The spaceship that they had stowed away on was far from a palace.
But Loki had never felt freeer.
His babies were sound asleep in his arms.
Thor watched them with a peculiar look upon his face.
Loki knew that he had waited long enough. "What do you want to know?"
His voice was soft like a cloud wrapped around the sky.
"Everything," Thor begged. He kept his voice soft too.
Loki wasn't sure where to begin. "Hel was the first."
"Her father?" Thor's voice cracked.
Loki shivered. "I was only fifteen. I didn't understand what was happening. I didn't even realize I was pregnant until my stomach made it undeniable. After that, I wanted touch. I didn't know another way to feel. I knew what was happening that time, so I ran away."
"W-Why did you not tell me?" Thor asked.
"Father threatened me after Hela's birth. He forbade me to speak of it."
"You never obeyed Father," Thor said.
Loki shrugged. "Father found my den. He took Fenrir just like he took Hel."
Thor closed his eyes. "What did he do with them? Why would he do such a thing?"
"I don't know." Loki took a deep breath. "I suppose he locked them away under my very feet. I fell in love once..."
"Only once?" Thor asked.
"Only once," Loki whispered. "I ran away again. I transformed into a snake and built a den. After Jö was strong enough, I left him. I thought he would be safer without me, but when I returned to find him, he was gone."
"After the twins, I swore that I'd never go through that again. I thought my heart couldn't be broken any further."
"But then Sleipnir?" Thor said softly.
Loki didn't know when he had started crying, but he couldn't see through the storm falling around him.
"You don't have to tell me anymore," Thor whispered.
"Maybe, one day I'll tell you the rest." Loki tried to smile.
"I'd like that." Thor smiled back.
"What do we do when we get there?" Loki asked.
"I will go to my friends and ask for help," Thor said as if it were easy.
"They will not want to help me." Loki sighed.
"They will because you are my brother," Thor promised.
"My children do not look like Midgardian children." Loki worried.
His children had been through enough pain they did not deserve to be outcasts.
He knew the pain of being an outcast all too well.
"They have your seiðr," Thor said. "We can teach them how to glamour themselves."
Loki shook his head. "I do not want their lives to be an illusion."
