You get killed... walk it off.
PREVIOUSLY ON: Dawn of New Change
Taeyong and Pietro have teamed up, with Taeyong in charge of making sure that the civilians get out of the city or somewhere safe. He helps a family out of their car and get to safety when he eventually gets to Pietro who runs out of energy quickly. They both almost get shot at by another Iron Legion suit when it redirects to just Pietro and that's when Taeyong remembers the code he originally put in to make Ultron his 'best friend.'
Pietro and Taeyong try their best to help a bunch of kids out of a crumbling building. Taeyong sacrifices his suit and Pietro watches as Ultron takes away his city.
Wanda and Clint were working together to help get the last few stragglers to somewhere safer. Their only options were further into the cities centre and making sure that they stayed somewhere underground or try and see if they could get to the ground with the rest of the country. So far, their only options for flight came with Thor, who was too busy helping Captain America by the bridge.
The Hulk could technically grab a few people and help jump them down from Novi Grad to Sokovia, but with the city flyer higher and higher, but also faster, there was no telling if he could make the jump back up. Even then, there was a very small percentage of people that would allow the Hulk to help them, that small percentile being the literal Avengers themselves.
Wanda was on civilian duty, using her magic to create a forcefield of sorts to help shield herself and whoever she needed to save. Her blood was pumping through her veins, along with the manic energy of her magic as she held her shield upwards. Her eyes kept darting between the civilians head she tried to lower as they ran across the road to a small house, with others and then towards the legionnaires.
Clint was on Iron Legion duty, making use of his arrows to fire at each and every single one of them with precision. Even with his high level accuracy rating, he wasn't fast enough and there were too many. Unlike Clint's usual setting, which was perching up on a tall building and taking down multiples below, he was stuck on the ground. He had to make sure that Wanda got the civilians to safety and then make sure the Iron Legion didn't kill him at the same time.
Sometimes, when Clint was too slow, Wanda would use her powers to whip whichever legionnaire was coming towards her down. It was gruelling work and she was running on pure adrenaline, terrified of getting hit.
The civilian ran from her arms and Wanda screamed when something exploded behind her. She didn't have time to run towards safety when the car in front of her exploded and she scrambled backwards, crawling on her hands and knees trying to cover herself. Clint flipped off of the car he stood on, stabbing one of the legionnaires with his arrow and watching it explode from his peripheral before running over to where he heard Wanda's scream.
"Hey, you okay?" he said, signing as well.
Her eyes were wide with terror, gaunt as her features were, they expanded and she pointed to somewhere behind him. Clint turned around, looking upwards as five more Iron Legion suits started to gather. He spun around quickly, grabbing Wanda's arm and squeezing it as he dragged her to the nearest building, "go! Go! Go!" he shouted, ignoring her cries as she stumbled behind him.
He had to jump and tackle them both into a locked wooden window, falling down with a hard grunt. Wanda stayed down and Clint scrambled back upwards, looking through the window and ducking when a shot almost blasted his head off.
"How could I let this happen?"
Clint turned around to find Wanda muttering to herself. She crawled further into the darkened room. It looked like an abandoned pub, with wooden furniture and had definitely seen better days. She sat back against one of the booths, rubbing her arms up and down whilst staring at the ground. "Hey, hey, you okay?" he asked, hand on her shoulder.
"This is all our fault," her voice cracked, she was rocking back and forth and Clint groaned.
"Hey, hey!" he snapped his fingers in front of her face, lightly tapping her cheek. She blinked, peering up at him through her mess of hair. "Look at me, it's your fault, it's everyone's fault. Who cares?" he shrugged, plastering on a fake smile. "Are you up for this?"
Wanda blinked.
