Slytherin Skittles
Evan, Barty, Regulus, Dorcas and Pandora were all very magically talented, in different ways.
Barty was fantastic with written essays and examinations, to many peoples surprise. He found it easier to focus on questions rather than practical situations where there was so much going on at once to be distracted by. In his earlier years, Barty would purposely skip his homework, trying to get his fathers attention. It was Evan who convinced him to do the best he could for himself, rather than sabotage himself to spite his father. He canonically was of the only people to get twelve OWLs, meaning that he took all of the electives.
Evan was best at ancient runes, potions and arithmancy, where the questions were straightforward and logical. He liked questions where there was a definite answer. He was a quiet student, who all the teachers adored, and was often excused punishment from missed homework or distracting others in class, much to Barty's irritation. Barty would try to get him in trouble by talking to him loudly, knocking over his books, or kicking him under the table, all to no avail. Evan wanted to be a healer.
Dorcas was best at charms, herbology and transfiguration. She was a talented duelist, and knew many obscure hexes and jinxes. She liked memorising different spells and learning them in her free time. She also loved plants, and her room at home was filled all sorts of flora, including several carnivorous plants. Dorcas was also a chaser on the Slytherin Quidditch team. She was incredibly competitive, and would spend hours training at a time, often convincing Regulus to join her, despite the fact that their roles were not at all codependent. Dorcas wanted her career to be exciting and something that involved travel.
Regulus loved potions, astronomy, transfiguration and ancient runes. He preferred practical tasks, where he could control the situation, rather than written questions, as he found that he often misinterpreted what they were asking him. He was very fond of transfiguration because Professor McGonagall was one of his favourite teachers. She never overlooked him, despite how quiet he was in class, but she also never expected more of him because of his family. He was not aware but she tried to make her class as comfortable as possible for him, having taught Sirius and all his cousins, she knew what his homelife was like, and wanted his schooling to be as enjoyable as it could be.
Pandora loved charms, care of magical creatures, herbology, and any examination that was practical. She was a brilliant potion maker, but hated the class because Slughorn played favourites. Care of magical creatures was her favourite class because she loved animals, and was particularly interested in how they used their natural defenses, such as venom or fire breathing against threats, and how she could immunise herself and others against these mechanisms. Pandora wanted to break the boundaries of how wizards and witches perceived magic.
