School AKA Even Worse Hell
In an average family, the first day of school would start like this:
The child would get up with an eagerness that would die later on. They would be excited to see their friends again, but the heavy weight of homework and tests would eventually make them sob internally. They would get out of bed and eat breakfast with their family, in a perfect and synchronized fashion that would die off later as they started to sleep in more. Then they would head off to work and school.
This was not what happened in the compound.
At exactly 7:00 AM, when everyone was meant to be eating breakfast and putting the last of their supplies in their bags, Peter was still asleep, Shuri was high on caffeine after pulling an all-nighter in the lab (something that would bite her in the butt later), Loki was with Steve, Bucky, and Sam in the kitchen, Tony was also high on caffeine in his own lab, Bruce was on his perfect schedule, and T'Challa had been up for hours because he was in Wakanda and was hours ahead.
At 7:15 AM, it was complete chaos. Yelling for missing items and eating half cooked toast before running out of the door to meet Happy at the car. The head of security was not amused.
"Are you guys gonna do this every day?"
"No," Peter said, "Just... forgot the date..." His eyes landed on the other two, "How the hell are you two--?!"
Peter has his usual clothes on, a t-shirt with some writing (this specific one read 'I survived my trip to NYC'), a grey jacket, and some dusty sweatpants. On the other side of the spectrum, both Shuri and Loki were perfectly organized and put together. Shuri had a t-shirt with a purple logo on it, a cardigan, and her hair in lots of tiny braids and pulled into two space buns. Loki's hair was brushed neatly and fell freely on his shoulders, wearing a black collared shirt and blue jeans.
"Peter, we both grew up in formal society," Shuri said.
"Everything was exhausting, but you learn how to put everything to the last possible moment and still turn out looking great," Loki added with a cocky grin.
Peter shook his head, adjusting the stack of books on his lap and taking mental note to buy a backpack after he lost his last one again. By the time they got to the school, the first bell was ringing to remind the students to head to class. They got out of the car and Peter grabbed their wrists to lead them through the winding hallways.
"Mr. Stark made sure we're in the same classes and we have lockers next to each other."
"What, he doesn't trust us on our own?" Loki raised an eyebrow.
Peter mocked the expression, "Do you trust yourself not to lose your cool and threaten someone?"
"Touché."
After pushing through the mob of students swarming the halls, they came to a set of lockers in between classrooms. Peter fiddled with the lock on one and punched it several times before it popped open. Shuri attempted to open her's and when the lock wouldn't budge, she pulled out a mini tool pack from her purse, because girls' purses were infinite wormholes for storing items. Loki tried opening his lock once, gave up halfway, and just lazily waved his hand to open the door. As Peter put all of his books in the little metal box, he felt a tap on his shoulder.
"Ned!"
The high schooler grinned at him, "Where were you? You haven't responded to my texts for an entire week before school!"
"Yeah, things have been a little hectic around the compound," Peter gave a guilty shrug, "Oh, Ned! You have to meet the newcomers! Guys!" He turned around and attracted the attention of Loki and Shuri, "Guys, this is Ned, my best friend and man in the chair."
"Hey."
"Hello."
"Hi," Ned gave an enthusiastic wave, "So, you're..." he lowered his voice, "You're related to the Avengers?"
"Not really a secret for us," Shuri replied, "I'm the princess of Wakanda and the Black Panther's little sister. I've been on television."
"You're the only one who can go parading around their entire true identity," Loki muttered, "I'm trying to hide from Ross."
"'Kay, so Ned," Peter said, "This is Shuri and Loki."
"You've been on tv," Ned pointed at Shuri, then at Loki, "But where have I seen you?"
Loki looked to Peter, "Does he...?"
"He knows about me and what my internship really is."
Loki nodded, "You've seen me on tv in 2012."
Ned stared for a second, trying to register what he said. Then, slowly, his eyes widened.
"Wait... you're--"
"That's behind him now!" Peter interrupted, "He's put all of that behind him, right?"
