Be careful what you wish for
He remembered the last time he saw her. She was older, a young adult in appearance. But she still held the childish gleam in her eyes and the far too high spirit. The words she said were still stuck in his mind.
You know the one thing I’ve realized as a human, Druig? Time runs pretty damn fast.
He scoffed at the memory. If she had known back then that those were the last words she would have spoken to him, would she have said something else?
He'd spent enough time around humans to know how loud they were. Even if they didn't say anything, their minds were never quiet. Never-ending stream of thoughts. There was always something on their minds. It was infuriating.
But he realized that the constant chatter was better than silence.
The dead don’t think. And Sprite was dead.
Her mind was empty. Not a single thought lingered. It was quiet. Too quiet. Unnatural. He despised it. The dead were quiet, and Sprite wasn’t supposed to be. It was never something that fit her. The little rascal couldn’t stay still even if she wanted to. But she was.
Still and quiet.
And she’d stay that way. All because she chose to be human. Her wish from the very beginning. She got what she wanted, and he got to lose another member of his family.
He shifted the weight on his arm higher. His fingers curled around the light green material of her clothes. If he tried hard enough, maybe he wouldn’t notice the rigidness of her body.