"Are you?" he asked again. "Look, I just need to know because- because the city is flying," he almost chuckled, unable to fathom what the battle had turned into. This was so not the plan. "Okay. Look, the city is flying, we're fighting an army of robots, and I have a bow and arrow," he stressed, finally feeling his head clear up a bit. He reached over and heightened his cochlear implants, letting the volume of the battle fill him up. "I have a bow and arrow okay? Literally none of this makes sense, kid-" More firepower started to shoot at them through the wall and Clint instinctively readied his arrow, shooting through the newly punctured hole until he heard an explosion.
"But I'm going back out there because it's my job. Okay? And I can't do my job and babysit. It doesn't matter what you did or what you were. If you go out there, you fight, and you fight to kill." Clint sighed, now looking at Wanda's somewhat calm state. "Stay in here, you're good. I'll send your brother to come find you. Pietro, get over here."
"Uh, give me a second," he said over the comms.
Wanda snorted, "fastest man in the world and he'll still be late."
Clint nodded, "good, that's... that's good. Look I'm going so if you step out that door, just know that, well, you're an Avenger."
"Um, she'll need an ID badge and some training," came Taeyong's snarky reply, "but yeah- this basically qualifies."
Clint ignored him and let Wanda slowly nod. He gave a resolute nod back, not wanting to say anything else and stood up with a grunt. "All right, good chat," he murmured more for himself. Taking out the rest of his arrows, all clustered into a grip that he could hold with his fist; he notched his bow, pulling backwards. "Yeah... the city is flying," Clint exhaled slowly, turned to give Wanda another nod and then stepped outside.
Clint zeroed in on the five Iron Legion suits and immediately fired, hitting them all and letting his arrows explode all around him. He worked quickly, notching more of his arrows and shooting from a distance. He ran away from the abandoned pub, bringing all the legionnaires towards him and away from Wanda when more started to crawl and fly over to him. Clint fired another explosive arrow, letting the Iron Legion grab it mid air, only for it to blow up in its face. He ducked behind a car and gave a grunt.
"Could use some help over-"
Wanda stepped out from the pub, her eyes glowing red and hands besides her with spiralling red magic produced at her fingertips. Without looking, she stuck out her right arm, grabbing the nearest Iron Legion and ripping them into two, using its body to smash into the next one. Her powers curled and flicked against her wrist, which were slowly shaking before she got another and aimed most of her magic there.
The cosmic energy of her magic made it explode, she sent a forcefield outwards, getting two more until all that was standing were a few. Clint got up, fired two arrows and watched the Legionnaire fall before Wanda took the last of them down. She panted where she stood, turning to Clint and giving him a shaky thumbs up.
"This good?"
"Great," he said, nodding appreciatively.
"Clint?" Steve grunted over the comms.
"We're all good here," he said.
"We're not so hot. Ultron took Thor outta the playing field. Me and Nat could use some help."
"All right, coming to you," Clint said, turning back to Wanda.

"Look, this is going to work," Taeyong said, standing in front of Pietro and forcing the boys' hand on the back of his neck. "I've read a hundred Flash comics, this is how he moves people!" Pietro squeezed the back of Taeyong's neck, making him convulse and step away subconsciously. Taeyong spun around and whacked Pietro's arm, glaring at him. "Don't squeeze you idiot, that's my spine you're messing with!"
"What am I supposed to do? I need grip!" Pietro hissed. "If you let me just pick you up-"
"I am not being carried bridal style-"
"You wanna walk it?"
Taeyong groaned, "we wouldn't have this problem if I had my suit!"
Pietro scoffed, "you're the one that left it."
"The building was coming down!"
"And? How is that my fault?"
Taeyong opened his mouth ready for another retort when Clint called them both out. "Either you help us, or shut up!" Taeyong and Pietro both snapped their mouths shut, turning away from each other. Taeyong felt Pietro's hand cup the back of his neck and he tensed.
"Don't try to vomit," Pietro warned.
"Wha-"
Taeyong did not vomit. Instead, he fell to the ground, for the third time that day and gave a grunt as he rolled over and found Clint's telltale boots. He looked up, squinting through the sunlight and gave Clint a wobbly smile, "'Sup?"
