Funnest Avenger
Ophelia and Peter stood in her kitchen just looking at each other for what felt like hours. But in reality it was only a few minutes. Neither of them spoke. They just eyed one another. Well Ophelia eyed Peter. Peter just stood moving his arms back and forth with an awkward smile on his face. The young man still as bouncy and happy as he was in Unique Vintage earlier that day.
"What are you doing in my apartment?" Ophelia finally asked. The water in the pot on her stove began boiling over and she flicked her hand and the lid of the pod moved to the counter with a wisp of red light. She never removed her eyes from Peter's.
"Smells delicious." Peter said peering over her to see the sizzling pan of tomatoes and onions in the pan on the other side of the stove. Ophelia cleared her throat and Peter audibly gulped.
"What are you doing in my apartment?" Ophelia asked again. This time her eyes returning to normal but holding irritation in her voice.
"Right! I uh don't meant to bother you miss. But after what happened today I got curious and decided to see if you were a bad guy or not." Peter said then turned his gaze back to the stove. Ophelia rolled her eyes and turned around to face the stove. Realizing Peter Parker wasn't a threat to her she resumed cooking.
"And am I?" Ophelia asked as she turned the stove off and poured the pasta into the strainer in her sink not looking at Peter who was obviously hungry and eyeing her dinner.
"Are you what?" Peter asked.
"A bad guy." Ophelia stated annoyed.
"Oh. Uh. No. Not a bad guy. I think." Peter replied. Ophelia poured the strained pasta back into the pot and then reached up and opened the cabinet above her head. She pulled out two bowls and moved her fingers. Red wisps wrapped around the bowls appeared and they floated to her kitchen table. Peter watched in awe at Ophelia using her magic so effortlessly. She scooped the tomato and onion sauce she made into the pasta and stirred it together. She then grabbed a kitchen towel and grabbed the pot of pasta and walked over to the kitchen table. She sat down at the table and spooned some pasta into each of the bowls. She flicked her wrist and forks dropped into the bowls from tiny portals. Peter stood bouncing on the balls of his feet waiting for an invitation.
"Come on." Ophelia said gesturing with her hand. Peter smiled and walked over to the table. He put his mask on the table next to his bowl and gave Ophelia a big smile. Ophelia looked around for a minute then snapped her fingers. A bottle of beer appeared in her hand and she easily flicked off the cap with her other hand. She looked over to Peter. "You want one?" Ophelia asked him.
"I'm not old enough to drink." Peter replied.
"How old are you?" Ophelia asked.
"Nineteen." Peter said. Ophelia nodded as she took a swig of her beer. She flicked her wrist and a bottle of water plopped next to Peter's pasta in a red mist. "Thanks." Peter said then began eating. "I would have had dinner already but I wanted to see if you were, you know, evil. And I didn't know when you would be home so I just waited here. Nice place by the way." Peter said cheerfully.
"How did you find out where I live." Ophelia asked leaning back in her chair. Peter froze with his fork still in his mouth. He looked over to her and slowly removed the fork from his mouth. A questioning look on Ophelia's face. He swallowed then laughed nervously. Ophelia raised an eyebrow. She could easily just look into his mind to find out but she wanted to avoid that if possible. He then reached into the back of his collar and pulled something out and tossed it to her. She caught it and sighed. "You stole my wallet." Ophelia stated then used her magic to teleport her wallet to somewhere out of Peter's sight. "Aren't you suppose to be Mr. Friendly or something?" Ophelia asked annoyed.
"Friendly neighborhood Spider Man." Peter corrected.
"Well stealing someones wallet isn't exactly friendly." Ophelia said then crossed her arms across her chest. Peter's eyes widened and he looked at her with slight guilt in his eyes.
"Sorry. But I didn't take anything from it. Scouts honor!" Peter said then saluted her. Ophelia couldn't help but let out a little laugh. This guy was ridiculous.
"What do you want Peter?" Ophelia asked him. Peter sat in silence for a moment and thought about her question.
"Your powers. They remind of someone that I work with. Her name is Wanda, she's super cool. I think you should meet her." Peter said very fast like he had rehearsed that sentence in his brain over and over again. Ophelia looked at Peter then pushed her hair behind her ears.
"So this coworker of yours. Is she an Avenger?" Ophelia asked.
"Yeah! She's really nice and she does this red spinny thing with her hands and-" Peter was cut off by Ophelia's hand in his face.
"I'll stop you right there. I'm not interested in your little group. Now please would you be so kind as to leave. I did not intend on entertaining quests this evening." Ophelia said then stood and made her way to her door. She opened the door and gestured for Peter to leave. Peter sighed and put his mask back over his head. He walked over to the door and walked out but paused in the door way.
"If you change your mind give me a call." Peter said then started reaching into the left sleeve of his suit. But before he could retrieve what he was grabbing Ophelia closed the door in his face. She clapped her hands together and smiled to herself. She took a step away from the door, latching it with her magic, when a white card was slipped under her door. She bent down and picked it up. It just had a few words on it reading Spider Man: Funnest Avenger and a phone number. Ophelia flung the card on her kitchen table and walked over to her bedroom. She was too stressed out to do dishes right now. She decided sleep would do her some good. She would deal with the mess in the morning. One of many.
