Self-sacrificing Vs. Self-preservation

PREVIOUSLY ON: Dawn of New Change

Wanda and Clint work together to help fight the legionnaires whilst also trying to save the civilians from getting hurt. Wanda has a panic, before Clint delivers his speech about ultimately, what it means to be an Avenger. Tony tries his best to figure out a way to stop Ultron's plan without blowing up the city, but everything he thinks of keeps coming up with imminent death. The Avengers are ready to call it quits when Fury arrives and their next mission? Project: Evacuate The City And Get Everyone Off The Floating Rock. is a go!

They come together, to the Novi Grad Church, to stop Ultron once and for all.

"This," Ultron titled his head, "is the best I can do. This is exactly what I wanted. All of you against all of me. How could you possibly hope to stop me?"

Taeyong looked around at the group, his dad stepped towards him. "Well, like the old man said... or the young one- the age thing and nap is throwing us all off. But... together."

Taeyong grinned, letting his helmet come off completely and he turned to face the rest of the army. Hulk let out a booming roar and with that they each started to fight. Taeyong swapped places with Vision, letting the Iron Legion come and try to attack him. He used the moments where they faltered in their coding to continue shooting at them. But, with the knowledge that the Best Friend Protocol was giving him a slight advantage, he maneuvered his way through the Avengers.

He flew in front of Captain America, bouncing against his shield and shooting at the Legionnaire with his repulsors, before rolling onto the ground by the Black Widow's feet. He stood up, gave a smirk at the Iron Legion suit that stopped its shooting. He could feel Natasha press her arms against his head and let her shoot them down before flying off and kicking down the next set of Legionnaires for Clint to shoot more easily.

Wanda was still taking down an Iron Legion suit one by one, so Taeyong helped kick them into a line and watched as she shot her magic through three at the same time. He flew backwards and grabbed one of the Iron Legion by the foot, swinging it down onto Thor, who used Mjolnir like a bat and swung upwards, ripping the suit into two. Taeyong fired one coming at Vision from behind and let his dad grab him by the waist, being pulled in one direction.

Taeyong waved at one of the Iron Legion suits, who stopped to wave back when Tony shot it in its face plate. "Well damn," he muttered, flying out of his dad's grip and quickly dragging one of the Legionnaires away from the central vibranium machine, the Hulk smashed his fist into its chest, scattering pieces of metal everywhere.

Suddenly Taeyong was pushed to the side and he fell backward, looking up at Pietro's looming figure who had his back to him. When Taeyong got up, he could see Ultron had made his way into the church, but got beamed out of it by Vision. "He can do that?" Taeyong panted.

"Skittles," Pietro muttered.

Taeyong tapped on his thigh, letting the panel pop out to reveal, "huh... M&Ms?" Pietro nodded quickly, already taking out the food and scoffing it up. Taeyong closed his suit panel and flew out of the church where Thor and his dad had followed Vision. Taeyong, readying his repulsor rays, also held out his hands and started to beam it at Ultron. Thor's hammer produced lighting and with all four of them against Ultron, he thought they were invincible. I have never felt more powerful, he thought as they lowered their beams and watched as Ultron lay on the ground, trying to pick himself back up again.

His face plate was mangled and melting from the heat and they must have tampered with some of his cogs on the inside because when he eventually lifted himself to a standing position, his entire upper body was leaning heavily to the left.

"You know," Ultron said. "With the benefit of hindsight..." They didn't even get to hear him finish when the Hulk came out of nowhere and punched him hard enough he flew backwards, probably on the other side of the city. Taeyong nodded slowly, an appreciative frown on his face. When the Hulk turned to the other Legionnaires, they started to run away. Powering their flight thrusters as they got to the edge of the city, flying off.

"They're trying to leave the city," Thor said.

"We can't let them, not even one. Rhodey?" Tony called.

"I'm on itOkay, yeah! War Machine coming at you!"

Taeyong snorted, taking off his gauntlet and running his hand through his hair as he watched his godfather in the air. Vision flew in that direction, deciding to help and Taeyong actually cackled when Rhodey remained silent on the comms for a second before, "um... okay what?"

"Team," Steve called. Taeyong turned back, jogging over to the church and standing with the rest of the Avengers. "We gotta move out. Even I can tell the air is getting thin," he motioned towards Natasha and Clint, "you guys get to the boats. Taeyong and I can sweep for stragglers," Taeyong nodded, already flying.

"Be right behind you," the younger said, before taking off.

"What about the core?" Natasha asked.

"I'll protect it," Wanda said. "It is my job."

Taeyong scanned most of the surrounding areas, "FRIDAY do a quick scan would you?" he asked, barely getting the last of the comms.