Clint snorted, hands coming down and lifting Taeyong up onto his feet. The younger boy swayed slightly and he shook his head, looking around at where Pietro was. The Twins were together, Pietro carrying his sister in that bridal style Taeyong refused to be put in. "Keep up, old man," Pietro smirked, before giving a grunt in Taeyong's direction and speeding off.
Clint notched his bow and pointed it in their direction, "Nobody would know," he muttered.
Taeyong snorted, "Hawkeye!"
"Nobody," he sighed, already lowering his bow and arrow. "'The last I saw him, an Ultron was sitting on him. Yeah, he'll be missed, the little bastard. I miss him already,'" he said sarcastically. Taeyong chuckled, slapping Clint on the arm and already starting to jog in that direction.

Whilst the Avengers were still fighting on the front lines, trying to take down a Legionnaire, suit after suit, Tony was in charge of trying to figure out how to put the city back down on the ground. He was still running the initial scans over the vibranium core that Ultron made and the blaring red warnings coming from all different directions in his own suit was not helping.
FRIDAY came back with not so promising news, "The anti-gravs are rigged to flip." Tony silently cursed. "Touch them, they'll go full reverse thrust. The city's not coming down slow." Which basically meant that everyone in that city, including his own son, would die. Not to mention the people down below who were close enough wouldn't be able to survive the crash's intensity either.
"Spire is vibranium," Tony started, trying to bring up different variables and hypotheses. "If I get Thor to hit it...?"
"It will crack. That's not enough," FRIDAY replied. "The impact would still be devastating."
Tony flew until he got just under the city, where the main part of the vibranium core was. It was pulsing a giant blue wave of energy, almost similar to the electric blue of Loki and Clint's eyes, all those years ago. Tony did his best to calm his nerves, working under pressure was basically his forte. "Maybe if we can cap the other end? Keep the atomic action doubling back."
"That could vaporise the city and everyone on it," FRIDAY said.
Tony groaned, "and with no way off the city..."
He started to pull up different aerial aids. The tricky thing about America when it came to helping other countries was that they typically didn't. In fact, the only reason that Rhodey couldn't join in on the fun was because he was technically part of the 'US Government' when he signed himself over to the military. "FRI, start contacting anyone that can help. People out of our usual raider. Send a message to the people of Sokovia to get out of their country fast."
"I'm guessing, we don't have enough time to call the UN at all, Sir?"
Tony sighed, "in a perfect world..."
Steve's voice came through on the comms and he seemed to be panting, but he gave somewhat helpful news. "The next wave is gonna hit any minute." At least they had taken out the imminent legionnaires. Which meant that for a short period of time, Taeyong would be safe. "What do you got, Stark?"
Tony pursed his slips. "Huh? Nothing great," he admitted. "Maybe a way to blow up the city. That'll keep it from impacting the surface, if you guys can get clear."
"I asked for a solution, not an escape plan."
"Yeah well, impact radius is getting bigger every second. We're gonna have to make a choice."
Taeyong, who was beside Pietro, looked up at the sky, squinting to see if he could find his dad. He didn't, but he jogged over to where Steve and Natasha were standing, just at the city's edge. Pietro walked along with him, arm around his sister and Clint making his way over. They all stood just against a broken road, taking their time to calm down and let some adrenaline leave their systems.
Natasha spied on Taeyong, removing one of her guns and handing it over to the younger. Taeyong took it with a wince, looking down at the gun and trying to remember all his training. He felt practically naked without his suit.
"Cap," Natasha looked around the fog of dust that swept over the city, she gave Steve a tired smile. "These people are going nowhere. If Stark finds a way to blow this rock..."
"Not till everyone's safe," Steve gritted out, a hardened look on his face. His eyes swept over the rubble and the last few civilians who had managed to struggle their way to safer buildings.
