Chapter 14
June 5 2008
“So, you think you are ready for this, Mr Barnes?” Phil Coulson asked.
Bucky swallowed his insecurity and nodded. “Yes, Mr Coulson, I do. I don't think there's anyone better for this job than me.”
“That's the spirit.” Coulson said approvingly. “You are aware of the consequences?”
“Yes, I've read what the director sent to me.” Bucky confirmed.
Coulson smiled at him. “Awesome.” He pulled out a file and handed it to Bucky. “Fill that in, would you?”
Bucky did. It took about half an hour to fill everything out. They required a lot of information about him and his past. Once he was done, he handed the file to Coulson who gave it to another agent who would save all the information on Bucky in a computer.
Coulson turned to Bucky. “The director will be here in a few minutes. He'll tell you everything you need to know.”
Bucky raised his eyebrows at the agent. “I don't klnow everything yet? I thought you filled me in already.”
“I did.” Coulson smiled again. “I told you what was necessary to make you want to have the job, Mr Barnes.”

Steve tried not to cry his eyes out once he found out that his best friend was dead.
He hadn't been there when it happened, but he wished he had been.
Maybe he would have been able to save his friend.
Peggy was looking at him with concern. She didn't ask how he felt. She knew what loss and heartbreak felt like and she knew what Bucky meant to Steve.
She thought she understood just fine.
The funeral was held soon after.
Steve told a lot of hilarious stories about his and Bucky's time in kindergarten and school. He was joined by Peggy who had met them in Highschool.

Phillip Coulson found out about one of his agents being held hostage about an hour after it happened.
He got the call from Samuel Wilson, an unofficial agent of Shield.
He was kind of Steve's wingman and therefore knew about Shield, but he usually didn't join them on missions that were accomplished by the whole team of the captain.
Coulson immediately contacted the director and asked for instruction.
Director Fury looked at him with a frown. “You're saying one of our best agents was simply taken by Hydra?”
“Uh … well, yes. They seemed to had it planned out well – four days before they leave for another mission.”
Fury snorted. “And we just let them play us?”
“There wasn't really anything we could have done, sir.” Coulson admitted. “Nobody knew about this.”

Natasha was surprised when she found out who the mysterious new agent in Shield was.
She had known Steve for a few years now – they had befriended in High School and he had even named one of his and Peggy's kids after her. That had been five years ago.
They had grown apart a little after Natasha “died”. Grown apart was nicely said, as Steve believed her dead.
But now that he was part of Shield too, he was allowed to know about her real fate.
It turned out that they were a great team, they worked perfectly together and were one of Shield's preferred teams.
She didn't join on his regular missions with his teams, even though she sometimes helped them without actually joining them.
Steve's family had been shocked to find out that she was still alive.
Once, Natasha had asked Steve why his kids and wife were allowed to know that she wasn't dead, but Bucky was still dead to them, but Steve had never told her the reason.
