I'd do it again
There’s a teenager in the neighborhood that was advertising her babysitting service. She narrowed in and focused on those with younger children.
Robin kept getting printed ads in the mailbox for the girls babysitting service. She even sees the teenager around the neighborhood at times.
So Robin suggests to Melina that the two of them go out for a night along with some of Melina’s coworkers from SHIELD.
“That’s something parents do, I’m pretty sure,” Robin says, bringing the topic up as Melina is changing for work.
“I’ll ask around today,” Melina lets out a huff when her hair tie snaps.
“Come here,” Robin moves toward her. “Let me.”
Melina drops her hands from her hair to let Robin pull it up. Robin combs her fingers through her hair before braiding it back and then twisting it up into a bun. She pressed a soft kiss to the nape of Melina’s neck when she finished, feeling the woman in front of her shiver. “Done.”
Melina turns and kissed Robin, reaching up to wrap her arms around her neck and pull her close.
Robin smiles, nuzzling her nose against Melina’s. “I love you, sweet girl.”
Melina smiles. “I love you too, my love.” She said before pulling away to finish getting ready.
Robin sorts through the files in her office before reading one of the medical textbooks until it was time to pick the kids up from school.
Yelena wraps her arms around Robin’s knees when she sees her, burying her face into her legs. It’s the first time that Robin had picked Yelena up and the girl had been crying.
“Aw, my little one,” Robin pries Yelena’s fingers from her pants so she can scoop her up. “What happened?”
Yelena wraps her arms around Yelena’s neck. “Loud noises, mama.”
Robin frowns, rubbing her back. “Was that scary, my little one?”
“Big bangs,” Yelena nods her head, pressing her face into Robin’s neck.
“Some kids were setting off fireworks just down the street,” The worker explained to Robin.
Robin nods her head and carries Yelena out to the car. “My baby, it’s alright.” She kissed the top of Yelena’s head.
“Big noises and then the big man comes…” Yelena whispers and Robin paused from where she was buckling the girl in.
“What did the big man look like?” Robin asked, cupping the toddler’s face softly.
Yelena frowns before replying. “Big man. Scary.”
“Did he hurt you?” Robin’s thumb strokes the girl’s cheek.
“Owie,” Yelena nods, reaching up to her neck.
“It’s alright, baby,” Robin leans down to nuzzle her nose against Yelena’s. “Mama won’t let the big man hurt you again.”
Yelena was quiet on the ride to pick up Natasha. Natasha glances at Yelena when the young girl doesn’t shriek her usual greeting.
“Is she sick?” Natasha questioned, looking up at Robin.
“She had a rough day,” Robin replies. “Some kids lit off fireworks by the daycare and it scared her.”
Robin turns the radio up, unable to keep the frown off her face when Yelena doesn’t ramble along to lyrics that she doesn’t know the meaning of or making up words as she goes.
She glances up into the mirror to spot Natasha leaning over to Yelena’s car seat, whispering quietly as her hand grasped Yelena’s.
Robin glances away to give them a few moments as she drives. She pulls into the driveway of their home and moves to collect Yelena.
“Can I carry her?” Natasha asked Robin.
Robin looks down at Natasha in surprise. “Do you think you can?”
Natasha gives a determined nod and Robin sets Yelena down into Natasha’s hold.
“Your big sister is gonna hold you,” Robin says and Yelena winds her arms around Natasha’s neck.
Yelena is half of Natasha’s side but the girl barely lets Robin see her struggle. Yelena looks up at Robin and Robin can’t help but take a picture of them as they head up to the house.
Melina returns home that night and wraps her arms around Robin’s waist. “Tonight at that little bar down in town by the grocery store.” Melina said.
Robin turns to look down at her and smile, letting out a hum as Melina tiredly rests her head against Robin’s shoulder.
Robin calls the babysitter who happily accepts the job for that night.
Melina hadn’t seen Melina dress up before but can’t help but stare when Melina changes into a dress that night.
“You look beautiful,” Robin whispers to Melina, kissing her cheek as she wraps her arms around her from behind.
“Yeah?” Melina twists to smooth out the collar on Robin’s button-down. “So do you.”
Robin grins, leaning down to kiss her softly. Melina pulls Robin closer, deepening the kiss.