Clint furrowed his brows, "everyone up here versus everyone down there? There's no maths there."
"I'm not leaving this rock with one civilian on it."
Natasha was quiet, "I didn't say we should leave..." Steve chanced a glance at her, she was already nodding softly. "There's worse ways to go." They both stared out at the edge of the city, so far up in the sky they could see the clouds covering the rest of the country. "Where else am I gonna get a view like this?"
Steve felt his spine straighten, he had seen a view like that. Just before he went under. He closed his eyes. It's not gonna be a safe landing. I'm gonna try and force it down- There's not enough time! This thing's moving too fast and it's heading for New York... I gotta put her in the water.
Peggy... this is my choice. Peggy. I'm gonna need a rain check on that dance.
"Captain?" Natasha called, hand on his shoulder.
Steve flinched, blinking harshly. "Huh?"
"You alright? You were gone for a second there."
"Yeah- yeah," he breathed in deeply, rolling his shoulders back. Natasha let go of him and instead of questioning him further like he expected, she held her ground and let him come back fully. Steve appreciated that, appreciated her friendship. "Admiring the view..."
"Glad you like the view, Rogers," another voice said through their comms. Steve and Natasha both stared at each other, recognising that voice instantly. "It's about to get better," Fury said and when they turned back to look at the cloud lines, they could see the hovering form of the helicarrier, starting to float upwards towards the city's edge.
"Nice right? Pulled her out of mothballs with a couple of old friends."
Steve scoffed at Fury's prideful tone.
"She's dusty," he remarked, "but she'll do."
"Fury, you son of a bitch," Steve chuckled.
"Ooh! You kiss your mother with that mouth?"
"Yeah," Taeyong grinned widely, "Language." Steve reached over and ruffled the boy's hair.
They got to hear more voices from inside the helicarrier, a familiar Maria Hill. "Altitude is 18,000 and climbing."
"Lifeboats secure to deploy. Disengage in three, two... take 'em out."
Steve and the rest of the Avengers all gathered around, shielding themselves from the wind picking up on the lifeboats that started to fly out from the helicarrier.
"This is S.H.I.E.L.D.?" Pietro asked, eyes practically glittering as he watched them all deploy on the side of the city.
Steve nodded, "this is what S.H.I.E.L.D. is supposed to be."
He chuckled, "this is not so bad." Taeyong felt smug and when he looked over at Wanda, she gave him a tentative smile to which, he returned.
"Captain," he asked, a lot more vigour in his words. "Orders?"
"Let's load 'em up!" Steve called, spinning around and starting off with a running pace to the civilians that had hidden away. Taeyong started to run out with him and the rest of the Avengers followed suit. The Legionnaires that were still around, stopped focusing their attention on the Avengers and this time, set their target on the helicarrier. Maria hill, from within, turned to Fury. "Show 'em what we got." She smirked and started to bark out orders. Multiple S.H.I.E.L.D. agents that were new or started to rebuild themselves from the old S.H.I.E.L.D. took to her command easily.
"Now this is gonna be a good story," a voice chuckled, flying forward and starting to shoot repulsors right at the Iron Legion suits. Taeyong whipped his head around, almost bumping into Clint as he narrowed his eyes at the sky.
"What's up?" Clint stopped, grabbing Taeyong's arm.
"Uncle Rhodey?!"
"I'm here kiddo. We've got a suit for you, so be prepared."
Taeyong gripped, getting out of Clint's hold and running back towards the helicarrier. His eyes glinted when he spotted one of his suits, smaller and more lithe, fly over to him. Taeyong felt a bubble of laughter rise in his chest and he let it out. Laughing freely as he dived off the city and fell through the air. His arms and legs were outstretched and he couldn't have been falling freely for even a full minute before his body was enclosed in his suit.
Taeyong whooped and cheered, giggling as he flew back in the air and started to fire at the closest Iron Legion suit. He spotted Rhodey quickly and they were both quickly joined by Tony, who helped shoot another Legionnaire from behind.