"Come back for me when everyone else is off. Not before."

There was some grunting sound that Taeyong frowned at.

"You understand?"

"You know, I'm twelve minutes older than you."

"Go."

Taeyong grinned, firing at a stray Iron Legion suit that was barely moving, but couldn't take any chances with. He sighed, looking around the different buildings and around the broken stores. "Is he always like that?"

"Unfortunately," Wanda replied.

Taeyong nodded, "I'm glad I'm an only child."

"You sure about that?" Tony teased.

Taeyong rolled his eyes, "I cannot keep having this conversation with you dad. It never gets funnier." FRIDAY gave him confirmation that everything was clear and Taeyong started to make his way back to the boats. "Clear over here Cap."

"Okay, make your way over here. Time to give the Hulk a lullaby."

Taeyong grinned, already charging up his flight boosters and blasting his way through the desolate cityscape. Taeyong weaved in and out of broken buildings until he got to where the Hulk was, a couple yards away from the lifeboats. The citizens seemed uneasy in the Hulk's presence and vice versa. Taeyong started to loosen the hold his suit had on him, until he basically dropped out of it completely.

The suit stood up and stayed just behind him, waiting for his silent command, but Taeyong simply brushed it off. He made eye contact with the Hulk and waved a little, ignoring the Avenger's grunts and heavy exhales. The Hulk seemed to always be in a pissy mood, but Taeyong simply plastered on a soft smile, walking up to him slowly.

"Hulk?" he asked, putting a hand out and forward. "Hey man, it's been a while," he winced slightly remembering the last time the Hulk had come to surface. Under the influence of Wanda's magic Taeyong felt himself gulp, remembering the way he completely went ballistic, not like the Hulk he was used to.

"You good?" he asked, deciding to stand a little straighter and braved forward. He rested a hand on the Hulk's arm and watched him still. The Hulk looked down at Taeyong's smaller hands and sat down with a thud. Taeyong grinned a little wider, "you did really good. By the way, didn't get to say this before, but that punch you managed to get at Ultron? Holy shit- that was amazing!" he gushed.

The Hulk gave a pleased sort of grunt, Taeyong was practically well-versed in translating the Hulk's noises. The corner of his lips pulled upwards and Taeyong guessed that was as good as he was gonna get in terms of a smile. "You know, we should probably head back to Helicarrier. I'd say to take one of the lifeboats, but together, we probably weigh too much." Taeyong gave a cheeky grin when Hulk tilted his head, "nah. You don't have to change if you don't want to. The S.H.I.E.L.D. agents know better than to try and hurt you. We can chill on deck if you want? No problem?" he turned his hand over, letting his palm face upwards.

The Hulk looked back down at it, slowly lifting his own hand to place over Taeyong's when heavy gunfire started to reign down on the both of them. Taeyong yelled, hands covering his ears and ducking when the Hulk roared and covered him. FRIDAY was getting the suit to him, when Taeyong's body was picked up and that familiar swooping sensation filled his tummy. He groaned, clutching the Hulk as he jumped high in the air.

Taeyong looked down at the slowly disappearing city of Novi Grad. His eyes widened when he managed to make out Ultron in their Quinjet. "FRIDAY, help the people," he said, before the Hulk roared again and Taeyong flinched. He blinked when they eventually stopped and Taeyong was flung out of the Hulk's hold, falling onto solid ground. He squinted his eyes, looking upwards at the Hulk, who gave him a grunt before turning away.

Taeyong managed to lift himself into a standing position, feeling a slight wobble as he took in his surroundings. The Hulk had leapt over Novi Grad and set him on the helicarrier, a bunch of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents swarmed around him. "What- what-" Taeyong whispered, shaking his head and pushing them away.

"JESUS CHRIST!"

"What the fuck-"

"Did you-"

"I DON'T KNOW?!"

"Taeyong?"

"Uh..." Taeyong walked over to the edge of the helicarrier, waving away the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and looking back at Novi Grad. "Yeah?"

"What- where are you?"

Taeyong pouted, "I'm on the helicarrier. Clint, where are you?"

"Pietro..."

"I'm wearing your suit, kid."

"What?!" Taeyong's eyes widened and then he saw it. Just in the distance, between the lifeboat still hovering a couple inches away from the city and then the helicarrier which was now higher than the city. A blur of something green and grey started to fly over, Taeyong took a couple steps back, a smug grin stretched out on his face. His suit flew over to him and practically spat out Pietro, who tripped and fell to the ground.

Taeyong walked over, standing just in front of Pietro, who groaned and slowly blinked, staring upwards at the sky. "That- I didn't know how to fly that."

