
"Well, I'm afraid we were busy," he told her, grabbing Nebula's arm and dragging her away. Gamora simply watched them.
Watching, but he wanted to know what she saw.