Loki shrugs and smiles, "I'll be good."
Peter let out a relieved sigh as the warning bell rings. The three slam their locker doors shut in unison and the group heads down to their shared home room class. Thankfully, they were all in home room 1A and MJ was there too. Sadly, so was Flash and his goons. They sat down near where MJ already was, in the middle and to the left side of the classroom. MJ was next to the window, Shuri to her right. In the row behind the girls, Peter was directly behind MJ, Loki was behind Shuri, and Ned was behind Flash, who was on Shuri's other side,
As they settled down, Mr. Harrington came in. He was the home room teacher and designated lunch monitor and chaperone on most occasions. He also ran the AcaDec team. He clapped his hands and got the attention of absolutely no one. He attempted this several times until MJ finally screamed for everyone to shut up. That got everyone quiet.
"Uh, thank you." Mr. Harrington said. "Now, let's just start with the regular stuff. Attendance first. Brant, Betty?"
"Here!" Betty called from the back.
"Banner, Loki?"
Loki blinked, glancing at Peter who motioned for him to copy, "Here?"
Mr. Harrington nodded and continued.
"Thompson, Eugene?"
"Here."
"Parker, Peter?"
"Here."
"Jones, Michelle?"
"Here."
"Leeds, Edward?"
"Here."
"Udaka, Shuri?"
"Here."
When Mr. Harrington finished with his list, he looked over the classroom, "So, as you all know, this semester the school received two new applicants for this grade. Most of you already know each other, but let's just do a little icebreaker exercise as I give out your schedules. I'll call out a random name, you come up here and say the things you like, dislike, and something important about yourself. Then collect your folder. Let's see..."
He began calling names at random. Some kids liked video games, the Avengers, and books. Then he called up Flash.
As expected, Flash stood boastfully in front of the class, "So, I like Spider-Man. I don't like people who fake having internships to look important." He looks directly at Peter and the class giggled, "And an important thing about me is is that I once helped Spider-Man fight a villain."
"Yeah, right." MJ muttered loud enough for everyone to hear and the class laughed louder.
Flash glared at her, grabbed his folder, and went back to his seat. Mr. Harrington called up Ned, who said he liked his friends and legos. Then he called up Peter, who said he liked movies, legos, engineering, and his friends. What he liked more was swinging above the city and helping people, but he wasn't allowed to say that. Then Mr. Harrington called up Shuri.
"Hi--" She began but Betty raised her hand.
"Are you the Princess of Wakanda? From tv?"
Shuri grinned, "Hell yeah, I am!"
Some boy named Wade raised his hand, "Are you and the other new guy related to the Avengers?"
"Yes. I'm the Black Panther's younger sister."
Shuri took her folder and sat back down as everyone stared. Mr. Harrington then called up Loki. Before he could start talking, someone called out. "Are you the other new kid?"
Loki went slightly red and nodded.
"Are you related to Bruce Banner?" Someone else asked.
"Yes. I'm his adopted child."
"Are you also a mutant?"
"No, I didn't get my powers in an accident."
"You have powers?!"
Loki shrugs, giving a sly grin, "You'll have to find out on your own. But if you want a hint, I'm also Thor's younger brother."
He didn't answer any more questions as he took his folder and sat down. Mr. Harrington was looking a little confused, but continued to call names until everyone was done. Then the bell rang for the five minute period between classes, when students could grab their books from their lockers. The group came together, plus MJ.
"So, MJ," Peter starts the introduction, "These are the newer Avengers at the compound. Guys, this is MJ."
"Sup?" MJ tilted her head, "So you guys just openly tell your identities?"
"It wasn't a choice for either of us," Shuri said, "For different reasons, but we both didn't get to choose."
"We should get to class," Peter jerked his head towards some students whispering and staring, "By lunch, everyone's gonna know that there are superheroes in the school."
"Let's go," Loki said hastily.
The group headed to the next class.