"Nice to see you finally show up," Tony called.
Rhodey scoffed, "you think I can't hold my own?"
Taeyong rolled his eyes.
"We get through this," Tony teased, "I'll hold your own."
"You had to make it weird," Rhodey said.
"Ladies, ladies," Taeyong called, extending his arm and pushing them both away. "Get to work would'ya? We still have a whole city to save." He didn't deem them with the time to respond, before he tucked and rolled towards the city, deciding to help out with the civilians.
"I got about fifty to a hundred more coming in after this group," Steve directed to the nearest S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. He started to point over to the city square, "we're gonna need medicals and an evac team further into the city."
Taeyong swooped downwards, hovering just above the other citizens and letting his helmet slide off. He stayed just above most of the civilians, flying on his back to make sure the Iron Legion scanned his face and stayed away, whilst also shooting at them, when they got to close.
"Here we go," Clint started to direct everyone into the nearest lifeboat. "Here we go. Come on."
"Hey," Taeyong called, voice rising over the sounds of cries and air lifts, "anyone seen Thor or Vision recently?"
"Nice of you to notice our absence," came Thor's late reply. "Stark, have you found a way to destroy this thing yet?"
"I got it!" Tony said, letting out a grunt. "Create a heat seal. I could- urgh! Ow! I could supercharge the spire from below."
Taeyong arched his brow, "FRIDAY?"
"Running numbers," she replied. "A heat seal could work with enough power."
"Okay, Thor we've got a plan."
"We're running out of time!" the God replied. "They're coming to the core!"
Taeyong whipped his head upwards, already putting his helmet back on and making sure people started to board on quicker. "Dad?"
"Rhodey get the rest of the people on board that carrier. Taeyong? Wanna spin around and see if that bff code works on multiples?"
Taeyong grinned, "thought you'd never ask." He swooped downwards to where Clint stood, and picked up. Together they flew to the church and Taeyong dropped him off, watching the spy tuck and roll as he landed on the ground. Taeyong turned around and flew back to get Natasha when he saw the Hulk grumble and roar.
"Hulk!" Taeyong grinned, mask sliding off. "You get Cap? I get Widow?" The Hulk simply grunted in Taeyong's direction but Steve jumped on his back and he hopped away. Taeyong wrapped his arms around Natasha's waist and lifted her up, flying over to the church.
"So what's the drill?" Natasha asked, once Taeyong put her down.
"That's the drill," Tony pointed towards the large mechanical device stuck at the centre of the church's floor. Taeyong titled his head, finally seeing the vibranium core in real life instead of scans. "If Ultron gets a hand on the core, we lose."
Vision stood next to Taeyong and gave him a grim nod. Taeyong lifted up his mask and tried for a smile but worried that it came out looking more like a grimace. He turned towards the entrance of the church and took Vision's hand, and both of them flew over with the rest of the Avengers.
"Is this the best you can do?!" Thor roared, holding his hammer out threateningly towards Ultron, who hovered just outside of the church.
Ultron brought a hand up, twitching his fingers and before any of them knew it, the Legionnaires, but also, newer models of the Iron Legion suits started to run and crawl, flying as well, until Ultron was standing with an army behind him. Taeyong's jaw dropped.
Steve exhaled heavily, shoulders dropping, "You had to ask."
"This," Ultron titled his head, "is the best I can do. This is exactly what I wanted. All of you against all of me. How could you possibly hope to stop me?"
Taeyong looked around at the group, his dad stepped towards him. "Well, like the old man said... or the young one- the age thing and nap is throwing us all off. But... together."
NEXT TIME ON: Dawn of New Change
"Okay, okay." Tony's voice was shaky and he kept breathing heavily. "Okay, buddy. I'm gonna need you to tell me where you are okay? Can you do that for me?"
Taeyong frowned, "tracker?"