"You're lucky FRIDAY was there then. Don't worry, it comes easier when you watch Tinkerbell."

"Tinkerbell?" Pietro asked.

Taeyong cackled, turned around to leave him there. "FRIDAY?"

"Yes, sir?"

"Give me my suit," he said, jumping over the edge of the helicarrier. Taeyong giggled, hearing the concerned shouts and screams from the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and Pietro, but he was wrapped up in his suit with ease. The familiarity was not lost on him and he flew back to the lifeboat, where a very tired Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye lay.

Steve simply gave him a shaking salute, eyes slowly drooping to a close. Taeyong scoffed, wanting to laugh when he heard his dad and FRIDAY discuss plans for the Vibranium core.

"Boss, power levels are way below..."

"Reroute everything," came his dads voice, "We got one shot at this."

Taeyong nodded, even when no one could see it. He flew outwards and under the city, spotting his dad easily. He started to fly over, when FRIDAY decided to rat him out. "Seriously FRIDAY? What is it with UI's and disloyalty?"

"Taeyong, get out of here!"

"But dad-"

"NO! GET OUT OF HERE, YOU'RE NOT HELPING!"

Taeyong scoffed, rolling his eyes and applying his flight boosters. "Well tough shit dad, we made this mess together. Besides, my suit had more power than yours anyway." He ducked behind a piece of piping that stuck out and let FRIDAY put all his power on his suits core. "Thor, you ready?"

"Getting there. Witch?"

"Ultron's here, give me-"

Taeyong got to where his dad was and helped him cut away at the metal. Tony shoved him aside, and Taeyong just shoved him back. "I'm not kidding, Taeyong, get out of here."

"Neither am I!" Taeyong hit him with his repulsor and crawled into the space Tony had made. Tony groaned and before either of them could argue again, the entire city fell. Taeyong floated upwards, hitting into the vibranium core and quickly gaining his footing. Tony scrambled through the hole they made and grabbed Taeyong's arm. There was shoutings from Wanda and Thor.

"My sister!" Pietro cried.

"I will get her," Vision said.

"Starks?"

"On my mark," Tony ordered. His chest's arc reactor blew up, beaming into the vibranium core and Taeyong took that as his que, letting his suits power drain as they helped over exert the power of Ultron's vibranium core. Taeyong grunted, taking his dad's hand. "NOW!"

The entire city exploded above them. Taeyong closed his eyes, feeling relief even as Tony curled his body around the younger. He felt his head fall backwards and his dad clutched him tightly.

"Taeyong? Taeyong?!"

"Yeah?" the younger whispered, slowly looking upwards as pieces of the city, buildings and vehicles, the giant vibranium core which was the only thing that managed to stay intact, descended onto the Earth. Taeyong brought his arms up, feeling his entire body drain of energy but he wrapped his arms around his dad's shoulders and let Tony try and fly them both out of the fray.

They must have been above water, Taeyong thought as something his them and he slipped from his dad's grip falling backwards. Taeyong groaned, feeling heavy pieces of debris start to crush against his suits' body, sending him deeper and deeper into the water. The suit, being one of their latest designs, didn't allow for water to seep into it. Tony had imputed this design ever since Mandarin attack all those years ago.

Taeyong sunk further into the water, sluggishly blinking as he tried to looked around. But the water was getting murky with everything falling into it and his hands came around a large metal cylinder of some sort that was dragging him down further. "Taeyong? Taeyong can you hear me buddy?"

The comms were still on but Taeyong felt so weak. Where had all his energy gone? He nodded, "hear you dad."

"Okay, okay." Tony's voice was shaky and he kept breathing heavily. "Okay, buddy. I'm gonna need you to tell me where you are okay? Can you do that for me?"

Taeyong frowned, "tracker?"

"You must have bumped into your stealth mode. Can you take it off? I can't- oh buddy I can't see you. I don't know where you are."

"Water... I'm under water. Under a metal thing... pipe, or container? I don't know."

"Boss, he's dissociating."

"Okay, okay. Avengers!" Tony's voice was hard and commanding. "Rescue mission. Taeyong's somewhere underwater."

Taeyong didn't get to hear the rest because it was all starting to sound muffled. The murky water was still a dull grey and brown colour and even his sense of touch felt weird. Almost as if he were out of his body, not really experiencing anything. The last thing Taeyong remembered, was a light shining from above and then everything going dark.

NEXT TIME ON: Dawn of New Change

"No, I get it. I mean, at least you have a choice right now. My old man shipped me off, but you're willingly leaving-"

Taeyong frowned, "don't be like that-"

"What do you want from me?"