“We have to finish getting ready,” Robin murmurs against her lips and Melina reluctantly pulled away.
The teenager arrives early and Robin knows that she shouldn’t judge her but some part in the back of her mind reminds her that General Dreykov could have planted spies anywhere. So she reminds Natasha to behave.
The two adults head out to the bar around six that evening. Joel and Maxine were already there along with another coworker.
“Hey! It’s Lewis!” The coworker calls her by their fake last name.
Melina grabbed Robin’s hand and the two head into the bar.
A few other coworkers of hers show up and Robin sits with Maxine since they were the only two that didn’t work at SHIELD.
Robin finally gets her first taste of alcohol since the mission started.
Maxine gushes about Elliot and in turn, Robin talks about Natasha and Yelena.
Melina and her coworkers are chatting about work so Robin leaves Melina be.
It isn’t until Robin glances at Melina getting more drinks for the table when she sees a drunk patron slide up next to her.
Robin takes another sip from her glass as she watches the scene. She feels Maxine stop her story to follow her gaze.
The man tried to drape an arm over Melina’s shoulders and Melina moves away, collecting up the next round of drinks for the table.
The man grabs her wrist and Robin watches as she goes stiff. Melina could break cover right there.
So Robin makes a scene. “Let go of my wife, you asshole!” She slams her drink onto the table and is out of her seat and moving toward them. The man, startled at her sudden reply, lets her go.
“Didn’t know you were a dyke,” The man spat at Melina.
Robin pushes herself between them before shoving him back. “Go bother someone else.”
She feels Melina grab her arm and twists to look at her when a fist smashed against the side of her face.
Robin spins and slams her fist back against his. Melina grabs her shirt to yank her back when the man hits the ground out cold.
Melina’s gentle hands cup Robin’s face as Joel hurries over.
“Are you okay?” Joel asked with concern. “You took a nasty right hook to your face.”
Robin winces, reaching up to touch the red hot skin on her cheek. “I’ll be fine. I’ve had worse.” She gives him a smile.
The drunk is lead out when he regains consciousness and Robin is given a dishtowel wrapped around some ice for her face.
Melina pressed against her side and Robin drapes an arm around her. “I could have handled myself.” She whispers.
“I know.” Robin replies, kissing her temple before finishing the rest of her drink.
The rest of the night goes smoothly and the pair finally make it back home around midnight. Melina pays the babysitter while Robin heads upstairs to check in on the children.
Yelena is fast asleep in bed and Robin smiles slightly at the sight before moving to check on Natasha.
Of course, the girl wasn’t asleep. Robin doubted she would with a stranger in the house.
“You’re back!” Natasha sits up in bed as Robin approached her.
“I am. Was the babysitter okay?” Robin questioned, taking a seat on the edge of the bed.
Natasha shrugs her shoulders. “She was fine. She thought I was really little or something and talked to me like I was Yelena.”
“She’ll learn,” Robin said, reaching out to card her fingers through Natasha’s hair. “Did you behave?”
Natasha leans into the touch, nodding her head.
“I knew you would, my good girl,” Robin pressed a kiss to her forehead. “Come on. Lay down, now.”
Natasha settles back in bed and Robin adjusts the covers over her.
“Goodnight, sweetheart,” Robin said softly and Natasha peers up at her from under the blankets where she snuggled.
“Night, Robin.” She replies quietly as to not betray just how tired she truly was. Robin leaves the bedroom and moves toward the master bedroom where Melina was.
“Help me unzip?” Melina questioned and Robin steps forward to lower the zipper on the back of the dress. “You got hurt for me tonight. Again.”
Robin finished and the dress drops to the floor. “I know. I’d do it again.”
“Where did you learn to throw a punch?” Melina asked as she reaches out to undo the buttons on Robin’s shirt.
“It’s just something I picked up from the people I treated,” Robin said. “I’m nothing like you when it comes to fighting, though.”
“I can teach you,” Melina offered and pushed the shirt from Robin’s shoulders, leaning forward to kiss Robin’s collarbone.
“I’d like that,” Robin grasped Melina’s chin to pull her head up and kiss her softly. “I love you, sweet girl.”
“Show me.” Melina orders and Robin grins, pulling Melina closer.
